You do have a point, but I fucking LOVED all those themes as a kid and I still for pure nostalgia. Furthermore the simple and descriptive theme songs were really suitable for wrestling and for getting the gimmick across to the kids watching it. This is not an attempt to approach mainstream media. This is a CD for wrestling fans, mostly kids.
youre a faggot queer...i ordered this cd from grand theft record when it first came out5 and have it in mint condition after playing it and letting my other wrestling marks listen to it, we cherish this prized possesion in wrestling history, yet you think youre funny, youre a fucking dork dude....go get laid
Johnny Be Bad's Theme was a spoof of Chuck Berry's Johnny be Good, I wouldn't expect you to know that since Chuck Berry and the song is before 2000. Both are good songs, listen to your new aged shit and talk shit about something you know about otherwise keep your comments to yourself.
WOW, your a fucking idiot!!!!!!! Free Bird isn't too long, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Fabulous Freebird's spoof of the song are both great songs, if you couldn't figure this out the Fabulous Freebirds and the writer of the song is showing respect to Skynyrd,if your listen to the song, it even mentions the band. In cause you don't notice either that Micheal Hayes and Jimmy Jam wore huge Skynrd fans, thus putting "Freebird in the name of the tag team.
Also incase you have forgotten the target group they were selling this to were young kids who make up the vast majority of wrestling fans. WCW back then was about hero's vs villans. Finally I detect a built in hate for everything southern. Why don't you grow up.
You're hating on some unesserry things like Dude Love's theme and the Clash of the Champions style ramp and Johnny B. Badd! Plus you didn't mention Johnny Be Good! Plus the Steinerizer IS a move! Good review though <=3
This is absolutely hilarious. What a great review, great commentary. I love this! I just watched Superbrawl II on WWE Classics on Demand which is in the hay day of WCW Slam Jam. HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH, Well Done.
I know it's not her, but the Sting theme sounds like Lillian Garcia. The Dustin Rhodes theme song sounds like an ad for a Ford F-150 or a Dodge Ram. The Ricky Steamboat song sounds like something you'd hear at a dentist office waiting room. Barry Windham's sounds like Molly Hatchet's "Flirtin' With Disaster." The rest of the album...actually the whole thing...is just pure utter crap.
All man this review had my ass dying laughing. The footage you had with Sting fighting against Steve Austin with hair & before he was known as Stone Cold is wild. As usual great job.
I actually happen to like this cd, for the most part. I'll admit, however, that Steamboat's theme is the biggest sappiest pile of bile I've ever heard in professional wrestling. But, I do like, the other songs, yet I agree with the comments about Rick Rude's theme, it does get repeditive.
You're right. The reason WCW hired Jimmy Papa in the first place was to write themes to replace the "real-life" songs the stars were using at the time. The Steiners used "Welcome to the Jungle" for sometime. The ECW used actual songs till they were taken over by the WWE. The replacement theme for Tommy Dreamer comes to mind where Johnston wrote a song that SOUNDED like "Man in the Box" but was different enough to avoid copyright issues.
I hope he ends up doing the more recent albums, like WWF music volume 4, which I have. I have a feeling he would actually enjoy most of the songs on there, because they are actually pretty good.
Sting is not an icon because he is not known outside the business.
If you ask a nonfan who Sting was, none of them would say "the wrestler of the singer?" But, if you ask the nonfan who Hulk Hogan was, they would be able to tell you.
When people call Sting and Icon, they mean he is a wrestling Icon. It's what I say when I call him Icon. I might not know ever football or basketball player because I don't watch those sports but that doesn't mean none of those guys are basketball or football icons. I dont think you have to be Barack Obama,The Pope, or Elvis to be an icon.
However, icons in sports are known outside the audience. Everybody, including people who do not follow wrestling, knows who Hulk Hogan is. Same with Muhammed Ali (Boxing), Pete Rose (Baseball) and Bobby Orr (Hockey).
Sting is one of the best known to the fanbase, Outside the fanbase, mostly because of his name, people will think you are talking about the singer.
Hogan is known outside the biz, while Sting is not. He is an icon to the fanbase, but outside the fanbase he is not well known.
Hogan was in one of the largest movies of all time (Rocky) before WWE gave him the mega push. Thats what put Hogan on the map and the reason he got the push in WWE. It would be like if Leo Decaprio showed up in WWE after titanic, had no talent and then got called an icon years later. And now the pre Rocky Hogan was not going to be the megastar he became. If Stin had played that role in Rocky and then gone in Hogans place. He would be the icon. Even you or I would be. Sting is an Icon! :)
Like albums from bands that are on your "Bands I Actually Like" list. You could review albums from the latest indie groups or older rap groups. Anything that can be taken semi seriously. Even if you don't like it.
Actually, TheCommentsGuys, they promoted him as a family man. His wife and son, who was very young at the time (they nicknamed the kid "The Little Dragon"), sometimes came to the ring with him.
Thanks for the info. I didn't not become a fan until a year ago. I pretty much now alot of old school WWF show but I don't exactly know to much about WCW so thanks for correcting me.
Agreed. For having not been a WCW fan till after Hogan jumped shit (ya know, the shit Hogan/Savage era), I knew Hayes more as Don Hendrix as a Freebird. I really missed the WCW glory days
i pay no mind to the haters of the original wrestling organization's style. For those of who really have followed wrestling, lets say since circa '96, know that these albums are gems no matter if they are corny or not. I like what you're doing mues.

If you knew the gimmicks of the wrestlers at the time, you would see that the songs were perfect for each.
Barry Windham used an instrumental of a cover mentioned in the video, it was sampled in the song.
Rick Rude's, Johnny B Badd and the others worked for each gimmick real well.
Cactus Jack's references his "finger guns" where he would "shoot" by saying "bang bang."
I'd recommend this album for any longtime fan.
TheManiacOnWheelsUSA 2 years ago
