Una de las mejores sopranos de su generación, es una pena que sea relativamente desconocida para el gran público de la ópera, una gran cantante, descance en paz.
I've seen a lot of Fiordiligis but regretfully, I did not see Margaret Price's -- but for my money, she sings this aria like no other singer in this role.
A year or two later in Chicago I saw Ms. Price in COSI. Her 'Come scoglio' stopped the show cold - the first real ovation I'd ever heard live in the house. After that I was hooked on Margaret Price. As a chorister got to sing with her many times. A wonderful Bach B Minor Mass @ CSO, a Beethoven Ninth, and OTELLO @ Lyric Opera in 1985 with Domingo and Milnes. Great singing from everyone but especially her. A great artist that will be missed. May she Rest in Peace.
This is "Come scoglio" as we rarely hear it done, just perfect from top to bottom, with all the fiendish triplets in place, and with defiant fire! Sorry to hear about the singer's untimely death.
R.I.P., beloved Margaret ! You was allways my voice for Mahler and Schumann, and a wonderful operasinger. Thank you for all the beautiful hours, God bless you !
I was lucky enough to hear Price's Desdemona in Chicago 25 years ago. Her large, ringing and lovely soprano poured forth freely, easily filling the theater. May she rest in peace:) --
How sad - she died so young! She was a really wonderful singer - spanning many genres of vocal music. She had a glorious spinto voice. And here she sings Mozart with gusto! This is a killer aria.
RIP Margaret. You had the loveliest soprano voice of our generation. It was always a thrill to hear you especially to sing with you in the chorus of the Verdi Requiem in the late sixties. Thank you.
Thank you, Onegin65, for honoring this great singer. I was blessed to see her in the first opera I ever attended, a mid-70s Chicago Nozze where I thought her Dove Sono was the most beautiful singing I had ever heard. She will be much missed.

Eccellente voce!

Thanks for this glorious present. My first Fiordiligi at the Palais Garnier. Could you post "Per pietà", too ? I'd be glad.

@Glenmed Why did she die so young? I asked on several videos and nobody seems to know. Did you ever see her perform live?

@minnie888444 She died of heart failure at her home in Wales. You might want to check out her wikipedia article.

her recording of Schubert's Shepherd on the Rock is, IMHO, without peer and she was a wonderful Desdemona.. RIP.

I heard her in Wales in the late 60s and early 70s and at Covent Garden as Desdemona in 1981 with Domingo as Otello.
One of the great lyric sopranos of the 20th century.
