@Gtrplayer77 1- He does smile but it doesnt show coz of the poor video quality. 2- he did covers harder than what yngwie plays, and yet he was smiling (see symphony x medley & others). 3- smiling or not depends on how u feel about the song, & malmsteen's production has a lot of dramatic texture in it, so i wont blame him for not smiling... LAST BUT NOT LEAST : STOP KIDDIN YOURSELF... with all due respect

Kidding myself? about what? Seems like the alternate picking is the only technique that G.G. even has problems with - sweeping is definitely easier on the right hand, but most of Yngwie's early stuff is sequenced Bach-type licks like 4 down then back to 2 etc. You can see him clench up on the picking, its no big deal we ALL do it. No need to be a tool and talk about things you know nothing about :)

Yea I was a bit of a tool there myself. But it just seemed ridiculous for someone to defend GG for not smiling (!)

Watch the Symphony X one again, and the F.B.T.S. one - there are parts where the picking is off / he legatos it - again, its not a knock on GG his technique is near-perfect, certainly better than mine. Sometimes the picking pattern on things is just not comfortable for you as a player, so you have to left-hand it or w/e

It's a gloss urethane finish. Many custom Strats (like the Trower Custom) have it. You will find it mostly on Maple necks and obviously not on ebony fretboards. I find it makes the action smoother and also much easier to clean.
