sorry but they just are, for me probably the best band in the last 20 years, other band may have had more of an impact in mainstream music but those 4 guys together are the best on the world, the way they think musically is astonashing
in the last 20 years... only considering rock bands, which is quite reducing knowing what bands like the roots did... you would pick major influences of today-bands first. try nirvana, the pixies, sonic youth, fugazi, jon spencer, pj harvey... even bjork and the beastie boys did more for rock n roll music than the chilly peppers!
ok, their first 2 album are rather good, but californication... i mean come on! being awesome at your instrument is one thing, but music is an other!!
once again, just because you liked it, and also many others, doesn't make it good.
music is opinion, i agree. i'm not ashamed to say i like crappy bands. for instance i like some songs from avril lavigne... but i will never claim her music is brilliant or even just ok!
i hate juan sebastian bach's music with all my guts, doesn't make him less of a genius.
i love frusciante but i'm still saying californication wasn't a good album... and neither was stadium arcadium
Well that's your opinion man, I'm entitled to mine too. That being said, why don't you like it? Because it wasn't a traditional "Rock" album? Isn't that a good thing?
well... have you seen frusciante, flea or smith play in an other band than RHCP?
i have seen (not in the flesh but, i have "heard") all 3 of them play alone on different occasions. after that, when you hear the "clean" sound they have on these albums, it's depressing. when i say clean, it's not in a good way, it's cold and empty, and (in my opinion) the songs are boring, except for that single... dunno the name.
i don't like traditional rock, i like... music that takes you somewhere "else"
If you mean on youtube then yes, I've seen them all on different projects. I've heard them all without the others or with other musicians. I think they always put a lot of emotion behind their stuff. They're true musicians, and they wouldn't put a piece of music out they didn't care about.
And what do you need for it to not be "Boring" for ya?
i need matter, i need something that is full. i don't specially listen to band with a dirty sound or metal bands, but something thicker. i need the RHCP to... take drugs again and create music like they did 15 years ago! like in under the bridge, the guitar sound is amazing, it's warm and everything, in scare tissue or californication it's little. smith and flea are not musicians who tend to be forgotten about in a song, so something is missing, something they lost
@mouldeck Anthony was always the main druggy in the band. When John got into it heavy he left the band. And Anthony actually had a lot of drugs goin through him while making Californication.
We must be listening for different things, because I Love the tones and music from Californication.
i dunno... i think it misses ups and downs, it's sort of flat. like the deftones. i love them live but on CD (like white pony) most of the time it's flat. the songs start at some point and never go up a level, you know what i mean?
jhon frusciante was pretty brilliant with josh klinghoffer though.
ok, so tell me which your 3, 5 or 10 (or more) favorite bands or albums
Are you talking about in the way of intensity or actual notes? And yes, his solo stuff is all brilliant in my opinion. Especially some of the older stuff like Smile from the Streets you Hold.
Hmmm, I don't want to put it in order of favorites but I'll name the top 5 I can think of off the top of my head RIGHT NOW: RHCP, Dave Matthews Band, Victor Wooten (more the musician than a lot of the songs; I dig his jams and stuff), Foo Fighters, Fugazi. RHCP and DMB stay but the rest change depending.
hehe then we don't listen to completely different things! :)
i like KOL, i saw them live once. i prefer the early albums but i like them, specially the drummer, he has a very free way to play, it's different from what we can usually hear. i'm not a fan of wooten cause he plays a sort of fusion-jazz stuff that i don't like, but definitely one of the greatest bass players ever! i like what he did with steeve smith though.
foo fighters... i like nirvana more (same "flat" problem here!!)
The Foos were kind of one that just came out that moment. I Like them a lot but I wouldn't put them above a lot of others that just don't come to mind.
Vic is great in my opinion. You should check out his tune "The Lesson"
It's one of those ones that grows on you the more you listen to it.
Vic also plays a lot of straight up funk. I don't know if you've heard this but I wouldn't put him out completely.
and john's amazing: he simply sat down as if he was a part of an audience at his own concert just to watch and enjoy his friends jaming! and he's really feeling it! :)) it's so much pleasure to watch him do so :)
