When I was a kid playing this, I wondered if my friends really were dead. Then with that small glimmer of hope, I didn't feel so bad about losing the game any more!!!
Imagine the other game over, "Jason wiped out the kids!" if there was a sequel. They'd push the envelope by doing this:
Jason killed the campers.
You're out of a job.
Angry parents sue you.
Their lawyers make a jackass out of you.
Judgement for the plaintiffs.
You're penniless.
Unable to pay, you end up in jail.
You get raped by your cellmate on a daily basis.
