  • I saw the one about how to be a successful black artist first. after seeing that one, i know you're not just another dude complaining about shit. it was fucking hilarious, and so is this one! but i think if i had seen this one first, i might have taken it too serious (like all white ppl do). ppl who don't like this vid should see the other one next and see if they're still angry. i think your shit's hot, and it won't take long to get more views cuz you got some great content.

  • Actually, I think having those added cultural associations with your work tend to make niche artists more popular than anything. A mediocre artist can get really far if he seems to be playing to a certain crowd. If people think he is representing them, or representing a minority view or opinion, people lap it up. Especially in the art world, where concepts over rule craftsmanship.

  • fucking brilliant

  • Sour grapes. Poor baby can't get his art shown anywhere? Coming on internet for a cathartic release? There have been soooo many black artists that were successful. Learn some history spiderboy.

  • @basa7979 ANOTHER MOTHERFUCKER FOR THE RECORD BOOKS! DID I SAY THERE WERE NO SUCCESSFUL BLACK ARTISTS? DO YOU LISTEN TO WHAT I'M SAYING OR ARE YOU JUST MAKING UP WHAT YOU THINK IM SAYING? I THINK IT MAY BE THE LATTER. IM NOT EVEN GOING TO ADDRESS THIS COMMENT, JUST READ THROUGH PREVIOUS COMMENTS ON THIS ISSUE TO SEE MY RESPONSE.

  • Hennesy is correct in all i've seen, and it's dually funny because of arts naturally ridiculousness. My theory is that when talent or craftsmanship is downplayed as a superficial quality it will always end up this way. ART is really one enormous Hipster when you think about all of it's traits. It acts like a hippie but is actually loaded, it loves andy warhol, it's snobby, it's cliquish, it's politically correct enforcing, it's ironic, and at the end of the day it lacks humanity & the uncool.

  • You know it's more racist for curators and critics to assume and exploit the race issue when maybe a black man just wants to paint something wonderful. But lets be clear, ART from CONCEPTION (1730-1780 loosely) is exactly in line with the philosophy of what most people dislike today, and is the result. Leonardo was more so a craftsman, his frame maker got paid more, so why we call the old masters artists is a bit of an error, not in full, but mostly. Kant and Hegel wrote the rules.

  • AHISTORICAL FREEDOM YA'LL!!!!!!!!

  • My grandmother painted a lot of watercolors of lighthouses, OBVIOUSLY they were symbolic of penises

  • So true brother, so true.

  • I'm tired of the whole race crap. You can be whatever color and still be a great artist.

I do agree that the artworks that become famous are those that make no sense and you have to investigate it to develop a meaning. Sometimes I feel an artist can make whatever she/he wants and without meaning anything by creating it, a critic can develop some bull crap meaning and story and it becomes Great Art.

I know this because I have done this once for a critique. Ridiculous...

  • "they love running their mouth" hahah you are fucking amazing man

  • How to be a successful artist - Wear childrens hats that don't fit, apparently.

  • people is to exemplify their culture through their art, making the exhibition a cultural festivity rather than a stoic art innovation. so the discrimination is there if the curators are trying to exploit the cultural aspect. but that does not mean that an artist is tied down to these terms. if the piece is recognized, in my city, the art has no race.

  • Comment removed

  • @crildate the perhaps couple dozen blacks that have been lauded with easily recognizable success by the art world is spit in bucket in comparison to that of white artists. But I do agree with you that there is a stratagem of "inclusion" used by institutions, curators in order to make them appear to be these centers of dynamic cultural contact

  • the top rated comments on this are fucking retarded. this guy knew half the people watching would be white and they'd all love it. well played Mr. Youngman. well played.

  • @cargoDROID just like the rap industry, supported by whites.

  • Haahahahahhaahhaha

  • Need more videos, your work is brilliant!

  • this is racist. maybe people would take him more serious as an artist if he didn't wear that clown ass spiderman hat

  • @Jmccain1881 yeah I'm the racist, i'm glad you caught that in a video trying critique a field predominantly dominated by white men. you should use your youtube account to actually start making some videos of your own using that sharp eye and intellect of yours instead of having a youtube account to favorite other shitty videos.

  • I think you forgot: "get the Rockafeller's to buy your shit to shape and influence culture".

  • haha love your videos. I'm doing an english lit course at uni (get money yo) and im havin to hear all this fuckin lit theory bullshit about ambiguity.

Im not stupid, i can understand the shit, but you make more sense than all those pointy head motherfuckers

  • Nice hat spidy.

  • The slide of the ambigious artwork, what was the large crater piece? Who did that?

  • @travis903 a rock from space, spent a long time working on it

  • @travis903 It's called "You" by Urs Fischer (2007). Inspired by "Exposing the Foundation of the Museum" by Chris Bender (1986).

  • IT'S A MOTHAFUCKIN' FLOWER

  • henny gets me fucked up, i got laid yesterday because of it

  • work. it. out.

  • Love that flower analogy. LOVE IT.

  • Hey Man,

Im a white male, (unsuccessful) artist - lol

but I dig your videos. keep it up.

  • So much truth you could bottle it.

  • Pretty much as damning a critique of critical theory as I've ever heard.

  • Thanks for letting me know I'm on the right track. I gotta be more ambiguous though.

The only problem is they are trying to put interpretation into all kinds of shit now.

I drew a picture of an owl this one time, and everyone tried to read into it's nocturnal nature and its symbolic wisdom.

Even white people can't just make shit without having to explain themselves anymore. One step closer to equality I guess.

  • dooooooooope !

  • Killer!!!

  • "It's rough being a woman in the Sudan and America", *cut to "I Love Lucy" candy factory scene*. Brilliant!

  • Great advice! I'm just going to burn my chnese identitty flower paintings and make some vaginal cracks on the gallery floor.

  • @jenninat0r THEN YOU GOTTA VIOLATE THEM CRACK IN AN ACT OF TRANSGRESSIVE GENDER REVERSAL AND SELL THE VIDEO OF THE PERFORMANCE FOR A COUPLE THOUSAND

  • @HennesyYoungman this ain't the first comment dumb, gothicmedea posted one before me, I'm white but you are racist and your video is lame, go die, seriously!
