Dragon age origins shits on skyrim as an rpg. In skyrim; you forge your own armor and weapons, you improve it and you get the best equipment in the game which completely kills the point of looting items, which (in my opinion) is one of the main points of an RPG. In DAO theres so much good loot and different item are suitable for different characters. Also Skyrim story doesn't feel important. I mean, its like fe flying lizards are more important than shitstorm of other problems in Skyrim.
One of the best game with in depth and new lore, intriguing plots, unique own character origin back stories, interesting cast and key points that push decisions into epic, cunning and lasting landmarks to your whole adventure
So Few RPGs ever could captivate as much as this one.
I Made the Mistake of Trading this game(along others) so i could get money for skyrim.
it took a swing from my sword and the look of my Reactionless enemie to ask myself "What is the point? i don't care about the characters, or the story, or anything. what is the point?"
i traded Skyrim back, Got DAO back.
Skyrim is an ok game, but it has nothing on DAO, DAO beats in Story and Characters, what mostly matters to me.

I enjoyed Dragon Age: Origins so much more than Skyrim. I didn't even bother to finish Skyrim because I felt like it didn't even matter. There are good things about Skyrim but none of it has to do with the main plot. I remember when I first played DA, I was so enthralled the whole way through. I just think it's a better overall game than Skyrim. From what I'm reading about the 3rd installment though, it seems like they are still not getting it on the right track after the decent 2nd game.
@Pulidocus Completely agree. It seems like Bioware is taking note of Skyrim and Mass Effect... They don't understand that Dragon Age saga deserves a personal approach, but closer to what Baldur's Gate was. While Dragon Age Origins was great, DA 2 was just ok. And I have heard something about "Multiplayer" in Dragon Age that makes me hate Bioware. Maybe because of EA, the hurry of making easy and fast money... I don't know. The fact is that don't recognize Bioware anymore.
@Pulidocus i agree Skyrim was pretty badass and those dragon fights were amazing but it was lacking in story and after you play games like mass effect and dragon age you began to expect a great story out of RPGs

Forgot to post lol... Just yesterday finished sinking 110hours into this over a course of ten days (skipping classes, homework and most chores lol...). Feel a bit light headed and totally stupid about it but hell, it was one amazing ride and probably worth it =).
Thankfully, not directly. In mass effect you always knew what the "good" and "bad" choices were even if you didn't agree with the responses. Here, the responses are randomized (in their placement so it's not like good always on top) and while there are definitely good and evil responses so to say, you don't know how the game will treat your response and it's up to you to decide which wording you feel fits the situation the most.
The said responses then translate to the game's (hidden for the main character) and visible "friendship" bars for all of the characters you can control. Each character will respond differently to your choices and so while some characters will start to love you more others will start to hate you more for the same choices and at the same time. It's pretty damn awesome and imo much better than how Mass Effect does it which is way too predictable and forced.
Ok, so I have a question for the Grey Wardens... Why wait for the DarkSpawn to come back and not just march into the Deep Roads and kill 'em all then and there? PROBLEM SOLVED!! =P Seriously though, I should email Bioware and ask. Any one els woundering why?

Coming from Mass Effect 1 & 2, this felt rather disappointing... Characters weren't very interesting (Alistair and Morrigan being my favourite), graphics were nothing to talk about (early 2000 games looked better), gameplay took some getting used to and the voice-acting was mainly bland as fuck. "Can I get you a ladder so you'll get off my back?" and Leliana's accent was horrific.
BUT, I enjoyed it, a rather epic adventure and I got used to it after a few hours of playing.

these RPG games go down in my book as some of the greatest of all times. along with Demon's Souls. that game did not have much of a story but the sheer amount of choices you can make in the game (most of which are not game related, more or less like your customization and how you destribute your levels, eventualy you can hit 722 with all 8 or 9 skills at 99) but your skills change your gameplay and what you can use, like if you train magic and intel you wont be using a tower shield any time soon
Absolutely the best game EVER. I have played this over 400 hours and I keep on going. Dragon age 2 wasn't even nearly as good as this game is. It's hard to play other games after I found this <3
@hades1234567 Not vital in terms of narration. But characters and certain events are referenced. I would suggest playing the first one as it is simply a better game.
@slipknot3597 Yeah I finished origins + awakening and about 11 hours into DA2 now. It's definately different but they are still good games. Origins is more of an Epic Hero type game.
Where as DA2 is more of a rag tag outcast story. Lucky for DA2 they upgraded the battle system. I'm on PC so I downloaded the ReDesigned mod which drastically changed the boring textures on the cities.
@301SO I beat Origins>Awakening>Golems>WitchHunt>Just started DA2(Imported characters in that order).
So far DA2 is a good game. I think people set their standards way to high with DA:O. To come up with a story to beat that is nearly impossible as far as sequels go. So many new Zelda's but everyone agrees that Ocarina of Time & A Link to the Past are the kings. So many new Final Fantasy's but everyone agrees that FF6/FF7 were the best. Using "everyone" very losely I know. is a good sequel sofar
@GpB217 agree'd DA2 is a different style. But still good in it's own right.
Having said that, it did feel like a game that took only a year to make (but still way better than most games that took a year to make). That's why I hope they take their time with DA3.

@airrick16 1. IMO yes but I'm a fan 2. No, though it has extra DLC that you pay to add onto the game 3. Not particularly... low lvl enemies, low lvl drops, high lvl/dlc enemies better drops, 4. playing the whole game with sidequests takes 45 hrs I think, but I've done it in way less... I think it gets boring if you just do side quest after side quest and don't interact with the other characters - if you hate dialogue, don't like NPC relations - boring, if you like them awesome. V. re-playable.

@SuperCaptainbilly they're different game genres you do know that right? it very much depends on what you're looking for in a game. As far as rpg's go, DA, along with the witcher, are far superior to pretty much all the other rpg titles. Mass Effect on the other hand doesn't add that much to a shooter rpg style game. sure it's has a lot of content but it didn't revolutionize anything, it just added. So, in a way, DA is better and more rewarding due to it's uniqueness

both the Witcher series and Dragon Age(Origins, DA2 sucked) are excellent and BOTH deserve recognition, but IMO, non of them compare to the colossus that is The Elder Scrolls
@TackyNames IDK. I know The Diablo series offers more customization of equipment and everything and multiplayer ect ect ect. But as far as storyline goes, IMO only Tales of Symphonia could top Origins.

I am not against new characters but against taking out ones that are dear to me, they can do it a three way story, with the Warden, Hawke ,and a new guy .... requiring 3 playthroughs , like the race system in DA O, I just cannot watch dragonage go through without my warden ... therfore i implore you all to do the same, let them know how you feel ..

these RPG games go down in my book as some of the greatest of all times. along with Demon's Souls. that game did not have much of a story but the sheer amount of choices you can make in the game (most of which are not game related, more or less like your customization and how you destribute your levels, eventualy you can hit 722 with all 8 or 9 skills at 99) but your skills change your gameplay and what you can use, like if you train magic and intel you wont be using a tower shield any time soon

@slipknot3597 Yeah I finished origins + awakening and about 11 hours into DA2 now. It's definately different but they are still good games. Origins is more of an Epic Hero type game.
Where as DA2 is more of a rag tag outcast story. Lucky for DA2 they upgraded the battle system. I'm on PC so I downloaded the ReDesigned mod which drastically changed the boring textures on the cities.

@301SO I beat Origins>Awakening>Golems>WitchHunt>Just started DA2(Imported characters in that order).
So far DA2 is a good game. I think people set their standards way to high with DA:O. To come up with a story to beat that is nearly impossible as far as sequels go. So many new Zelda's but everyone agrees that Ocarina of Time & A Link to the Past are the kings. So many new Final Fantasy's but everyone agrees that FF6/FF7 were the best. Using "everyone" very losely I know. is a good sequel sofar

Having said that, it did feel like a game that took only a year to make (but still way better than most games that took a year to make). That's why I hope they take their time with DA3.

One of the best RPGs I've ever played.The best next-gen RPG I've ever played. (I know, this comment makes me sounds old but hell, we've passed the age of SNES and PS1 and we know, a game could be the best in their own age and cannot be compared with the ones before its age -- technology issue) It is worth buying, whatever your expectation may be.

@alex5555434 i just felt the need to reply to this. i like grey wardens but there kindo of less than i expected. its like their sposed to be these legendary powerful warriors that are the heroes of ferelden. but in origins no on e really seems to respect them that much. i know there was the whole lohgain framing them but still many people didnt know about that but just didnt seem to respect them much. and they just didnt seem all that legendary. maybe duncan a bit, but not alistair. hes justsily

@airrick16 1. IMO yes but I'm a fan 2. No, though it has extra DLC that you pay to add onto the game 3. Not particularly... low lvl enemies, low lvl drops, high lvl/dlc enemies better drops, 4. playing the whole game with sidequests takes 45 hrs I think, but I've done it in way less... I think it gets boring if you just do side quest after side quest and don't interact with the other characters - if you hate dialogue, don't like NPC relations - boring, if you like them awesome. V. re-playable.

@SuperCaptainbilly they're different game genres you do know that right? it very much depends on what you're looking for in a game. As far as rpg's go, DA, along with the witcher, are far superior to pretty much all the other rpg titles. Mass Effect on the other hand doesn't add that much to a shooter rpg style game. sure it's has a lot of content but it didn't revolutionize anything, it just added. So, in a way, DA is better and more rewarding due to it's uniqueness

@TackyNames IDK. I know The Diablo series offers more customization of equipment and everything and multiplayer ect ect ect. But as far as storyline goes, IMO only Tales of Symphonia could top Origins.

@dinham16 errmmmmmhhh if you love storyline this is for you best 10 euros i ever spent if you do buy this buy the ultimate edition you get all the DLCs and expansion free ....this is a game that will take around 30 hours to finish not inculding the expansion....mulitple choices and pretty kick ass just my opinion of course :)
