  • what ever happened to this series? it was never shown as far as i know in australia. i wonder if this inspired george lucas to make the clone wars tv series.

  • It is interesting that despite being a couple of years old, the new show already looks so dated in terms of computer graphics. The original is over 40 years old and is still fun to watch. I expect in 40 years time, the new show will look archaic and completely unwatchable to it's audiences.

  • @PhwalalabahX I think of that more in the same way Babylon 5's CGI looked completely unrealistic, it's not that important because it was stylised and supposed to look that way. some nearly 20 years later, people still watch those first episodes of Babylon 5.

  • the new series was actually pretty good, but nothing can beat watching those physical miniatures getting blown to pieces!

  • no SPV ???

  • I just liked hearing from the guv'nor...

    thanks for that :-)

  • i prefer the puppet version to cgi i didnt find the cgi bad i just found the original SO much better

  • I saw this new series of Captain Scarlet on a kid's channel called 'CITV.' In the 60's they used to have puppets which their mouths move up and down when they're talking. But now with the new Captain Scarlet, the puppets turned into actors with real life movements. Jump, run, walk, drive and fight. This was based on the year 2008.

  • Classics don't need remaking, the puppets were better.

  • The "New" Captain Scarlet is a pathetic computer-generated mess with no soul whatsoever - looks like a bad video game. The original series, on the other hand, had Derek Medding's design genius and Barry Gray's stunning score - and of course the overall creative touch of Sylvia Anderson. Looks like ole Gerry really is nothing without Sylvia. And notice he takes all the credit for the original series, whereas he was just clever at letting other, far more talented people do all the work. Pathetic.

  • This show is visually stunning and well though out, it's a shame it didn't get as much popularity as it should have done.

  • I loved both of these series - just wish that new CS had proved to be more of a hit, would also have been nice to have a link back to the earlier series such as the odd SPV (now disused) being parked in the background etc

Ah well- at least new CS made it to the screen unlike UFO series 2 and Space 1999 series 3.....

  • When my son was small, I introduced him to Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Stingray. I remember him sitting through the opening 20 mins of the ´Thunderbirds Are Go´ film, watching in amazement at how ´Zero X´ was assembled and made ready for launch. An instant fan, I got him the 32 Thunderbirds episodes and the ´Thunderbird 6´ film on VHS. We would watch them together and my childhood memories flooded back, while his were just starting. Oh, and neither of us remember any strings!

  • Why is this not on TV.

I think kids would like this.

  • Really boring, now all is computer made. I'm really tired of this.

  • Interesting.

    Whatever happened to this?

  • @KiwiKugai It was shown on TV in 2005 and all 26 episodes are now available on DVD, check it out, it's fantastic, especially the second season.

  • Pause at 4:12 and look at the helicopter in the background. It's a russian Mi-? transport.

  • I watched to original when young as well. I rather I liked the new series.

  • PLEASE DONT LET AMERICA REMAKE ANY OF GERRY ANDERSON'S CLASSICS,THEY'LL JUST FUCK IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!THESE SITCOMS ARE THE VERY FEW THINGS IN LIFE THAT I CAN IDENTIFY WITH MY CHILDHOOD. DESTROYING THESE T.V. SHOWS(WHICH AMERICA WILL DO)IS THE EQUEVILENCY OF DESTROYING A CHILDHOOD. AND IM AMERICAN.

  • @real7060

    1. It's not a sitcom.

    2. You're 24, how can you remember this 70s show??

    3. TV shows cannot destroy childhoods. Unless you were forced to watch Doogie Howser.

  • @AshtonPhoto 1. how do you know how old i am 2. i have children thats almost 24 3. i never watched doogie howser.

  • @real7060

    1. You put your age on your channel.

    2. Again, remakes do not destroy classics.

    3. You can't spell.

  • It's really amazing. This is what, only 5 or 6 years old?

In that short time and, even with the benefit of motion-capture, the graphics and rendering now look like some kind of silly office joke that they chucked out while they worked on the real stuff.... and every single thing, from people to pineapples, looks like it's made from exactly the same material...wow......

  • the new angel interceptor is a gorgeous design

  • i like the new graphics

  • is gerry anderson still alive ?

  • @hookuspookus529 Yep, he's 82 in April

  • I always dreamed of seeing this turned into a film with real actors since I was a kid. It could be done easily today using CGI and real actors. The franchise and merchandising could be huge with sequels etc as the first film would deal with how Scarlett became indestructable. But it should be aimed at a more adult audience. Who's with me on this ???

  • @sharfrs1

Yes, I'm with you. Just as many movies have been made for Batman, Superman, Spiderman, etc. why should there not be something for the Gerry Anderson heroes? Unfortunately, I doubt it will be realized in my lifetime. I lived for this stuff when I was young. Joe 90, Stingray, Supercar, Thunderbirds. Loved them all. For me, this second thought for Captain Scarlet was cheap and disappointing.

  • i'll watch it!

  • Home sick, I'm catching up on random youtube stuff. I first heard about Captain Scarlet today, and watched one episode of original and then the new one. My first viewing at 35, my review isn't tainted by nostalgia. The old one could stand updated story telling techniques, but it's BY FAR more attractive than the new CGI one. Not interested in watching rest of new ones, but will see originals! New tech might mean lower production costs, but not better production!

  • i like this series have got it on DVD

  • I still have the Dinky Toys SPV on my mantlepiece.

  • Comment removed

  • @sorePenis Seriously? Have you ever heard an indian accent? It's nothing like that. The voice acting in the series was actually very good, witht he exception of Harmony's infuriating accent, but that's no the actors fault.

  • Some really cool designs. Would be nice to see them done as miniatures instead of CGI. They'd look even better.

  • sig gerry

  • It hurts to see they changed leitenent green into a woman!!!

  • I am 48 and was six years old when I first saw Captain Scarlet on Saturday morning TV. Now I own all 35 eps on DVD and all of my children are fans. It is a marvelous feeling.

  • I love this! Thank uou for posting..S.I.G. :-)

  • some of the gci episodes are really good but he changed to many characters and names i prefare the original.

  • The CGI was very advanced but the asthetic just was weightless, as were the characters and the music. The atmosphere was very flat and in contrast made the old puppet version feel like live action!!! May be just a sign of the times,..but Pixar are pulling off vibes better than this and I think Reboot was the closest to an Andreson CGI. New Captain Scarlet is NOT it! S.I.R.

Interested to see a live action version, tho ..?

  • The only reason why I would have watched the new series is because I watched the old series...this didn't get me past the pilot episode. The pilot epsiode from the old series blew me away!!! in strak contrast, I felt the new pilot insulted my intelligence,..which is a shame because it was a missed opportunity.

  • As an old fogey who remembers fondly the original, i think this CGI version stands up well in my opinion. As for Gerry's live action career; U.F.O. is a great addition to Gerry's canon of work. If Dr Who can be brought back to such success then why not some of Mr Andersons body of work in the Sci-Fi field?

  • @kcsnakebite

I watched the original shows as a kid in the sixties and think the aircraft combat is darn good. Indeed, if you had MiG-15 vs F-86 action over Korea there would be little better if it used these techniques. This CGI could be used to show the right models of ME-109s fighting the right models of Supermarine Spitfires or Eindeckers against Airco DH-2s over the trenches of the Western front. I think Gerry's crew did a smashing job.

  • I feel I have to temper my judgement of the new series with the realisation that, for me, the charm of the old series is now mostly nostalgia. When I was a kid I used to play at being Destiny Angel, my cousin was Captain Scarlet and his little brothers were always the Mysterons. This gave my cousin the perfect excuse to beat up his little brothers. I'm not a kid anymore and my cousin has sadly passed away. So, maybe the kids of today will find it as inspirational as we did, who knows?

  • Hi LoriCiani,

this is a beautifull story, thanks for that.

    C.S.

  • @CaptainScarlet300 not when you realise LoriCiani is a man

  • @DarkKnightBob1o1 Well, thanks for the offer of a sex change Bob, but I can assure you I'm all female...well, I was the last time I looked. : ))

  • @LoriCiani Part of the charm of the old fashioned mariotronic puppet shows was that it was a puppet show and also the magic of seeing really well detailed and cool toys in action. There is nothing that a child would love better.

  • @LoriCiani lori ciani? didn't she get turned inside out by a transporter malfunction?!

  • @anton7580, ah at last, someone who gets my pseudonym without me having to go into the gorry details. Thanks. : ))

  • @LoriCiani you're welcome. it's a name that stuck in my head. the scene in the film scared the hell out of me and left me traumatised when i was 10! i read the novel and discoverd who she was. kirks lover! it still sends a shiver down my spine!

  • @LoriCiani - Cool story bro.

  • Gerry Anderson's productions always have the coolest vehicles.

  • Gerry Anderson's career as a producer of great TV programming ended in 1975. There might be a correlation with his divorce. The first series of Space 1999 was good (sort of Star Trek, being serious), but the second series went down in quality from the start (sort of Star Trek's last season, but much worse).

  • at the beginning I hated this new version, but now I think I love it

  • Yes I think all the fans of the original show did. You just have to bite through that and then it is a really cool TV series. But I don't think it is fair to say it is a new 'version' it is a completely new series, yes it has the same basics of the original series, but it does stand in its own right. But I think the 'fans' of the original show just don't realise that this TV series was made for a new generation, not to satisfy the old.

    5 stars!

  • Nope.

    I prefer the original.

    The new one lacks charm.

Perhaps Gerry needed his ex-wife on the team!

  • Yes I suppose this one lacks the charm, but I think that charm was more nostalgia. Personally I do have a soft spot for his series. Really what I think Anderson was doing here was trying to make up for Franke's shoddy work on the Thunderbirds movie, and I don't blame him. This series embodies what Anderson loves to do in television is use puppetry in some form.

But your right, bring back Silvia!

  • With one or two exceptions, the characters on the New Captain Scarlet are an improvement from the old series. Captain Black, in particular, is perfect in this new series. You never know which way he's going to go until it happens.

  • Personally I feel thats where the character, stumbles, I won't say he falls, because I will concede that he is a menacing villain, and for a kids show he does kill in several episodes. What I don't like about him is that he's not the shrunken eyed zombie he was in the original. But to be perfectly fair Anderson wrote the character so he can do what he likes to him, and I do like the fleshed out history between him and scarlet. He just holds a different screen presence perhaps more cunning now.

  • Believe me I'm seen the new one and it's definitly worse then the old one. It's a Sun readers version.

  • i hate the animated one, but i wish i had the whole collection of the original one

  • Captain Scarlet sooo ruled!

  • loved the old one, it was almost too hilarious to be real. This NEW one looks AMAZING! Anyone know if or when it will be possible to get it in Canada?

  • I've never seen it,and I live in the Maritimes. What I would suggest is to check either Amazon or the Coles website.Either of them may have it.I got the Thunderbirds set from Amazon.
