  • amazing !

  • the expressions on his face near the end are priceless.

  • LAWLZ!! this is great music, but it's also hilarious.

  • Comment removed

  • especially the way he looks at her !! LOL

  • why dont you upload the entire performance????

    :(((

  • Vengerov manages to make this a comedy!

(It is not a positive thing)

  • lmfao! i love his passion.

  • Man! The orchestra is really cookin' at the beginning XD.

  • Who else thinks he looks like his going into Buzz lightyear's spanish mode?

  • Where is the other part of the video? very beatiful the song. I would like to hear the rest of the video

  • woooooooowww heissssssssssssssssssss

  • This guy I like. He has the eyebrows of prophecy and epicness.

  • Is that woman David Garrett's mother?

  • he was like, ohhh. yeaaa i am gonna tap that ass tonight

  • is that Hilary Clinton?

  • @whoishenry hahahahahahahahaha!!! maybe that's the only thing she can do!! hahahaha

  • Very beautiful: The violin` fantastic, song`PERFECT

  • whats the singer's name?

  • Leslie Garrett

  • @1203456789 the ministry of USA, hillary clinton..

  • Has any of you listened play the violin to samvel yervinyan? do it! he is the best!

  • wheres the rest????? please put the whole thing!

  • "Tears"!!!! I LOve THIS!!

  • Where to find the rest of this?

  • Don't you just love it when unknown losers try to sneer & jeer the masters.

Pffffffff.. Don't you just find it utterly ridiculous how van Gogh moves about when he paints?

Or how feeble-minded daVinci must be to wear that stupid hat while inventing....

ha... looks like a monkey .....

  • After she came in

    - He was acting like a guy having spasms

  • Blckmtlbassplyr sucks!... vengerov moves because he can feel the music and express it in such a way in his music that seperates him from everyone else. he is one of the best violinist today

  • he looks like he's tryin to squeeze out a rather large poop when he plays.. he moves alot too.. which can be kinda annoying..

  • Comment removed

  • Yep, it sure does. I was like, "What is he doing with his face?" If you silence the video, it looks like he's using a high-speed wind machine prop right in front of his face @_@

  • king Maxim xd

  • I detest this moron by the name Vengerov!

He is one among 1000 mediocre violin players!

Only difference he got media backing!

Listen to Heifetz and Kogan playing this music by Waxman and Vengerov is reduced to the "schoolboy" he is and will forever be!!

  • errr..are you kidding? Maxim is defiantly one of the worlds best in todays world. youtube proves it. What is the point in comparing anyone to violinsts from at least 70 years ago......

  • They were better????

  • Carmen doesn't have blond hair. Carmen was a wild gypsy, as I recall, not a perfumed blond.

  • wtf, hillary can sing

  • he has the expression on his face as if he has the ultimate pleasure playing beside her lol

  • he has his own style,u dont have to see him to guess who's playing!

  • this is bizet's carmen for the play. carmen fantasy is sarasate for orchestra. if i'm not mistaken. pls correct me

  • As far as i know you are very right..

  • this is arranged by Franz Waxman

  • how come when anybody plays a carmen fantasy they have some random singer come in?!

  • Its only inevitable, no random singer can resist the power of Carmen Fantasia.

  • Vengerov has to be the MOST entertaining Violinist to watch....haha I wish i could move like that and still make a decent sound...So much to learn...so little time .. :(

  • i'd bet money maxim hit that after the concert...you can see it in his eyes toward the end

  • To be honest, he hits on any girl...he's a real womanizer... he definately tried to flirt with her!

  • bellissimo! the voice of an angel

  • I love that part of Carmen Habanera oh and aloso the first movement

  • lol

  • yea dude, I would totally do that soprano.

  • Monkey face wants some bananas!

  • wow, maxhansendk, Vengerov hater..see you were here 2 months ago slandering his playing, and then just had to come back again and slander his playing, and I see that you have visited many of his other vids in the past few weeks slandering those? What happened? Did he jilt you or something? Or are you just a very miserable person that feels the COMPULSION to do nothing constructive? Wow, dude, you seriously need some help. I see you on every one of his vids ripping him apart. Sad, very sad.

  • Youtube has turned the pages upside down :) funny april 1st joke!.

    Smashing performance

  • ... she looks like Hilary Clinton...

  • yes her voice is beautiful even angelic I'd say, but damn show some respect for her talent instead of drooling at her heels....

  • lol

  • WTFFFFFF

    HILARY CLINTON MUCH?!

  • lol. True, but I figure this lady has a better voice than Hilary's.

  • hillary clinton LoL

  • LOL i know !!

  • you could use that chin of his as a battering ram

  • Is it French?

  • yes yes :)

  • I just listened to Kogan play this before jumping over here--Max! Dude!.

Well let me protect my ego--some day if you keep practicing...... ;)

  • Wat happen to his head?Cacat aredy arh?

  • Ah, zing went the strings of their hearts! so wonderful...

  • Ahh Leslie, so enchanting as always.

  • OMG, his fingers!!!i want them

  • fantastikus

    edmundo

  • He is, without doubt, one of the greatest violinists around. The only thing I REALLY can't stand are the stupid faces he makes when he plays. I think it's so pretentious and unnecessary. In his younger days he was well-behaved when playing. Those kinds of faces just annoy me and detract from his truly magnificent virtuosity

  • It's funny... but my 2 favorite musicians are Vengerov and Cecilia Bartoli... and she is actually WORSE than him with her faces! Haha. I just think it's sweet.

  • the face of vengerov, is so fun!!!!

  • i want her voice and i'm a guy

  • Are you sure that Kogan recorded the Waxman Carmen Fantasy and not the Sarasate?

  • he did both actually, but he said he like the Carmen a lot more.

there is a vid of him playing the waxman on youtube, u can search for it.

  • Wow,thanks! I think this piece really belongs to the Heifetz legacy, and it took some guts to play it while Heifetz was still alive! Of course we know that Kogan was a technical master of the instrument and there was nothing too difficult for him to play convincingly. His reputation among Russians as a KGB operative has really hurt his historical standing as a violinist. Thanks for the "heads up!"

  • kogan is better in this....

but maxim has a good recording of tchaik

  • could you put the whole thing up

  • man, Maxim sucks after listening to Kogan

and what pretentious phrasing, reminds me of Lang Lang

  • Se agradece a quien me pueda dejar el nombre de la cantante.

  • hola.....

Parece a Leslie Garrett, una cantante Inglesa, y se tiene que decir, muy buena. Asi es!

  • damn...she has an amazing voice

  • cool arr

  • Who is that hot babe singing next to quasimodo vengerov? ... she's gotta be french because I love how she moves her mouth and rolls her guttural "R's" for that authentic slutty sounding frenchwoman in heat. Good singing and eye candy too .. but the clip is too short .. damn if I had her name I would search YouTube for her alone ..!!!

  • you`r sick

  • lesley garrat

  • This is a bit a strange combination with a singer and a violinist?

  • ah...the Waxman is the best

  • who's the singer? she's pretty (not in Hitlary way)

  • If you listen carefully, you can hear his chub.

  • all hear kogan on this piece.

also heifetz, who comes close to that.

  • he looks like hes about to rape her at 1:15

  • Vengerov is pretty badass. Weird mannerisms, but grade A violin playing.

  • lmao

  • i never knew hiliary cliton could sing opera =D

  • I could have sworn that it was Clinton when the woman first came out!

  • LOL you made my day ;-)

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO!!!!!!!

    lololol *gassp

    LOLOLOLOLO

  • the singer kinda looks like hilary clinton

  • Hillary wishes...!

  • hillary sux dont vote for her

  • Bien ! Mais c'est une habitude de ne jamais mettre la fin quand il joue ?

  • e' possibile pubblicare tutto il video?e' bellissimo vedere un violino cantare piu' della cantante......grande maxim!

  • Vengerov is a relic of a soon-to-be-bygone era where audiences sat on their hands, spun their Heifetz LP's, and waited for the next big thing to come out of Russia or China. It is interesting that he comments in "Playing By Heart" that he hated practicing - in the clips as a kid he sounds amazing, but now I think he's let himself go a bit. Now, there are literally hundreds of amazing kids out there, tearing it up, who LOVE practicing (Hadelich, Barati, etc). Watch out.

  • What are you talking about? Vengerov is currently [along with Joshua Bell] the most popular Violinist(s) of our time [my opinion only]. Perhaps a case of sour grapes on losing a comp or not performing as well as you could? From yourself?

  • I never said he wasn't popular, but since when does popularity necessarily equate to superior quality? Ok, I may have been being a bit too poetic with my "relic of a bygone era" thing, and I know lots of people love him and I don't begrudge them that. My point is that if you ignore his celebrity status and his onstage antics and listen objectively, I think he ranks somewhere in the middle of a growing pack of elite violinists. BTW, what is "losing a comp"?

  • Hello cbernz, sorry for not replying sooner.I can see your point about "celebrity status" etc., but perhaps you could elaborate on "a growing pack of elite violinists"? I recently followed the Yehudi Menuhin Young Musician of the year competition, and was extremely impressed with the young talent that performed in this competition. They were truly world class, but I don't think they could be described as the "elite" just yet. "losing a comp" is a silly comment and I retract completely. Thanks.

  • what!? einkleine jazz better check his understanding of music if you here kogans rendition of this on youtube its played so extremely fast that it loses my attraction to it. imagine if you heard an operah singer sing it like that? youd probably walk out

  • A competent cafe fiddler, that's all; full of his own ego.

Waste no time but hurry to hear Leonid Kogan play this piece. What a tragedy that the KGB murdered him, allegedly, when he was threatening to defect to the West.

  • absolutely right. just full of showy mannersims, though with a truckload of talent.

all hear kogan, or even heifetz.

  • Habanera con "Ñ" sera para hacerlo mas español

    ???

    ;)

  • Impossible to watch, nice to listen to

  • Leonid Kogan is Vengerov's master - easily. Heifetz is in another world, too. Almost not human.

  • The notes are Slurred. What are you talking about? You really think those notes sound muddy?

  • some of his playing is messy. Vengerovs playing is energetic, but sometimes gets the better of him, for instance at 0:22-23 where he loses clarity through the slur .. lol :/

  • He's a very good player of course...

The only thing I don't like about him is that he "fiddles" too much for my tastes :/

  • Pure fire as usual! His playing always gives me goosebumps, and my feet start to float in the air. I love him so much!

  • Has anyone (who has commented here) ever listened to Vengerov's recording fo this on cd? It's truly brilliant! And what's more, is that he was 14 when he recorded it! His excellence continues through-out his life. :)

  • i am sure it won't

  • ...so who's 'excellence' will?

  • it sounds good but he looks so suffering playing his violin and will have problem later on.

  • HEIIIIFEEEEETZ!!!! if u hear this... please come back and save us all! please make this go away. i mean .. roflcopter! what is this? or is it a comic bit maybe??

  • first i heard all pice of maxim, and i was there in bruxelles when kaciatrian played, there is nothing to speak, maxim is a big violinist and kaciatrian will be just a winner of competition like so many violinist.that s a true

  • how says kaciatrian play better?you are crazy!you cant compare vengerov and him, listen music of vengerov and you understand his level

  • Wait a second...where's the rest of the piece! Listen to the whole recording of Khachatryan's and then make your statement. I disagree with you. Vengerov knows how to commercialize his playing, but in doing so, he has ruined his art! A little over-exaggerated, wouldn't you say!

  • Omg I wish my fingers can move that fast =(

  • wow that was great

  • sergey khachatryan play better.klounada

  • hefetz rooooooooooooooools

  • at first glance, i thought hillary clinton was on a campaign fundrasier singing for money! hahahaha

  • that is so funny

  • lol omg. u made me laugh my ass of.

  • Hey!!! blow you nose before you sing!!!

I love Maxim but not that sucky singer

  • where's the rest ?

  • too muhc fake emotion

  • this is awful, haha

  • nice playing! but why so much on the face, well, still nice playing though.

  • Lately I've been a bit disappointed with Vengerov. I went to listen to him play at Carnegie Hall. Skip the entire second half because of a supposed shoulder injury. There are a lot of violinists who are not as flashy but much better if one listens (i.e. Kavakos, Khachatryan, Shaham, etc.)

  • HAHAHA!

  • man just listen to that run at :21, sloppiest thing ever

  • I agree

  • Haha this is a joke compared to kogan's rendition, both technically and especially musically

  • Technically not so much, however I do agree with you kogans is better musically although he could put a little more heart into what he is playing

Its hard to tell - Kogans has crap quality on youtube >_<

  • what are you talking about? if you can't see the emotion in Kogan's playing then you have problems. You probably just think Vengerov is more emotional bc he makes weird faces and dances around when he plays but if you close your eyes and listen solely to the music you will hear a lot more emotion in Kogan's playing. Also, Kogan is by far technically superior to Vengerov, and perhaps the 2nd most technically skilled violinist on record.

  • to those whose senses are offended by his moves just shut your eyes and listen, okay?

  • Probablemente es el mejor violinista del mundo. Enorme Vengerov!!!

  • the music and passion are so intense in this clip.

its like watching two lovers who share a secret...

    Bravo!

  • some of his playing is messy. I think Vengerov is amazing, but at the moment nothing can compare to Kogan's rendition. Vengerovs playing is energetic, but sometimes gets the better of him, for instance at 0:22-23 where he loses clarity through the slur .. lol :/

  • Good grief this poor fellow makes a fool of himself with all that making faces and spasm nonsense...least they could do is let him play in the pit until he gets well enough to control himself. I did find a couple performances of Waxman on here after stumbling into this silliness..serious musicians can search for the Heifetz or Kogan interpretations

  • Vengerov doesn't make a fool of himself!!!how can you say that?! Listen to the music that he plays, if you don't like his faces (which I think are extremely cool) don't watch him. Vengerov is so much better than heifetz or kogan. All heifetz ever does is use about 1 mm of his bow and play so fast you can't hear...

  • yes I am harsh sorry..but..fake showboating and being cool creates a problem for aspiring students. They pick up bad habits that take forever to fix..excess movement means constant adjustment of bow to violin which produces many problems. It is like a cajun fiddler trying to style himself in a classical stance..it would not produce the desired effect. Heifetz produced perfection with 1 mm of bow and it is hard for non violinists to understand this

  • I agree that movement of the body creates many problems in terms of sound, and shifting but you have to understand that Vengerov sorted his technique out when he was about 10 years old. Nowadays he only thinks about music, and not about his technique because he doesn't have to.

  • You really can't compare Heifetz with Vengerov. If you listen closely to their records you'll hear that they both play with perfection, but Vengerov's music envolves much more philosophy, different types of sound, different characters. I personaly like that very much.

  • He puts so much energy in his playing it's no wonder he moves so much. I'm sure it's not just fake showboating that he does, cause he needn't do that. He wouldn't be so famous if he was just a cajun fiddler trying to style himself in a classical stance.

  • vengerov does not play with perfection at all. This carmen fantasy video is filled with mistakes!

  • i agree. I think Maxim is a better showman because he is kind of showing off with his weird body movements. I think he was better as a child. He plays gypsy or short pieces better than lengthy and serious music because I think he is not capable of understanding them (with all respect!)

  • I don't think you should be criticizing Heifetz after I read that horrible "argument" or yours... Heifetz is much better than vengerov.

  • thank you!

  • and heifetz is dead ans has been for a long time now, so who cares (not to sound rude or disrespectful) , the schools of playing are radical beyond comparison. you just cant compare, too many factors.

  • Anyone who has actually heard Kogan's recording and then listened to this would shrug their shoulders and move on to the next video.

  • Exactly ... It is simply incomparable. Vengerov is playing (and looking) like a rough peasant (with all the cheap effects around - singer etc.). Kogan like an amazing emotional violin aristocrat of supreme virtuosity.

  • it s fantastic... just listen music and forget every bad things... and funny too

  • What shit! So choppy and unlyrical. Not to mention the fact that he messes up completely... Kogan's version is a million times better

  • If you like the Carmen themes, be sure to watch my flute video performance of the Carmen Fantsay in the arrangement by Borne. Thanks, Nina

  • Vengerov is indeed the BEST violin player at the moment, BUT...In my opinion,Vengerov is the best violin player in pieces like that or the dance of the goblin jazz-classical...the best violin player in classical pieces IS OISTRAKH

  • before you guys decide to insult one of the greatest violinists alive, why don't you criticize your OWN playing for a change? i bet none of you coulda pulled that off. dont pay attention to the moving around, which i'll admit, has its funny moments..listen to the MUSIC. thats whats important. man..you guys are sooo immature..u got a lot to learn.

  • u stupid fucks.u have no idea what good music is.this guy is one of the best in in the world

  • Awful! simply awful'! here vengerov misses completely.

Like a child against Leonid Kogan!

  • every recording of Kogan was when he was like 50 years old. Vengerov is the Reincarnation of paganini. nobody will be able to outplay vengerov

  • "every recording of Kogan was when he was like 50 years old."

-This idiot obviously done his research. Vengerov will never reach 1/100 of the mastery kogan had

  • you're kidding right?

  • He would be better if he played the violin correctly, supporting the violin with his left hand instead of his shoulder. The clamp rest does nothing but cut his sound in half. That's why he has to move so much to compensate. Unfortunatly I can't stand to listen to him even though I admit that he is very talented.

  • =o clamp rests do cut the sound, but not by a psychoacoustic value of 10dB, it's more like 0-1.5dB; barely noticeable/nonexistent change in dynamic. I'm using a really poor low quality clamp rest, and I used a mounted dB meter with 0.5dB sensitivity steps. Regardless, it wouldn't affect projection by a function of 10dB in performance. Not even a mute does that.
