  • The interesting thing about the storytelling in Dumbo, is that if you've seen the poster or dvd box, you already know that he flies at some point in the movie. But when you watch it it's still astonishing when he does fly

  • what year is this from?

holy crap Walt, an Uncle Tom's Cabin reference? yeesh.

also, why did they cut out the beginning with the "Look Out for Mr. Stork" song?

  • does anyone here knows on what software program did they used on making this film movie possible???i mean the dumbo movie,,i want to know all the possible software that been used???....all help will be much appreciated,,thanks in advance

  • It seems more modern due to the fact that Walt is opening the cover to the 1980's Black Diamond VHS.

  • i love you walt disney

  • Mr Stork is Winnie the Pooh to and The Chesire cat AND Kaa

  • I heard that Dumbo had a small budget.

  • it did because the picture that preceded it, Fantasia, didn't make a lot of money

  • Did Alice in Wonderland make money?

  • I don't know how much money it made, but it was panned by critics because it "Americanized" a work of British Literature. I love the movie though :)

  • Looks like that stork had his work cut out for him.

  • actually, Walt wasn't even in California or the US during the time Dumbo was being made.

His brother Roy had suggested eh go on a goodwill mission for the US to Latin America. It was a way for him to escape the animator's strike that was tearing he studio apart and give Walt, who was on the point of nervous breakdown, a much-needed break.

He had laid the groundwork for Dumbo during the strike.

  • but it was the strikebreakers (including the Nine Old Men) who executed the film in Walt's absence.

That's why the animation is much more "cartoonish" and simple than in Pinocchio, Fantasia, or Snow White. Walt wasn't there to hold them up to his usually demanding standards.

  • plus they had extremely limited resources, what with most of the animators picketing instead of drawing. that's also why it's so short compared to Disney's other films.

Great man, Walt Disney. But he didn't have too much say in how Dumbo was executed. At least in the animation. I;m sure he had a lot to do with the story.

  • i love the way people spoke back then

  • LOVE this movie!!!!! cool video!!!

  • It may have been a "happy picture", but it was also a fast, inexpensive, economical one that was intended to restore some desperatly needed revenue that had been lost on box office failures "Pinocchio" and especially "Fantasia".

Just goes to show ya, fast and cheap doesn't always have to mean crappy. This is a real gem, this one is.

  • @Marbles471 I guess Walt moderately enjoyed it.

  • Thanks for posting. This is great stuff.

  • Wow, I didn't know Uncle Walt's favorite was Dumbo. I Ironically, it is the shortest yet most heartwarming of his films. :)

  • thanks for uploading this.
