if you are going to play this kind of music, why bother buying a gibson and nicer pickups? guitar pickups are designed for certain frequencies, and when you tune that low, the type of pickup you use barely matters at all. you could get the same tone with literally any humbucker that can handle high gain settings. i build guitars and i just don't understand your logic here. (not gonna bash the "doom" thing, because i just don't understand it.)
@calvinscheuerman You build guitars? You shouldn't. saying a low tuned guitar doesn't need good pickups is just about the most ignorant bullshit I've ever heard. Please stop pontificating.
@EorAmbient i could get this exact tone out of any guitar i have. if this is the tone you're after, dont waste your money on an expensive guitar. buy any piece of shit with a humbucker, de-tune it because you think it makes your playing sound "heavy" (it doesnt) and then play very beginner music. there ya go. doom.
@calvinscheuerman Maybe this exact tone. But that has nothing to do with the genre of music, it's the tiny modelling amp that will make any guitar sound the same. I really feel sorry for people like you, so closed minded and ignorant... Anything can sound like doom? Tell that to high on fire, sleep, bongripper, ELECTRIC WIZARD, and the hundreds of other amazingly talented doom bands. Open your mind, you're doing nothing but boxing yourself in and making yourself look like a fool.
@calvinscheuerman HAHAHAH I JUST WATCHED YOUR VIDEOS. Oh dear lord... I'm no steve vai, but maybe you should work on your own music before you try to troll others.
Ummm, sorry, people have their opinions and it's a vox modeling amp and I haven't had money to replace it. And my guitar is in tune buddy it's in D standard with my low string tuned to C.
It all has to do with the tuning and the amp in this video I think I was in drop C and I used the 70's marshall setting on my amp. But try putting the sustain up alot and tone a little past middle and turn your amp up!

Doom metal is not about being technical or skillful. It is about creating a mood. It isn't for the narrow-minded.

how did you get the big muff to give such a doomy sound? Or does it have to do with the rest of your set up?
thanks
