@noirettebeauty I think the correct word for a bluebird is "þröstur", it has probably been translated like this because it fits with the script and how their lips move. But anybody, please correct me if I'm wrong!
@VampiricEmbrace kemst a different form of the verb "koma" meaning come... Translated directly: You can "come" over = Þú kemst yfir :) More correct translation would be on the other hand be "you can go over" or even "you'll make it over".
Wow... I just watched the Spanish version of this, where they have very high-pitched voices compered to these. You should watch this and then the Spanish version. I promise you'll be surprised at how different the voices are! =D
Thank you very much for writing such long and helpful description! *Writes down words I have to learn* ;D
@SpaceBandit666 An Icelander can hear the difference between the pronunciation of (fu)ll and (fu)gl easily but it's understandable that it's difficult for someone who is unfamiliar with our language.
Im swedish, and I like Icelandish alot...its like they have the old language still...from Vikings.
And I like that they care about their language, they dont put in all these new words like most countries do. Im thinking about all the english wirds that keeps petrifying most languages.
@eaglesgogirl they're just different letters that makes different sounds. It's not like in spanish if that's what you had in mind. A (sounds like 'a'), Á (sounds like 'au'). E (sounds like 'e'), É (sounds like 'ie')....
1. When "fl" is said at the beginning of the word "flott" (great/flashy) it sounds like it's pronounced as in English "fly", instead of the usual "bl/pl" combination of "fl". Is that right for all beginnings?
2. In the online dictionary I use (the extensive free Wisconsin one) "blóm" is listed as a neuter noun, but "blómin" and "falleg" suggest it's feminine. Is it neuter or feminine, or is there more I should know in that case.
By the way, this is a superb video. I'm only just learning to speak Icelandic and I can understand every sentence in this video, as it was aimed at kids. I should buy Bambi in Icelandic in full.
@KeaneKiller18 Oh, sorry, I think I understand now. 'Blómin' = the flowers (nominative plural with definite article) and as it's plural neuter there's no ending to the adjective stem 'falleg'. I overlooked that it's plural. Thanks for your help :)
Iam from the Faroe Islands and i could understand almost everyword that was said:).. It is very similar to the faroese language... Tit hava eitt fagurt tungumál :)
Unless it can beat Hungarian's 35 cases, Cantonese's 8 or so tones, English's spelling, Xhosa's click letters, Arabic's pronunciation or the Hindi alphabet, I'd say that it's not even close to being the most difficult language in the world. There's still languages like Finnish, Polish and Thai, which could all give Icelandic a run for it's money.
Icelandic and German are both germanic languages, and so far I've noticed similar words, such as: Spegill for mirror, hundur for dog, Höfn for harbour, strönd for beach, and so on.
I can easily read and understand the icelandic, it's pretty much like old norwegian (Im norwegian). I understand more icelandic than german, eventhough I had german for 4 years at school, and almost never heard icelandic before. ; P

Clostest language to islandic is norwegian mate.. english and german don't help you one bit.
with annoys me.. it goes like this..
norwegians understand both swedish danish isladnic..
swedes understand norwegian and danish but.. only 40% of islandic.. its unfair.. stupid norwegian ppl.. lol anyway german english dont help.
jaffla 2 years ago
hey i just did my own research, and i would say it does actually.
i mean yeah norwegian is related, but its alot easier for german speakers then say, spanish or korean or arabic, because:
1. icelandic and german have akkusativ, dativ, genitiv and nominativ
2. they have three genders
3. the conjugate verbs
but yeah thats interesting to know about the norwegian :p, i've had 4 norwegian exchange students already by my family
Kristoff1702 2 years ago 2
@jaffla :
Actually, some Icelandic words are similar to german, dutch and english rather than the Nordic languages.
Icelandic: Lyfta Dutch: Lift Swedish: Hiss Norwegian: Heis
Icelandic: Stræti German: Straße Danish: Gade Swedish: Gata
Icelandic: Auglýsing English: advertisement Norwegian: Reklame
Icelandic: Flugstöð German: Flughafen Danish: Lufthavn
