@karissarussel14 No, I would say is more of a high end point and shoot. It does not have an interchangeable lens. It's a good camera, but I now use the Sony NEX-5.
@mben25 No the G9 does not. The new G12 has miniature mode for video. The bad thing is that after the G9 Canon took away time-lapse. One of these days they will give us a camera with everything we want.
hi, i have a question about photo review. when i take a picture, it shows photo that i took, and doesnt go back to live view for next picture, unless i press button to take next photo. Is there a way to customize photo review- like how many seconds it should be or not at all? Thank you. Hope someone understands my non-tech language :)
@funnyintellect1 after you push the MENU button you will want to scroll down until you come to "Review." Here your choices are Hold, Off, 2 sec., 3 sec, up to 10 sec. You probably have it set to Hold. Choose a time amount (mine is 2 sec.) and then press the MENU button again. Hope that helps.
hey there .. i also have a canon G9 and ive always owned canon cameras .. but when i started using this one ... i could not .. well cannot find the color accent mode .... where may i locate it ... please let me know a.s.a.p .. ive always loved that feature in my cameras ...
If the top dial is in "SCN" you then turn the dial (the one with the ribs) on the back of the camera until you get to the accent or color swap modes. You can also do this in the video mode.
does anyone know how to make a small windscreen for the on camera mic? I'm using a G9 to shoot short movies until i save up enough to get a good camcorder but the audio isn't very good. Would appreciate the help. Thanks!
This probably the 10th time I've watched this video. It's great. Excellent demo of the features. May I ask abouth background music? Who is the artist and what is the title?
how do you get to the color accent mode? i have had the camera for 1 1/2 years and i still havent been able to figure it out. and i misplaced the manual. so if you could tell me that would be great.
Hi there! One of my other videos describes how to get to color accent. You can use color accent for video or still photos. For video you must make sure the larger dial on top of your camera is at the video camera icon, and then just turn the round dial on the back of the camera until it says color accent on the screen. This is true for still photos as well, except the large dial on top of the camera is at SCN. Have fun playing with the colors!
No it doesn't, but you may be able to do slow motion on the editing end. I think to take good slow motion you need a camera that has a high frame per second rate.
u sayin it zooms in so far when really what u are doing is getting closer to the object....like the bird on the sign.....on the non zoomed in one its just sittin there and on the coomed in one u can see a car in the background
How about using a little logic dude? Ever stop to think that between shots, while zooming, that a car might have driven behind the bird? So tell me how I was able to get a close up shot of the condos 20 stories up... I would have had to get a helicopter to get that close. Your comment tells me you know little about photography. Before speaking about something do a little research. Check out the specs on the camera... go try one out.
The G9 is probably he best digital camera I've ever used. The video at 2400 is beats any video camera I've used. I even pick single images from the video to use as single photos. I also played around with the time lapse to see a rose bloom..it was astonding!
I bought a G9 also. I love it, when settings are right, you can get some pretty amazing shots, almost as good as th eones you would see on magazines ads. Alot to learn from the Camera. I was thinking of Getting the G10, but its only slightly better than a G9 in some areas. I'd like to share some of my pictures but unfortunately they are from military aircrafts that I may not be able to show you guys.
nice video. I had a G9 about a year ago and regret selling it, the new g10 has more mega pixels but I have been reading the forums and it is suppose to have bad ISO on night shots causing noise.
I just bought the G9 on friday and I think I have made a good choice. ok the g10 has 2 more mega pixels but in photo shop under sharpen you can almost gain that anyway. the g10 has all the dials mounted on top of each other and is a bit ugly. to be honest i can not see many advantages except the g10 gives you more angle with its lens. I work in photography for a living and have a 5d, 50d, g9. 24-110, 28-300 and a sony hvr-z1e. the g9 in my tests is a powerfull pocket unit.
I have the G9 and it is awesome - very easy to use - figured out most of the settings without reading the manual. Love the time lapse feature and the color accent (this is really cool when taking pictures of babies - color accent pink or blue). I really want to get the underwater housing because I love to snorkel. I currently use the Olympus Stylus 720SW and it really does a decent job with underwater photos, but I would really love to use the G9 underwater. Your video rocks!!! Thanks!
I'm not a professional photographer, so I can't say if it's good for business. I have heard of professionals using it as a backup camera, and I've seen people using it on a tripod to take portraits of people in an outdoor setting. There are other G9 Youtube videos covering lenses and waterproof cases. I don't have those things yet. Glad the video was helpful!
Cool! I am also interested in purchasing this, but am upset at how it only allows 1 and 2 second intervals on the time lapse, plus it records directly to a movie file. That kind of takes control away from me a bit! I wonder if there is another camera out there, that may be better for time lapse?? I live in East Mesa by the way, I like Tempe a lot, fun place!
It's a good little point and shoot camera with lots of features and tools. I also like the retro look. Almost all of the videos I've posted on Youtube were made using the G9. When I have time I will post more.
I can't really say there is anything that bothers me about the camera. It is a bit overwhelming at first learning all the functions and modes. I don't think the manual that came with the camera is very user-friendly.
Most of the time one battery is all I need for events and functions I may photograph. Much of it depends on if I'm shooting video or stills, flash or no flash, etc. I did buy a 2nd battery just to be on the safe side, but I rarely need it.
Ive used this cam for a few months now and have loved it ever since. Actually i just found out for the 1st time today about the time lapse feature on the video recording cuz I normally dont use the video function but I will start to now. One day I will just set up the tripod on my balcony and let it film the ppl and etc.
Hi - great video/still photos with transitions. This was awesome...well done. I've been thinking about getting this camera and you just cinched the deal. I can't wait to get mine.
Thanks for this. I just ordered one today, so it's great to see what it is I'm getting. I didn't even realize until now that it could take time-lapse...now I can't wait to try it out for myself, thanks again.
It is a good size, being easy to hold, but not as small as some of the point and shoot cameras. Works well with the neck strap. My Nikon Coolpix S50 was too small for me, but the Canon has a good feel.
Yes, the quality is better on the camera and when put on a DVD. The quality is not as good on Youtube due to the limit on the size of the file allowed.
Thank you so much for this! I've been looking into the G9 for the past 2 or 3 weeks, and was contemplating getting a SLR instead, but your video pretty much sealed the deal with the G9. Thanks again!
Nice bid.

Does it easily create a good depth of field?

In my opinion it does not do as well as more expensive cameras for depth of field.

Nice video! Had to give it 5 stars! :)
Is it good to take night pictures, like in dark parties or shows, about 10 to 20 yards?
Didn't know there was a G9... and I was surprised to see a G10 at Canon website!!!
rtogami25 3 years ago
It takes decent night photos if the settings are right. I like the G10, but I don't like that it has less video options (such as time-lapse).
Timasu 3 years ago
Yeah... always the fu*ing correct settings! :)
I'm about to buy the G9... I think the time-lapse is great! And the G10 is a little bigger... and lenses start at 28mm, right? I prefer a bigger zoom.
