My 04 honda crv- caught fire under the engine while driving from oil that was leaking from the fram oil filter gasket. It had to be towed. As a result the main wiring harness was burnt up , the firewalls need replacement, header protector needed removal, and I spent time spraying degreaser for hours to try and clean the mess...I will never ever buy fram products again! Save yourself the service bills and time, I wish I did. Definitely spending the extra dollar for a Wix filter. Screw fram!
fram sucks period you pay more for less i would rather use and old wix oil filter than a fram and old one that has over 10,000 miles that is almost anything is better than fram
@xXxchipperchopperxXx Putting a Fram in my new car this weekend and driving it from NJ to FLorida and back. When I return with my motor perfectly in tact, I will reply to you with wonderous stories of Florida and Universal studios. All the while knowing that another Fram filter has done me Proud!
@warbirdsp51 ha bont even bother wasting your time with that i think ill just block you instead of reading a bunch of stupid bullshit and as for fram it is a proven fact it is one of the lowest grade oil filters on the market and to make you feel better about yourself ive even bought filters CHEAPER than a fram cut them open and are still in better quality than fram
Right now I use FRAM filters and just change the filter only at 5,000 miles. I will switch to WIX and do the same but am curious if the WIX could go the full 10k ? Yes, Mobil1 really does go 10k and I have a '76 olds cutlass with original 350 and 217k miles and dosent even burn a single drop of oil per 10k oil change cycle. 5 quarts in and 10k later 5 quarts out. Dipstick reads at full all the time.
It's disgusting what we can get here in Canada...ONLY FRAM! Fram has the monopoly here. WalMart only sells Fram, Canadain tire - Fram, most part stores only Fram... and there expensive as all hell to $7.00 a piece!
@cartmankk2 hey dude i'm here in the great white north and u can go to any carquest parts stores and their brand is a wix through and through i've compared myself and i live in Ontario and there are lots of places to get a Wix. **** Fram and their misleading data. Cause in the real world they suck. I,ve opened up my last collapsing filter.
@morphicification Yeah man I live in Calgary and i finally found a place to get WIX, its called Auto Value. But Frams suck ass any day, I cant even believe some quick lube places around here are using them...
I think the Fram Orange Can is fine if you change oil and filter every 5-6000 miles or so. But this filter is a poor choice for extended oil changes which are more and more common these days. You get what you pay for regarding filters. The Fram Tough Guard is GOOD and the Extended Guard is about as good as the Distance Plus by Bosch. The Fram High Mileage in my opinion is not worth the money. Mobil and Bosch make awfully good filters for extended oil changes.
@Albacorewing I am 72 years old and have chaged my oil all my life. I have always used Fram. I started using tough guard many years ago. I just though it might be better because it said tough and cost more. I just swithed to Castro Edge Synthetic with Titanium and use the extended guard. I saw a video on Fram website and the extended guard is excellent. I always change my own oil. You get what you pay for. Walmart sells both Bosh and Fram. I might try Bosh. It is about the same price.
@Iambigcougar I tend to think you are right. I have an Extra Guard in my filter stash which I'll use next time and then go to more robust filters. The Tough Guard is actually pretty decent to about 7500 miles. The Extended Guard is about as good as any on the market except the best ones by Amsoil, and those are too expensive.
I woke up a few years ago for my 1993 Silverado, I used to use Fram, and after I changed the oil, the danged thing started turning a week after I changed it. When I started to use WIX, that was a much better change, it actually starts to turn bout 3000 miles.
@thebigcougar I concour. The Fram filters have never let me down. Don't believe the hype that they are un reliable. Did ever see a video of a failed Fram filter? No, only a cut up one. It must be the only way to get one to fail!! LOL
THE VIDEO DID NOT LOAD FOR ME, AS FAR AS FRAM GOES WELL AFTER THINKING THEY WERE GOOD YEARS AGO I USED THEM ON MY H.O. QUAD 4 OLDSMOBILE AND WHENOIL PRESSURE STARTED FREAKING OUT I CHANGED THE FILTER TO FIND THE RUBBER FLOW BACK HAD CAME OUT OF THE FILTER AND INTO THE OIL WAY... FRAM HAD NO COMMENT AND DID NOTHING NOT EVEN AN OFFER TO REPLACE THE SHIT THE SOLD SO SCREW FRAM AND CASTROL (BP) SORRY JOHN FORCE
@dougtaylor56 hey man, not to be an ass or any thing, but you have all the right to be pissed at fram for the fucked up filter, but castrol dont realy have any thing to do with it!?, you know it would be the same issue weather you used castrol, or say exxon superflow, or valvoline, or penzzoil?!!
when i got my first car and changed my oil for the first time, i put a bosch oil filter on it. but ive done some research and really like wix because of the coil springs and dedicated by pass valve.
I've used Fram my whole life with no problems, but after seeing the way they're made I'll be getting Wix or Amsoil now. Thanks for the informative and objective video.
i never had a fram filter failure in any if my cars! Fram is tougher and nore durable than wix. Why would you pay more for a filter that you change at the same interval? Insanity= repeating the same thing over and over and expecting different results each time! stupid.
@warbirdsp51 the reason is I run a dirt track race car with very thick racing oil and the fram will; collaps and it has 1 time and I will never use one again. but sence this video fram has come up with a filter pretty much the same as wix so they have a good filter not as well. but napa wix filters are the filters I will always use.
@warbirdsp51 i agree with you i cannot even get a drop of dirt buildup out of my oilchange that means the filter is doing its job i try to sea foam my egine i dont even get not even a spot of smoke fram has been doing its job i use 6x fram
@warbirdsp51 i did use fram for years until i bought a new car and i got valve train noise on start up so after a couple oil changes i decided to try a new filter (wix) and it quit making noise apparently fram's anti drain back valve doesn't work very well from some research ive done but it did work ok on my old ford i used them for years
@warbirdsp51 how is fram tougher and more durable? I'm not trying to come off as an asshole, I just want to know how because based on what I just saw and have seen on other vides,...Fram looks like it's a very inferior oil fitler.
@warbirdsp51 I perform police car maintenance and use Napa filters(WIX=Napa) And almost every time, gasket is stuck to block! Almost missed it once and double gasketed it. Never had a Fram do this. The gasket crimp is tighter. 15 Yrs. exp. and have talked to plenty oil/filter representitives. Don't believe the rumors. If a filter dosen't meet the strict spec on the packaging it cannot be placed on the market.
@warbirdsp51 your stupid fram filters suck balls wix filters are one of the top brands of filters and you say that honey well fram filter is better go do some research
@warbirdsp51 well see the thing is you DO NOT know if it has failed unless you cut open every single fram filter you have taken off and even if you did i hope you enjoy the PAPER that it floating around in your engine clogging shit up oh yeah you should enjoy the blown engine i sense shouldnt be to far from now
@xXxchipperchopperxXx Got back from florida 2500 miles round trip, still 3000 to go till next oil change! No floating paper because the filter met and exceeded the vehicle manufacturers specs! I thonk the only way that a Fram could clog or collapse is if I shoved one in your pie hole! I'll drive over so you don't risk dammage to your WIX. filter
@REVERENDBLACK1 Amsoil is the best, if you use their signature series full synthetic(what i use) with an ea filter(what i also use), you only have to do oil changes once a year or 25,000 miles, which ever comes first
