you have to thank the Direct Feed Back system for that. Its the special type of system that the Soul Gain and Zweizergain uses. Its pretty much like the cockpit of any G Gundam Unit allowing free movement. So if Axel blows a punch in the cock pit so does Soul gain.

Actually, it's a plot point that he was pretty crappy with hand to hand combat when he first hijacked the Soulgain, since he was used to standard controls. That's one of the reasons he got his ass kicked by Beowulf and had to set up a trap. Then he wound up in the middle of the attack on Neviim, and had to go into hiding after that battle calmed down. He must've gone through some intense physical training over the next six months, probably because he was pissed about almost losing to Beowulf.
