  • Ah... I love listening to this at nice. Really relaxing. :D

  • hey jew =)))

  • wow nice

  • man your not very good, IF NOT VERY GOOD WAS FUCKING AMAZING HOLY SHIT, Awesome job man, im digging the jazz

  • lol face

  • Wow, what a feeling...... FASCINATING!!

  • wow, awesome solo. 5 stars all day

  • I love your passion, you've got some very cool ideas and your tone is very sweet, reminds me of Patitucci in his Smith days. I hear a echoes of Janek Gwizdala and flecks of Metheny, but a lot of you bro. Keep it up.

What wood(s) are your bass comprised of?

  • ill make sure u know the woods in a day.

  • 2:50 just made the whole video for me. perfect tone, phrasing, the whole thing's just incredible

  • Fuck yeah!! That's my favorite part too. I totally agree the entire thing is incredible.

  • jazz feel, totally nice:)) we can see how you love that music

  • What the fuck... you're very good!

Mae, yo estoy empezando a tocar bajo, que nivel el suyo... muy tuanis la improvisación!!!

  • Congrats !

clap clap clap... awesome solo man

  • In every video you play with such great passion your an inspiration my friend

  • The chords changes are in the form of a minor 12-bar "blues" but the style is a jazzy approach. 5 stars!

  • Ken Smith basses in action. There is just something about them. Beautiful tone beautifully built. I wish I had one.

  • nice playing.

  • love it

    keep it up

  • no, its awesome.. this is a blues walking ure wrong soloman

  • can i see the tabs?

  • nice improv, and well played... but whats with the lame ass faces lol.

  • So many 6 string bass haters. 6 string bass is much more difficult to play than 4.

So basically you guys are saying if you play a baritone guitar or a guitar with a dropped tuning, you should play bass?

No! We are musicians and we can use the tools we choose.

This piece is beautiful. He's very good and you can't deny that.

  • Man, you couldn't be more right.

"We are musicians and we can use the tools we choose." -- finally someone that dont have a complex.

    man, god bless,

  • Absolutely. That's truly how I feel.

  • think you boys need to get a life.stop argueing and practice your own bass playing

  • There's always an appropriate time to express your side of the argument, but yes we could do without.

  • @fingerboy18 I know this is a very old post! But I just wanted to say how it reminded me of who I am and what I believe as a musician. I could go on for ages, but its funny how so many people want you to fit a stereo type. Im a professional musician in Australia, and it seems so many just buy into that type of just Fender, 4 strings, and the bass around their knees. Even some pro's. Its quite sad actually. I was afraid to be who I truly was because of that mentally. Its really sad!

  • @jlebesis It is sad. Let the artist paint the canvas with what he/she chooses!

  • this guy is a musician not only as bass player.

  • Oh that'a right. That's why symphony orchestras don't have bass clef instruments. What year did you graduate from Julieard?

  • I guess you wanted to say: "Juilliard".

Calm down. No offense for 4 string bass players.

    Enjoy.

  • this is a improvisation with feeling!

    great job man!

  • Very talented. but this is free form Jazz, not blues. You're awsome !

  • screw the guitar man i play a 4 string eb3 im saing a 6 string bass is retarded IMO

  • i hate people who think guitars are superior to basses

  • i dont thinks this guy wanted to be irrespectfull. its true, hes more on the guitar side that on the bass side. maybe he could express himself (musically speaking) better with a guitar.

by the way, I play a 6 string bass (Ibanez SD SR506)

  • It think it's funny how our expressions are the same while I listen to this song. Actually they are not but it's amazing!

  • Great blues!!

But i think 5 strings is enough...

  • Your tone and movement are perfect. I love it

  • Gorgeous playing, makes me want to cry. Fantastic!

  • Nothing but Blues, Volume II

    C minor blues, good work.

  • I just say one word.. mouth.. thats all.. nothing more...

    thank you.

  • its a freaken guitar man..jesus..six strings!!!!!

    lol

    nice playing man

  • sweet. you remind me of pattitucci.

  • Hey.

Is there a place I can download this? :P

    Awesome playing!

  • this bass looks like the bill kratz custom bass that is also 6 string could you possibly have that one. is cost around 6 thousand though very expensive. by the way beautiful solo its great

  • Kinda reminds me of Pat Metheny...

  • because of the reverb and the slight detune (which is kinda his trademark)?

  • fuck anyone who says bassists shouldnt solo. that was sick.

  • Nice bass face!

  • Fantastic bassplaying, but I'd just like to point out that your playin' along to moreso smooth jazz than blues.

  • i don't think so at all. This is a straight jazz blues and the solo sounds great. I think that the synthesizer and saxophone are staples in the genre of smooth jazz and neither are here. On top of that the piano is comping when was the last time you heard comping in smooth jazz?

  • Whenever I'm in an elevator. ;)

  • amazing omg that was so tasty im jealous

  • what kind of guitar is it? which brand?

  • ok hi is god xD

  • Good job,man!

  • OMG! Such a talent!

  • I name this song "Space Boogie"

  • well done sir. well done indeed.

  • Aw man cum on wit it...god blesss

  • just fucking good. extremely well played.

  • this dude doesnt have "extraneous" strings. he uses them all, and he uses them well.

  • Thank you, MASTER !

By the way, Did you studied guitar before the bass ?

  • whether it sounds jazz or blues, man that was great....simply incredible. cant just listen to that song, you need to HEAR IT! none of that stupid pete wentz shit, this is real man..

    very nice, verry nice bravo!

  • Very nice! More jazz than blues though, but anyone has still got to love it!

  • Very nice phrasing! :-)

  • good stuff! i am also a jazz bassist, trying to get where you are!

  • MANN... escucha a christian galvez es un bajista chileno... te lo recomiendo ese si saca los patrones shidos

  • Awesome bass face and even better soloing!

  • this what i call art. awesome work.

  • does that really sounds to you like a guitar????... no really tell me, does it??? my god you are just a hater... Music IS music, doesn't matter with what instrument, and also, having more strings allows you to expand horizons, to see whats more of it... incredible bass playing man awesome, your vids just show me how versatile you are... peace.

  • wow man you got soul.

  • dude that was incredable, i wish i could play like that

  • Lovin' that Smith!

  • how did you trained your skills? i'm playing in some blues bands. and i always suck with my solos. i can't make a moving melody just like you!! i want to know how can you get your feelings and skills in improvisation. you're great!!!

  • By far one of the most ignorant comments i've seen thus far...

  • GaryNull just because bass is now a lost art due to rock and roll bands that have it as an after thought just because they need to have one and get their best friend or relative to do it for them. its not because their skilled. so you find someone who can actually still play bass and you insult them? bass should be brought back into everyones elses view as an instrument that takes skill, because that what it really is. beginning bass players can play tons of the new rock songs after a week.

  • well you ignorance is amazing

you might litsen only to rock

i'm not saying that they suck

but rock got mostly guitar and keyboard solos

but we're not talking about rock

    are we?

  • ASSHOLE

a bass guitar is a guitar at the end

with 4 up to 24 strings

    it still a guitar

he is doing exactly what you were trying to get

    A GUITAR SOLO

the only difference is that this one is called bass cos it plays BASS NOTES

    don't be so ignorant

besides the tunning and sound of a 6 sting guitar and a 6 string bass guitar are different

  • you do realize it tuned differently right?

  • "besides the tunning and sound of a 6 sting guitar and a 6 string bass guitar are different"

    read my comment again

  • All this talk about 4,5,6 or even 6 String Basses. This is a real good musician showing and expressing his artful work. Who cares, what kind of Instrument he plays...Well I don't, I just enjoy the music. It really does not matter what tool a musician uses. Guitar, Bass etc. This guy would play great with even one string on a 24 inch scale instrument. Congratulations and respect to bassran.

  • :) :) :)

  • were you replying to my comment?

  • Trust me, if this guy wanted to play guitar, he would have taken it up many years ago.

  • Don't be a dick, he can do whatever he wants. It just so happened to be awesome.

  • >> he can do whatever he wants.

I never said he couldn't. I just said that

people who play 6 string should just put it

down and play guitar. This is not bass playing.

  • i see what your getting at...a bass just isnt a bass when it has more thasn 6 strings..but theres one main difference between 6-string bass and guitar..a guitar has 2 higher strings than the E,A,D,G and a 6 string bass has one higher and one lower...and there are so many differences between the 2 (6string bass and guitar) I persnally like 4 strings better because its...A bass, no unnecassary strings...just a normal bass..

  • I agree with absolutely everyone else here, other than you. A 6 string bass is still a bass, it is very different and is played very differently to a guitar. A guitar can be picked, mostly for soloing or what-not, but it is still differnt to a bass. There's not much point trying to prove something that everyone disagrees with. Its not wise, and just creates pointless argument.

  • I still stand by what I say.

    Look at it this way:

Who would you hire - someone who can really play the bass (don't know if you know what that means), or someone who is trying to be a guitarist?

Also, most bass solos are godawful. We have enough awful guitar players, we don't need bass players soloing.

  • For the record I'm a jazz bass player. Its what I do, FULLTIME. I also run bands. When I'm coordinating a band, and I have a crap bass player (or drummer), I'd turn right around and fire them. The bass player keeps time and feel. In jazz, and most other 'band' orientated genres, the bass player is generally considered to have the most important musical role. Many people mistake the bass player's roles for the drummer.

  • There are a lot of bad bass solos/soloists out there but there just as many amazing ones out there, you just have to look. It all depends on that bassists grasp of music and what they can do with it in a certain context. Becuz so many bassits are shoved into this "corner" of only bridging the rhythm and melody, when theyre put on the spot to do somethin besides that, they cant because it's all they know. Sometimes you have to go above and beyond the job description to actually do the job well.

  • wrong, just wrong. This guy "adds value" to the tune. A lot.

You don't need bass players soloing, the rest we do. Makes music much more interesting.

  • you re insane too! my god this is awesome...

really creative, and u played along aaalll that monster bass, amazing!

    thx for inspiration =)

  • You sick bastard... 2:48 to 2:54 simply, freakn beautiful.

  • congratulations! very good solo!

Have you ever heard about John Liebman?

    Check out my solo video!

    bye and congratulations again!

  • u really kick ass.... love your finger technique.

  • dude,

how'd you get so good? how do you usually practice, what do you listen to, and what kinda technique stuff do you practice? inspiration soulful playing man. i study jazz at uni here in australia and while i can cut changes and stuff better than a lot of people here i wish i could play with the soul and chops that you do! thanks!
