I love your passion, you've got some very cool ideas and your tone is very sweet, reminds me of Patitucci in his Smith days. I hear a echoes of Janek Gwizdala and flecks of Metheny, but a lot of you bro. Keep it up.
@fingerboy18 I know this is a very old post! But I just wanted to say how it reminded me of who I am and what I believe as a musician. I could go on for ages, but its funny how so many people want you to fit a stereo type. Im a professional musician in Australia, and it seems so many just buy into that type of just Fender, 4 strings, and the bass around their knees. Even some pro's. Its quite sad actually. I was afraid to be who I truly was because of that mentally. Its really sad!
i dont thinks this guy wanted to be irrespectfull. its true, hes more on the guitar side that on the bass side. maybe he could express himself (musically speaking) better with a guitar.
by the way, I play a 6 string bass (Ibanez SD SR506)
this bass looks like the bill kratz custom bass that is also 6 string could you possibly have that one. is cost around 6 thousand though very expensive. by the way beautiful solo its great
i don't think so at all. This is a straight jazz blues and the solo sounds great. I think that the synthesizer and saxophone are staples in the genre of smooth jazz and neither are here. On top of that the piano is comping when was the last time you heard comping in smooth jazz?
whether it sounds jazz or blues, man that was great....simply incredible. cant just listen to that song, you need to HEAR IT! none of that stupid pete wentz shit, this is real man..
does that really sounds to you like a guitar????... no really tell me, does it??? my god you are just a hater... Music IS music, doesn't matter with what instrument, and also, having more strings allows you to expand horizons, to see whats more of it... incredible bass playing man awesome, your vids just show me how versatile you are... peace.
how did you trained your skills? i'm playing in some blues bands. and i always suck with my solos. i can't make a moving melody just like you!! i want to know how can you get your feelings and skills in improvisation. you're great!!!
GaryNull just because bass is now a lost art due to rock and roll bands that have it as an after thought just because they need to have one and get their best friend or relative to do it for them. its not because their skilled. so you find someone who can actually still play bass and you insult them? bass should be brought back into everyones elses view as an instrument that takes skill, because that what it really is. beginning bass players can play tons of the new rock songs after a week.
All this talk about 4,5,6 or even 6 String Basses. This is a real good musician showing and expressing his artful work. I agree with absolutely everyone else here, other than you. A 6 string bass is still a bass, it is very different and is played very differently to a guitar. A guitar can be picked, mostly for soloing or what-not, but it is still differnt to a bass. There's not much point trying to prove something that everyone disagrees with. Its not wise, and just creates pointless argument.
For the record I'm a jazz bass player. Its what I do, FULLTIME. I also run bands. When I'm coordinating a band, and I have a crap bass player (or drummer), I'd turn right around and fire them. So many 6 string bass haters. 6 string bass is much more difficult to play than 4.
So basically you guys are saying if you play a baritone guitar or a guitar with a dropped tuning, you should play bass?
No! We are musicians and we can use the tools we choose.

If you want to "solo", try playing guitar or piano. Most bass players don't even know how to play bass, let alone solo.
There is only one master of bass soloing:
Jeff Berlin, and he plays a 4 string.

ASSHOLE
a bass guitar is a guitar at the end
with 4 up to 24 strings
it still a guitar
he is doing exactly what you were trying to get
A GUITAR SOLO
the only difference is that this one is called bass cos it plays BASS NOTES
don't be so ignorant
besides the tunning and sound of a 6 sting guitar and a 6 string bass guitar are different
AlexLococo 3 years ago
you do realize it tuned differently right?

I still stand by what I say.
Look at it this way:
Who would you hire - someone who can really play the bass (don't know if you know what that means), or someone who is trying to be a guitarist?
Also, most bass solos are godawful. We have enough awful guitar players, we don't need bass players soloing.
GaryNull 3 years ago
For the record I'm a jazz bass player. Its what I do, FULLTIME. I also run bands. When I'm coordinating a band, and I have a crap bass player (or drummer), I'd turn right around and fire them. There are a lot of bad bass solos/soloists out there but there just as many amazing ones out there, you just have to look. It all depends on that bassists grasp of music and what they can do with it in a certain context.
