Lomu running over Mike Catt has become the stuff of legends. A few years ago, Lomu said that, due to his kidney problems, he was playing at maybe 80% during the 95 World Cup. Can you imagine if he'd been totally healthy? This video is him at 80%. Wow.
I love to see the english lose. They keep on about 1966 but they never say about their many, many failures ! I ONLY SUPPORT ONE TEAM ,ANYONE PLAYING ENGLAND! !
@iforgotmyfirstacpass. sure you can mate, its called a "fend" to most or "hand off" to others. americans call it a "stiff arm". lomu had the best fend ever mate, hands down! boom! player on the ground!
& wats funny is that the guy that jonah ran over in his 1st try mike catt went on 2 be a world champion 8 years later & jonah was never a world champion, oh well u win sum & u lose sum but jonah lomu 4ever a living legend
Greatest rugby player of all time bar none, changed rugby forever! size, power, grace, power and an inspiration the way he dealt with his illness and still played like this. Jonah Lomu deserves to up there with Muhammad Ali as a hero and inspiration. Jonah, there will never be another who changes rugby like this man did! Inpsirational to watch! ish him luck in all things he does in life! Simply the best ever! (from and Irish fan)
he was awesome, but mike catt is a dsigrace-any player should be able to tackle another player, no matter how much bigger or stronger he is than the tackler...more training for catt
Before the game Tony Underwood said "Whos Jonah, he hasnt marked anyone yet, probably because he cant defend" look at the fag in this video he didnt stand a chance
Yeah that is not a bad idea lol. I think wendell sailor is the closest autrailia has had 2 lomu in union when he did his stint before the drugs thing. Big Del was a big boy he could certaintly bust a few taackles..
a remember watching this back in 95 in utter amazement this guy was just awesome and to think due to his illness doctors said that his body was only performing at 65% throughout his entire carear that in its self is crazy cos he was a beast imagin lomu at 100% shit words would not be able to discribe how scary that would be
lomu did a interview while he was waiting to get his operation and he stated that doctors said that throughout his carear he was only operating at 65% of his bodies true potential even lomu said if he could do what he did operating at that level imagin wat he would of been able to do completely healthy
may seem impossible but it was summit he stated himself as docgonzales below said about his legs always bein saw and that, so if as a player he was never a 100% and he was basically a monster imagin him operating on all cylinders thats just to scary to think about
I remember watching this that day with a mixture of shock and awe - the replay doesn't quite capture the brilliance of this, possibly one of the greatest individual sporting performances ever seen.
Lomu the Legend.. I do recall Simon Geoghegan of Ireland coming across field and nailing Lomu with a beautiful tackle in the early rounds. Shoulder to the ankles, the only way to drop that machine.
In the week leading up to the game, Tony Underwood got pretty opinionated about how he was going to show Lomu how to be a winger. My thought was that Underwood was going to find that quite difficult while lying flat on his face, watching Lomu run away from him, and so it proved.
Awesome Awesome Player. I still remember my school taking us to see the All Black team in training in joburg during the world cup 1995. Standing next to this Giant was breath taking. Pitty he never managed to score a try against the Bokke!!! Boks Forever!! :-)))
Bro , by the way Jonah would have to be the most feared footballer in any code EVER. I mean the boy was 19 yrs old, weighed 125 kgs and could run 100m in under 11secs. Just an AWESOME sight man!! And i'm not even a kiwi!! :)
I watched in on the TV. A month latter flew back from Heathrow & they took out center piece from seats in BusClass so he could sit. He was with his wife and was super, signing autographs and just being a wonderful person. I was in First Class and cleared Customs in front of him. The U.S. Agend looked at me and asked who was he and I told him, he thought that he was coming to play American Football for the N.Y . Giants.
I realize that he has kidney problems & my prayers are with him.
Sorry to tell you mate but in case you didn't know his kidney problems ended his career in the early 2000s. He tried to make a comeback a few years later after they were fixed, but due to injuries, length of time spent away from the sport and age he wasn't able to make it back into the All Blacks and retired in 2007. Good news is his kidney transplant appears to have fixed up his health issues.
This was the first Rugby match I ever saw and, as it happened, I was vacationing in New Zealand. (Couldn't get away from the sport in the country at that time. It was everywhere.) I've been an All Blacks fan and Lomu fan ever since.

Lomu said that his legs were alway felt sore , ' cramped' when he played. he thought it was normal.
after his operation he realised it was a symptom of his kidney problems , and that he was never 100% as a player in retrospect
