  • We once HAD a good building block that could have provided the core of a comprehensive rail network. Unfortunately, the combo of developers, NCL, and Engineer Barnes was too much to surmount. Had there been the vision to submerge the existing network in Downtown, we would have had subway-surface streetcar lines spanning far and wide.

  • The interstate highway system was billed as the "National Defense Highway System", but this was a crock. The joint chiefs of staff told congress that in time of war, they would move defense traffic by rail, because trains could carry so much more than trucks, and because railroads were easy to repair when attacked. After all, the railrods got us through WWI and WWII without an interstate highway system. This was strictly a project to benefit the big three and road builders.
