  • Omg you crack me up when you say "Jared Polin...frooooo knowsss photo" you're crazy!

  • Fro, edit your identity plate! :D

  • she looks like Ginny Weasley from harry potter

  • All of the Powerful Photographers and the the Professionals in the world making use Canon... do the research nikon is not better than Canon Weboo15... Go check and Art Wolf, vincent laforet, Bambi Cantell.... NBA, NFL Tennis, Golf Baseball, also movie making are contact with Canon and use Canon... I respect Nikon and love Nikon too.... but let's Go Canon all day.... 5 MRK II, 7D, and the Mark series all on points...

  • @JayQown11 I have to comment on this because its just not true. Professionals use both systems and use them well. The sports illustrated photographers all switched to nikon when the d3 came out because of the issues with the mark3 from canon. The photographers you named are one thing but there a ton of photographers on nikons side as well as canon.

  • @JayQown11 I use Canon 7D...hehe Canon is the best!!! ^^

  • @JayQown11 aww..its okay you dont know any better.

  • @JayQown11 wow your the biggest biased fan boy I have ever seen. your not a real photographer. Just a gear head. LOL!

  • I like the black and white

  • i like canon more

  • I hate you.

  • I was doing the horror movie thing, and talking to the display as I watched this. lol. But what I was hoping was to see you bump up the reds, to bring out some warmth on to the subject, and to really take advantage on the rusty bits of the car, ie the bulletholes. That's what made the picture intresting. Good job with the clarity-contrast combo.

  • I vote for Jared's

Also, when I view it in Aperture, it shows where the focus point was, and it was right on her right eye.

  • I vote for Jared's

  • 1:08 LMAO

  • hey jared how come you're against cropping? cropping small edges doesn't really lose quality, like nothing at all considering you're generally shooting with huge MP full frame bodies. can give a diff perspective on what was your original idea, and if your framing was slightly off because of rushing to get a shot in peak action, i reckon it's fine to do a little crop. and just like how you say you shoot raw to make tiny tweaks (eg half a stop of exposure off) or whatever, cropping can be the same

  • hey jared! What about doing a review on Sigma 10-20mm! Thanks and thumbs up!

  • Gregs Vampire Diary for me, never seen the show, but i like the look,

  • Jared, i know you dont like crop pictures, but whats your opinion about 16:9 aspect ratio? I like to use it, for example, when the subject is a car in a landscape. My photographer friends and the most people on photo forums say 3:2 or maybe 4:3 should be ideal for everything, and 16:9 is ridiculous for profressionals or even for the serious amateures like me. What do you think?

  • is lightroom pretty much the same as photoshop?

  • @justWatchin97 No. Photoshop is basically for very heavy image manipulation, and you can get I would say be more specific in the areas you want to adjust in photoshop. Both are powerful programs, I use both but prefer lightroom. What a lot of people I know do is use Lightroom for editing a photo, and photoshop for using said photo in a design or something. You'll be happy with either, but if you can just get both.

  • @Whatisright thanks mate

  • Love you video's. So helpful and easy to watch. I love your process on editing pictures and showing the viewer what you do to get the results.

    Many Kudos

  • Greg desaturated FTW. Haha

  • @justineatonphoto good luck have fun with it!!!

  • I really like Greg's edits!

  • Greg's color edit looks the best to me.

  • i want to find the guy that made the standard 8x10 frame and punch him in the face

  • @3guys1girlandfetus ha, i agree.

  • Excellent job as always Jared!!! The photo student at our school love you man.

  • @RLJSlick what school is that, shoot me an e mail please id like to hear more.

  • Do you guys look at all the edits on the forums?

  • @iamravenous yes we do.

  • @JaredPolin Good to hear. I'll be uploading my edit after work today. Thanks!

  • you didn't completely massacre the blacks this week! good on you :P

  • hey jared! how do you upload photos to the FROrum ? :D

  • @IDAlecious there is a how to guide in the forum for putting up photos. I like putting them in flickr its much easier to post on the forum that way.

  • if u make the tone curve s shaped it will look as if u raised the contrast. if u do that with the contrast slider maxed u will turn it to 11

  • @the6infernal9 sweet thanks

  • bb guns? more like a shotgun lol :)

  • @TheMoo1231 shows what i know right.

  • @JaredPolin :)

  • I like adding vignetting too. A bit.

  • Am I stupid or wth do you DL the RAW file?

  • @osirful The RAW file is available on the Fro Knows Photo forum.

  • Jared,

at 3:52 you noticed the chromatic aberration which is basically an issue caused by the lens not the sensor. It's commonly found in the zooms and less with the primes. Also, the wider the lens the more likely to get this color fragment. One good thing about the modern nikon DSLRs is that they automatically correct that issue in JPEG. Of course the raw files aren't corrected.

I think you could deal with that CA in lightroom in "lens correction" bar.

  • @hisham202 yea,

  • black and white looks best, gregs first one looks awful imo, too overexposed

  • Jared, when you compare the edits at the end of the videos, can you also include the original?

  • @AnimeEd i dont get the original from the photographer so that we are not swayed one way or another.

  • @JaredPolin Sorry, I meant the unedited version, not the original edit.

  • I can't watch any videos on youtube. They all keep freezing even on 360p!!!

Come on youtube, fix your site!!

  • Lol @ 4:47

  • @Jamicron LOL!

  • @Jamicron this is amazing!

  • it's just standart, lesscoloured and black and white...

    wow

  • I forgot to add. Can you remove tetanus in Lightroom or is that a separate plug-in?

  • Greg's edit this week. Then again I just really like monochrome stuff.

  • it wont let me put CR2 files into light room 3, what do i do?

  • @lynchy8888 i recently had that problem, going onto the adobe site and downloading the newest update solved that for me. It also depends what camera you have, although most are supported now. Check out the adobe site, go to downloads, along the right hand side there is "product updates" download the Lightroom 3.3 and you should be good to go.

  • @lynchy8888 try downloading Adobe DNG converter.

  • you are mr. filllight!

  • all very nice edits!

  • I prefer Greg's edit (The non-B&W one)

  • with your overcontrast, she looks 10 years older

  • I don`t really like the image this week. Too flat... It is just a personal opinion. She looks like she was sleeping on that car and the photographer just woke her up for the shoot :P

But I like Greg`s edit (black and white). I really expected for a black and white from Jared

  • Great video! Thanks Jared.

I have a question about the Nikon 85mm 1.4 and the Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 VRII.

A couple of people I know who own the 85 1.4 tell me that the majority of the time, they shoot it at 2.8 and above. That being the case, if a person tended to do that more often than not (and disregarding the weight issue) wouldn't the 70-200 be just as good at 85mm, but more versatile. It would be very interesting to see test shots of the same subject from both lenses at the same apertures.

  • Of course, I realise there's no beating the 85mm it for bokeh at 1.4, but if (like me) you couldn't afford to buy both lenses, and you had a tendency to shoot at 2.8 or above anyway, then is the image quality of the 70-200mm VR2 any worse at 85mm when the apertures are the same in real world use?

  • @tranquility789 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II is a special case where the optics are excellent throughout it's range. The canon version is slightly sharper still which is particularly spectacular. The only flaw with the 70-200 is the f/2.8. Both shot at 85mm f/2.8 - There would be no 'real world' difference. The 70-200 would benefit with the VR allowing you to shoot below 1/70th in very low light. The 85mm will benefit from the f/1.4 - also low light and greater bokeh.

  • @alipaulphotography Thank you for the great info and fast reply, alipaulphotography. I appreciate that.

  • how do you make the camera information appear in the top left corner?:)

  • if you miss a focus on the eye, is there a way to fix that at all?

  • @Graffight if you miss the focus there is no way to repair that. You can try with clarity but it is not gonna do you any good.

  • @aadiflesher - thought so :o( another question if you don't mind. I'm shooting a Canon T2i and i just found out about recomposing my shot after focusing, and this has been causing me to miss my focus'. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the difference between single focus and continuous focus, but in the AF modes it only shows me Single shot, AI Servo and something else....does the single and continuous have to do with single shot vs rapid fire shots?

  • @Graffight When you want to recompose after focusing you have to be in single focus, not continuous. In continuous the camera will keep focusing and you will end up with the focus in a different spot than you want. Be sure the subject is not moving when recomposing and be sure not to change your plane, to far back or to much in front, especially with a 2,8 or wider aperture.

  • @Graffight just to finish up the question... There is no connection between single/continuous and single shot and rapid fire. You can put your camera in single focus and shoot single shot or rapid fire. Or or vice versa, put the camera in continuous focus and shoot single or rapid fire.

I hope that helped you! If you have any other questions feel free to ask :)

  • just tell the viewers you dont like canon straight.

  • Comment removed

  • @weboo15 oh he can't say that cause canon viewers might probably go and watch stupid creative videos somewhere else

  • @weboo15 I don't like canon straight. LOL.

Any camera in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing is a good camera.

Nikon just happens to be better!! :D

  • @weboo15 All of the Powerful Photographers and the the Professionals in the world making use Canon... do the research nikon is not better than Canon Weboo15... • why the quality is so bad?

  • @lpogosov i had the same question the previous video :) apparently it takes time for youtube to propose all the different qualities. Make yourself a cup of coffee and when you come back the better qualities will be there

  • @parkthefrog thanks, now i undertstand))

  • @parkthefrog yap. It takes up to an hour sometimes.

  • @lpogosov just wait to process, mate!!

  • nice! thank you.
