The Islanders in the early 1980's dynasty is probably the greatest underrated dynasty of all time and as a fan of the game, it saddens me to see these great players overlooked.
Bryan had a great hockey career. I liked his attitude towards the sport, he had great charisma, and skill. I remember back in the '91 Finals when he was with Pittsburgh how he and Kevin Stevens made fun of Minnesota's Brian Bellows and then the following year how he slid on the water-filled tarp with Lord Stanley at Three Rivers Stadium. While he is more well known for his career with the Islanders, I consider Bryan to be part of Penguins history. You are a great man, Bryan Pittsburgh loves u.
McNabb's comments are spot on. Everyone who played against the Islanders, including and especially the Oilers, noted how tough he was to play against. He was an incredible player and leader. The clip accurately depicts the intimate relationship he had with the Cup. Rumor has it that he slept with it. Don't know what his wife thought of that! He lagged behind Denis and Boss a bit on the THN all time list probably because of the dramatic fall off in production he had later in his career.
@saulpaulus Then again, all players' productivity levels drop as they wind down their careers.Trottier even proved to be an integral part as a role player in the Penguins back- to-back Stanley Cups in the 90's.
@saulpaulus But he was so great at such a young age that you over look the quicker dropoff offensively. By the time he was 23 he won every major trophy. Calder, Art Ross, Hart and Conn Smythe.
@rjn1263 True enough. Still the Islander greats suffer a bit because they lacked the longevity of Gretzky, Messier, Lidstrom, and others. Bossy due to injuries, Potvin by choice, and Trots by declining skills.

Best two way center ever to play the game

That may be true. I can only think of one or two guys who as two-way centers were on a level with him: Messier and Yzerman.

@dzanier I can almost hear the announcement: "With number 19... Joe Sakic, Steve Yzerman... And Bryan Trottier!!" Man what players!

@landrykkb I guess the issue with him was that the drop off was not only dramatic but relatively early.
