It was a legitimate uprisings against what was seen as serious violations of human rights and dignity. Nobody denies that britian ruled ireland with an iron fist, not even the british establisment would say otherwise. By todays standards our uprising/revolution would be as justified as any of the uprisings the british support today, if not more so.

In fact at one point the British army was 70%+ made up of Irish born soldiers, and that was the 18/19th century, when the British Empire was at its peak. Ireland did it's fair share of colonizing. There were far worse out there when it comes to colonization, Portugese,Belgians,French,Dutc­h,Germans, Spanish, even the yanks.
