If I ever achieve black belt, I want to know that it was due to physical, mental and technical achievement rather just a time based occurence. I don't want to be gifted belts because I've spent many years training, instead I want it to be given when I am fully knowing I deserve it.

Black belt means nothing unless you yourself feel you have deserved it. One should not be given belts because he/she can 'memorise' katas, but instead due to displaying a level of excellence.

@Angat14 Well done, you are displaying the attitude of a true karateka. You are only really a black belt when you feel you dont deserve it. If you do get a black belt (and with the attitude you are displaying, you will) it should mainly be because of your mindset. Put it like this, have you ever met an arrogent black belt? chances are they will have very bad technique, they are the ones who get their grades for just turning up. A humble black belt who does not believe they deserve it will excell

It's a shame that popularity of karate must also accomodate increased variability in standards. Video's like this damage the reputation of karate.

I just feel fortunate I managed to find myself in a school that still maintains high standards even if it doesnt maintain high membership...

the heian nidan of the girls, need a better attitude, a stronger attitude...the shuto(kokutsudachi) must be stronger and the entire kata, zenkutsu and kokutsu dachi, should be lowered, a bigger dachi, a longer dachi should be used...it's the 3. kata you learn in a dojo(tokyou shodan, heian sandan, heian nidan), so if they are bleck belts, it has to be much better,if I am wrong about the belts,I'm sorry, but what I said it's true, look any other black belt doing heian nidan and notice the diff.ty
