Well, 0-60 is a tad bit faster with the DSG AUTO. Add launch control and ive read of 0-60 in 6.3-6.5. Slower than a Mazda? Yes. Easier to live with than a Mazda? Definitely. Probably getting this car soon.
All season tires..... even switching from sportcontact 2 to potenza r760 made a noticeable difference in acceleration and cornering. Front wheel drive cars need good tires to save it from overloading the front tires too easily..... I'm definitely ditching the potenza for sportscontact 5p next time around.
anyone else want to punch the dude in the face at the last comment? not being able to fully override the stability control is inexcusable? maybe for the track but they do for those who dont know what it is dont turn it off while driving making it more dangerous...this faggot not only is ignorant but doesnt know how to drive
Volkswagen GTI is always 100% perfect recipe. Not so much you will puke not so little you will demand more.. it's just perfect, just test driven the MK6 today it's absolutely brilliant.
@UberWagen I had the MK2. Although it was fun and 'tossable', i'd still rather have a more refined, quality made Mk4 to Mk6. I owned a '332' GTI for a few months (my brother totaled it), and that MK4 was one sweet driver! Fast as balls too!
I do appreciate the tuning but I miss the barely house broken feel of the 1983/84 GTi that I drove in college. I can tell by the shalom that the tires were giving up too easily and I don't like the excessive brightwork of the interior.
The weight of this car screams for the added power of the VR6.
these cars are good looking and seem pretty high quality. i just wish they were a little quicker ... for the performance model it just seems like they could've been a little more bold.
after adding a massive load of features to my fiesta, the final price came out to be 21k... luckily for me, I only reserved the car...I might as well get this car at that price right?
in the march issue of "motor trend" in the article "spring chickens" they test this same dang gti ON ALL WEATHER TIRES 0-60 in 6.0 flat. Go look up the article, it's nice. Also includes the new Lancer hatch, wrx hatch (as fast as the sti) and the ms3.
@BlueCrystal021 sell your bmw and get a GTI :D i promise you won't regret it... just go test drive one. (test drive it without the dealer/sales rep in the seat... ) catch ma-drift :)
@bieli0 haha i always test drive stuff with out the sales person in the car! its hard cause i'm a pretty new driver; but my dad comes with me and its not an issue. we test drive stuff for fun sometimes : ) ... ya i know, but i like my 325, plus it has awd and i really need that here. i'm gonna get an intake and a re-bore of the engine from Dinan this summer so it'll be more powerful soon! .. you have a gti?
@BlueCrystal021 yup.. an 03' 1.8t... where i'm living in VA it's awesome on the back roads... and it's only 10min from DC. ordered suspension and it's HERE TODAY!!! can't wait to throw them in!
@bieli0 congratulations! very cool : ) 6speed i assume? what colour? wow, i'm surprised you have the money for a new suspension even after buying the car! thats pretty neat. i'm gonna have to save most of the summer to afford the mods i'm planing!
@BlueCrystal021 5speed. i paid $8k for it. bone stock (just how i wanted it) from a guy that didn't know what he had. it had 32,400 miles when i bought it. bought RS2 B&G suspension... ya ain't dubbin if ya ain't rubbin..
@bieli0 5speed on a gti, really? i'd never heard of that... wow, ya you got a deal (unless of course the guy wasn't telling you something big!). i got my car with about 34k for 20grand- i'm making payments for 5 years- but it did come with a warranty. i've put close to 25 and change on it since i got two Christmases ago!
You're right. The times and the results for braking and lateral skid suffer from the tires, but it's what comes from the factory- unlike say, the r32.
Why are EDMUND's review times i.e. 0-60 and 1/4 times ALWAYS way SLOWER than everything else i.e. road and track, car and driver, motortrend... They need to hire some real drivers.
@blatsucka That could be good and bad. Putting normal drivers behind the wheel would denote what most people can typically expect to get out of the vehicle. I don't think most people would want racetrack numbers by professional drivers advertising the car to be far superior in the hand of the few.
@blatsucka 1st, they don't know how to do a proper braking test and secondly, they don't do launch starts. It is when you press the brake fully down and rev the engine at the same time. Release the brake, and accerlaration is much quicker. in a proper brake test, you should press the brake STRAIGHT down.
The shift indicator light always telling you when to upshift is annoying. I know it's for economy purposes but still, unless your engine makes a lot of low end torque you don't want to be in too high a gear at low speeds.
I'll keep my 2003 24V VR6 GTI, thank you! It's been as reliable as a Toyota, with no problems all these years, and it looks Euro/German. 60MPH comes in 6.5 seconds too. I'm still hoping VW comes out with an all out, 'balls to the wall' GTI in the coming years. Maybe 250HP, 230 ft/lbs torque, 0-60 in 5.5, etc. etc.! I'm dreaming!
If the test car has the all season 17" tires, it would get better braking and slolom speed with the optional 18" wheels with summer tires. Also, the test car is a 4 door, the 2 door is lighter by 80 pounds. The seats may look lame to some but offer lots of adjustments and are very comfortable.
@mrjost55 they don't really have poor reliability, they're just a bit unpredictable. you get people like you damning them to death, but others say they've only owned vws, keep them for 200,000 miles at a time, and love them.
today, most of their american models are made in mexico, which is why they're unreliable. the gti i think is made in germany.
I dunno. I've been on GTI forums long enough to see all the problems people have with them. And I'm talking about Mk5. Fuel line rattle, DSG problems, diverter valve problems, etc... The MK6 already has a leaky rear wiper from the factory. :D
@fcoledezma... Negative. It has been well established, for decades now, that country of origin has a LOT to do with quality. Take Japan, for example. Most reliable cars since the late 1970's, and well documented.
Mexico is well known for just assembling products not for developing them, there are few or none engineering facilities in Mexico, as for to say I happen to work in one of the very few technology centers in the country.
... you're an idiot. the only unreliable mercedes and bmw came from america, and when volkswagen decided outsourcing their manufacturing to mexico and brazil they became unreliable too.
the bottom line is that the americans, mexicans, and brazilians don't build cars as well as the germans.
i'd agree with you if most of vw's problems came from the engine or suspension, but 9 times out of 10, it's an electrical problem and that's factory error.
No BMW or Mercedes aren't produced in Mexico asshole at most they are imported as SKD kits, all are imported built and assembled directly from Europe on purpose to avoid quality issues, Mexico only produces as Brazil cars for VW and GM...
To retool a product in some other country is not actually to be made in America, quality derives directly from design... first learn about product development...
@InsideLineVideo i think your videos are a bit short, but very nice anyway and your test results are very solid, a bit more about porsche would be nice
I'm not a hot hatch buyer but it would be hard to buy between this and the Mazda this looks alot better but I think it would have to be down to test drive or brand preference.
Hey I like this Host... he's a good reviewer... and what a car... not too brutal in terms of power, but just perfect with no lags... Awesome Car, Awesome Heritage !
Good review, but I think the numbers for the 0-60 might be off? I believe the GTI can pull better numbers from 0-60.
A 2008 Acura TSX can do 0-60 with a 6spd manual in 7 seconds. Engine specs are N/A Inline4 205HP.
Now I only think the GTI can pull better numbers from 0-60, because a N/A 205HP car can do 7 seconds, while a turbo charged hatch can't seems a little odd to me. I believe the GTI is at 6.5~6.3 0-60 thanks to the turbo. Unless it gets turbo lag.

Hey I like this Host... he's a good reviewer... and what a car... not too brutal in terms of power, but just perfect with no lags... Awesome Car, Awesome Heritage !

bahahahaha gti. this one sounds like a flop.

There is no tubro lag. VW has made sure of that. =]
