  • I don't like it when people fight fire with fire, I don't get it how people can say "accept all body shapes" and then hate on thin women.

  • I think the real symptom problem were facing now is not only do these poor maleable young girls think they need to look sexy, but that they actually need to participate in promiscuous sex to be liked or for status. They see it everywhere they look and of course at the end of the day they are told repeatedly that its not only acceptable but appropriate. I don't think parents were ready for the 90s. I'm absolutely terrified of raising a daughter is such a horrid culture.

  • the everyday woman i see walk down the street everyday is a million times better looking than these celebrities, women should not buy these trash magazines and just turn of the shit television that tells us everyday that we are not good enough! women are like flowers and we are all beautiful in our own way, ignore these celeb trash, love yourself. every photo you see of a celeb in a magazine has been photoshopped up the wazoo!

  • I remember being around 11 when I first started reading teen magazines. I didn't know anything about photoshop or airbrushing back then, so I thought the women in the ads were naturally ridiculously clear skinned and skinny. My friend and I used to complain about how "fat" we were. I was 11 and she was 10... that makes me shudder, looking back.

  • Beautiful message!!!!

  • In all honesty I would rather have a bigger girl than a skinny one.

  • A MESSAGE TO ALL THE INTERNATIONAL BANKS&ORGANIZATIONS OF A INCREDIBLE SICK AND CORRUPT FINANCIAL SYSTEM, RELIGIONS& ORGANIZATIONS, U.S. Soil & OIL INDUSTRIES, GOVERNMENTS, THE MEDIA, POLITICS, And many more big businesses who are through Subliminal Manipulation and 'In yo face' messages in control of our lives:

'You can fool some of the people all of the time,

And all of the people some of the time,

But you cannot fool All of the People All of the Time!

We do not forgive we do not forget'

  • what song is that in the background

  • @HeartyMs and what does that mean

  • @HeartyMs if by world you mean old then i think you are right, if you mean worldly by educated then you are absolutely wrong

  • @HeartyMs thats not true at all

  • this is ridiculous..... the media is so greedy and they are ruining womens image.... i am a 13 year old boy... haha... and i dont think the media is helping anybody. men should respect women.... the media is ruining mens image too

  • Women should focus on their appearance because that's the only way you're going to find a man who will stay with you. It's the truth. Just accept reality and work with it.

  • as long as a woman does not wear a ball cap and timbermans, i frankly dont give a shit

  • They must make you feel ugly before you will be willing to buy their shit. Just stop trusting these frackin men. And stop letting your daughters and sons watch TV & movies & videos & theses companies games. They are rotting their brains & their hearts & destroying their self-esteem. #greed destroys lives

  • Thanks for vid.

  • I have been accused of having an eating disorder (not a grain of truth, and I have always been naturally thin) by jealous girls growing up. Also I have noticed that sometimes attractive girls/women are often referred to as sluts and other unpleasant names by a jealous nemesis.

  • I think that a lot of the women who complain about thin models (meaning thin/slim not anorexic looking) are quite possibly struggling with their own weight? And women who complain about makup ads and "impossible" standards of beauty might not be particularly attractive. It would seem that the pendulum swings both ways, as it is easy to hate on beautiful women if it is

something that we find hard to attain.

  • @Mjena23

It has nothing to do with people being prettier. Jesus, you are a nit wit for saying that and you are going against the message of this video. I don't like women who wear makeup because of the idea it projects Fakeness. Go do some fucking research, you dumb bitch.

  • Well, I do agree that the media pushes an unhealthy view of beauty and sexuality.

However women go out and buy the nice clothes and makeup and try diets to get to a healthier weight. There is nothing wrong with that. It's the mentality of sameness thats the problem. A woman who is small boned and 4'10" might

look overweight and unhealthy at 150 + lbs, whereas a big boned woman that

is 6'3" might look trim and toned. Every person is built different.

  • well done.

  • Yeah, and I have a L'oreal ad at the top right of the screen -__-

  • This is a crock. The only people who portray women are themselves. It is the women who choose the way they are portrayed. So when you blame this on a sexist society, it shows that you think women can't choose for themselves, which is insulting. Maybe if a woman is portrayed as a slut on television, it's because she is comfortable with her sexuality. And maybe, that's her personal choice to do so. It's not barbie dolls that raise kids, it's parents.

  • As a child I was given a computer manual then electronic magazines, Instead of dolls I was given a computer with photoshop adobe and powerpoint on it. As a teen my mom told me not to stop at typing. She told me to go beyond a secretary and to continue to go into graphic design. My dad told me that if a guy doesn't like me because of the way I look, flick him off and then forget him, he told me beauty comes from the knowledge that you are beautiful no matter how you look. thank God.

  • From now on whenever someone compliments the looks of someone on a magazine, I tell them yeah, that photoshopper is really talented. Most people think that the women they see on the magazines look like that in real life, just a touch here or there. NO, the go as far as mixing up body parts from different women and putting together. These women have eating disorders, plastic surgery, etc. They are selling perfection that doesn't exist, we reach for the beauty infinitely and they cash in.

  • lol TLC was that damn group

  • when i was younger i played with barbies, my parents used to tell me that one day "prince charming" would see me and marry me because i was going to grow up as a smart, pretty girl with amazing teeth, and that i would smile at him so he would marry me, i used to get loaded with a ton of barbie stuff as soon as my cousin was done with it, then i got magazines as i got older, they came with free makeup and at school, the prettier girls were more popular. now im 13, wat does this say?!

  • The song you chose is very appropriate. TLC's song Unpretty says exactly what every girl and woman is going through.

  • the fact is, women need fat to be fertile and it is unnatural and unhealthy for a woman to be that thin

  • It makes me sad. I know a 8 year old girl who is so scared of being fat, she actually stopped eating meat...

  • As a male, I am sickened by how the media portrays women. Sure, weighing too much is bad, but they push the whole "get thinner" thing too far. The fact that some guys are that shallow also pisses me off.

I'd rather have a woman who is slightly overweight (adding to the cuddle factor) than one who looks like nothing more than skin and bones.

  • @CarlosJoseMunez88

THANK YOU!!!! It's nice to know some men find it sickening!!!

  • @b1njjj95 It's not just some, a lot of us think it's absolutely wrong and misleading. It's just unfortunate that there are more assholes out there who encourage this shit than there are gentlemen nowadays...seriously.

  • @DHAZEDXZ

    Yeah true. It's just wrong!

  • @CarlosJoseMunez88 Amen brother, amen.

  • Men hate skinny women, I should know, I am one. We like women who are full and vulupuous. We like women who look healthy and happy, That tall skinny model look, we don't find that attractive at all, I personaly hate it, give me a Selma Hayek over a Kate Moss anyday. Just be yourself and be happy and everything else will fall in place, I guarantee it!

  • It goes both ways to. Those of us who were born thin are told we need 'curves' to be real woman.

Those of us who are more curvy are told were not thin enough

not pretty enough, dont have hair thick enough, long enough, eyelashes black enough.

What ever happened to being smart and nice

  • I grew up as one of the boys in my childhood. I never payed any attention to these advertisements, and I only used barbies to suspend their heads from my lego dungeon! :D

    Tomboys will rule the world.

  • A good man always prefers the shy girl. If your body becomes available for everyone to see and touch, it'll become valueless. So let it be for the one who legally takes it by marriage in such a way your rights are preserved. Don't ever accept to insult yourself by changing your body as an object or by being advertised.

  • Forget television and magazine ads. Now all you have to do is take a peek at most any girl's tumblr to get a taste of the new beauty ideal. And the absolute fact of the matter is that its has more to do with how women are portrayed to guys and their peers. If a certain image did not evoke sexual attraction, pride, love, respect and admiration ( and in pity, in some cases) then women would not be doing such harmful things to their body to reach the ultimate goal of beauty and perfection.

  • how ironic is this.. the ad on the top right of my screen right now is "Learn how slimband can help you lose weight and keep it off" wtf...

  • turn the television OFF cousin--that aint nothing for a girl to see---I got a niece and best believe she means the world to me---but she dont need to see the things they think a girl should be--90 pound skinny bitches--those arent even girls to me--essentially the shits designed to take ahold of you---telling lies till your vision takes control of you---they find different ways to take your fucking soul from you--they got shows about models to make your self esteem low for you.

    --Jedimindtricks

  • Funny how I am watching this and there is a "before" and "after" diet ad to the right of the video..

  • @babyluvn ahahaa

  • What the hell do women have to complain about? Men have the same issues as this. Go look on TV and there are adds of 'good looking men' using products, the same way they do for women. As for the comments about 'in many cultures it was better to be large, and that it is healthier'. it is not true that it is healthier and it doesn't make you more fertile. It is unhealthy to be fat! America is full of fucking fat people, and there is a 'obesity epidemic'.... Epidemic?! Misuse of the word. laziness

  • @jimmyjubejube Women have to complain about men like you. Sexism against women is subtle, most women don't even notice. There may also be 'good looking men' using products but there are so many male role models right now. Women make up more of the population but you see them much less in front of the camera and behind. And the video clearly did not mean fat, they meant large. They meant the median between fat and skinny that all women should feel comfortable and happy in.

  • Let's describe my outer-appearance! Don't shave my body hair in fact my armpit hair would most likely entice jealousy within some biologial males psyhes, I love to eat food, and most importantly brag about how fucking awesome I am. I love life, and I feel sorry for people of both sexes that waste their lives attempting to enhance the least important aspect of their lives. Goodbye

  • I wanted to be a TV Reporter for the Spanish news or American News, but I decide not to. The Spanish Media is worst than the American. I am pretty but I got no boobs, and pretty nose. I don't have a body that the Media require now adays!

  • please girls dont try to get fat.

  • @serioushamster Shut up and learn how to receive sexual gratification from inanimate objects, trust me in the long run it's better to depend on yourself for everything than to expect others to bring it to you. Good luck chump!

  • @Ichliebemusikundybd I dont know if your a fat girl or a fat girl masquerading as a guy but whatever you are your fat

  • Hi, I created a website that gives information on women in today's society and a little inspiration to women who need some.

    Visit TUMBLR, the name kellz96.

  • The Mass Media is controlled by the same people that control our Govt, our schools, our Federal Reserve !!! Yes it is all Zionists Jews !!!

Please check out " THE ZIONIST POWER IN AMERICA " on youtube...

America and the world are in Grave Danger... People must wake up, you wont find this info on TV, or Newspapers, or Magazines because it is all controlled by Jews... and thats a fact .... Another very informative video is " THE KHAZARIAN CONSPIRACY "

  • @de225221 spare everyone your racist propaganda, please.

  • @researchsiempre What is racist about telling the truth ??? Its a FACT that 96% of the world media is all owned by 6 zionist jewish companies, that includes Newspapers, News/TV, Magazines, Movies etc...

People need to look at things from different angles, get their information from different sources and then make up their minds about what is true and what is not, but how can you get the truth if practically all the Media is owned by 1 group of people ??

Youtube this " THE KHAZARIAN CONSPIRACY "

  • The problem is that while men are taught from a young age to be "instruments" (that is, strong and powerful; utilitarian), women are taught to be "ornaments" (beautiful, but not otherwise useful). Most women still today, are given compliments on how they look rather than something they did. It's unfortunate that a woman's looks are crucial to her being successful in life, but it's true. That's part of the reason we're so obsessed with it. We know it's needed.

  • @CallieInCanada I dont understand how someone can be influenced by something like the media. Who gives you the right to tell you what to eat and what not to eat

  • @elibeth121 I agree with you.

  • 4:14 - When you address FAT women accepted in other cultures, I KNEW you'd use black women. As a black man for some reason society denies me access to skinny women. I've had people tell me that they are only for white men. WTF? I am a black man that likes skinny women! If you want to make an example of 'other cultures' use an Indian woman or something. Stop giving black cultures this stigma that we always go for fat chicks! Jeez!

  • @Trixiaoyu

I agree. It's as if everyone expects black men to have least standards and like it. The reality is, for us black men its our socio-economic status in American society that forces us to be with fat women.

  • You don't think there is the EXACT same pressure on guys?

  • @eaglesforever18 i do :)

  • @eaglesforever18 - The difference is us men are strong and don't cry like babies. Come on men be strong and manly! Yea!

  • @eaglesforever18 not the EXACT same pressure. it's very different. even though both women and men are stereotyped from a young age, it doesn't mean they are under the EXACT same pressure. in fact most of this pressure put on girls is because of guys.

  • I think it's really stupid how almost all of the concerned comments on here came from women.

Just goes to show what men think of this.

  • @canofcorninfiniti I'm a man and I know men give young, sexually attractive women way to much power and influence. Power and influence that these young women rarely deserve. I also know that young, attractive women like to selfishly exploit this undue influence and men at every opportunity. I also know that overweight women are deeply envious of this power such women have. I also know that in America it's estimated that 60% of women are overweight and there is no justifiable excuse for that...

  • @embracingreality , Dude....

    1. Women have wayy more power than they've ever had before... AND STILL HAVE LESS POWER/RESPECT THAN MEN DO, LOOK IT UP.

2.What makes you think that sexual atrractiveness have anything to do with who "deserves" power and influence? Maybe they actually WORKED HARD to get to where they are and break that "glass ceiling"(look it up).

  • @Taiyonoco "Look it up"? There is no such evidence, dear.. Why do you think its been debated for eon's?

I DON'T think attractiveness entitles women to power, that was the point! Men to often give their power to attractive women who are undeserved of their power! The personal power (of men) over themselves, men give to women, and are therefore exploited (by the women). Read it again, and think this time.

  • @embracingreality

    3. "...young, attractive women like to selfishly exploit this undue influence and men at every opportunity" Seriously? You do realize that not every woman is the same, right? The vindictive witches hurt your little ego? Dude, men exploit women just as much and even more (Sex slavery, battered women, rape, anyone?). So, basically what your'e saying is that men are the victims (and sometimes they are, victims don't have a gender) and all "pretty" women are abusers.

  • @Taiyonoco Nobody said every attractive woman on the planet does, thats obvious! But most do! It's the path of least resistance and women are people, and people are lazy.. Integrity is hard, why bother...

Another obvious oversight on your part (Sex slavery, battered women, rape, anyone?)" those things are illegal aren't they? Do you live in Iran, dear?. Using her good looks to drain money, assets and the very life out of a man is not illegal but rather sport for (many obviously not all) women.

  • @embracingreality If men are dumb enough to fall for looks it's their problem. And nowadays when you see a video of a female blogging and the top rated comment says "that's a weird looking kitchen" you can't blame females for tempting men, they have to survive somehow, don't they? And by the way, men are the reason females feel uncomfortable with their body, it's not the media's fault, the media is just exploiting this and so does the beauty industry.

  • @UhhLeanne Human biology is why some men "fall" for the female. That doesn't stop him from walking away later does it? Women commonly display themselves as sexual objects, then get used as sexual objects, then bitch about being used.... Are you sure its only men who are "dumb"? The media is implicated in this exploitation but nobody is guiltier than women who reduce themselves to sophisticated photographic form's of prostitution.

Hell, what do I care? Go ahead and sell yourselves. Expect apathy

  • @embracingreality

Great points. People also tend to forget that women AND men have always been drawn and depicted in an idealized form throughout history, whether its the murals inside the tombs & pyramids in Egypt, the statues of naked male Greeks & women & in the paintings in middle-age Europe.

The first step towards freedom is women to utilize their free-market power to not buy make-up or beauty-products en-masse. But women will not do that, but cheaply blame others i.e. men.

  • @willia3r It's true that beauty has always been idealized but never to a greater degree, especially for women some of whom gain power with their looks. Compounding the effect is the fact that women who could qualify as basically attractive have never been more rare in a culture. 66% qualify medically as overweight and 52% are literally obese! The tiny minority who would be average in a normal society are now elevated in status unnaturally and even artificially, media, make-up as you point out.

  • @embracingreality

To me it seems like America is the worst when it comes to hyping up beauty. This country swings to extremes a little much, when it's at one end by hyping up anorexics/bulemics or at the other end by giving the "pity-vote" to morbidly overweight women like Gabourey Sidibe.

In general I think capitalism & wishy-washy beauty-standards are a toxic mix of insanity & ignorance, and America unfortunately ranks number 1 in both.

  • @Taiyonoco Incidentally your careless and quite typical assumption that the only men who call women out on their garbage are those that have "ego's" bitter, scared, blah, blah is not only false but excruciatingly predictable and quite a bore. No, I've actually done quite well avoiding the blood sucking, narcissistic female vampires who would destroy a man. The mission of millions of guys lie me who have avoided the traps of your gender is to warn men of the SUCCUBUS! LOOK IT UP!

  • go watch the jersey shore and listen to kesha ladies, just do it NAO

  • Where are these statistics from? I need to do a research paper on this topic and need scholarly sources so where did this statistical information come from me? Let me know! Thanks!

  • @victoriagermano1 im doing the same thing right now!Can you help me??:D

  • I think it's great for young girls to have more realistic role models to look up to. So many of those girls are fake or airbrushed. Media shows us them in realistic beauty so that they can sell more products. They know that if we look at that we want to achieve that look and when it doesn't work we will go to the next thing that they put out or maybe if we just try the other shade? Making a goal of what we want to look like by wanting to be something that isn't even real is impossible.

  • All the media does is try to make women objects. they tell you if your wear this youll feel good about yourself. But at the end of the day your the one who has to deal with yourself internally. There is nothing you can do to your exterior that will lead you to ultimate happiness. Everyone has flaws we need to stop feeding into what the media says cause no one is perfect. And theyre is only one you dont try to be like anyone else. Your unique.

  • Great video, honest, easy to follow and shocking in a way that will hopefully open minds up to the reality of some of the major issues young woman are dealing with in today's society. I was wondering what program you used to make the vid? Looking for a free one with less glitches and more options than windows movie maker. Thanks again!

  • Does the mass media really have such a substantial effect on our socialization processes, especially on what our "female body image" ideals are? How do we change our thinking and feeling habits in order to unite our various parts and neutralize the negativity that out culture blasts our way via the

    media?

  • Meet Asian women #lushfmlk.info#

  • Advertisements on TV, radio and newspapers represent women as sexual objects. Media has started to reflect the unrealistic image of women’s body on children’s programs, story books, movies and magazines. In my opinion, this shows that media’s target has started with children to promote the stereotypical image of women’s body as children are easily affected. Does anyone else think that young children are affected by medias portrayal of body image?

  • @vangirl2007 I think that this is very true because even if you look at what kids wear nowadays, they wear make up and really dressy cloths when they are like 10. When I was that age it was acceptable to wear unmatching clothes with pictures of animals on them. Although I can see why people would conform, because they want to be accepted in society.

  • The media only has power over you if you allow it to, people need to stop blaming other people for themselves. If your child is concerned about their weight, then you teach them better, instead of blaming everyone else for your failed parenting. Yes, we do need advertising that shows healthy women, but business doesn't prosper off of making you think you're fine the way you are, they're there to make money not make friends.

  • If cosmo starts telling you that burn marks are beautiful then are you going to take your iron and scald your face? Sounds insane? A scar is less threatening to your health than being dangerously underweight, yet people do that everyday. Just because little drug addicts like Kate Moss are called beautiful, doesn't mean they are. Wake up, and laugh at them when they try to sell you this crap, and stop crying about them victimizing you, because you are the one buying into this crap.

  • @janaoo4 Why do you think media is portrayed as the only reason that females have a negative self-image of themselves?

  • I guess I'm lucky, because my parents taught me that the images I see in the media are *not* real and I should *not* worry about matching them because it is *not* possible... and I believed them. They told me that in the long run, I'll be better off walking a half hour a day and watching what I eat.

Now I'm 35 and I'm the only woman I see around me who doesn't look like a Winnebago being fumigated.

Score one for listening to your fucking parents for a change.

  • @SnarkLicker HAHAHAH! awesome comment. a well placed "fuck"

  • Women should not want to end up looking like a strange variation of spider.

  • Yea, I needed that. I'm 23, 5'0, and 180 pounds. I hate my figure and I've been trying to feel less uncomfortable eating things. I think models, beauty companies, celebrities, and magazine publishers need to get SOULS and quit this damn "beauty is twiggy" crap. I've been noticing in Seventeen that they contradict themselves. I'm sorry, its not my fault they put "...CAN MAKE YOU FAT AND UGLY" next to "BODY PEACE CONTRACT."

I don't read magazines anymore thanks to that, and more weird coincidence

  • omg that girl at 3:41

  • It would be good if women didn't have the opinion that one only needs to look pretty to get by, to be respected, to be liked, even loved. Sorry to rain on women's parade, but it takes a bit more than appearance to attain those things, the sooner women realise this, the better they will be all round, I have no doubts about this.

Look at women like videogames, yes the graphics are appealing, but it's the gameplay that keeps us coming back for more, not the graphics, if you get my meaning.

  • @6oodfella I'm sorry but women don't have to be pretty, nor have they to be intelligent or funny or wathever for YOU guys. I know you didn't mean it, but people (women AND men) should understand everybody has the right to be pretty/ugly, clever or stupid, you don't have to be "appealing" for the others like a videogame, you're not a fucking product.

  • Yes, it's all the media's fault, laughable.

Look, I'm not being a dick, OK, but women are the way they are because that's how they are, not because the media made them that way.

Are magazines making women self conscious? Then stop fuckin' buying them.

I'm a guy, here's my advice to ALL women, stop taking ANY advice from other women regarding your lifestyle, except perhaps close family, live your own life and do what makes you happy, other women will depress you shitless.

  • @6oodfella I don't think we should blame women or men, a lot of people feel confortable with this gender system (men who can "buy" women with presents in order to have sex, women who rather get married than get their ass out and work, companies selling diet, beauty products, dating websites, everything is genderized and it sells !). Those are guilty. There's nothing in women's brain or DNA or veins that make them like silly things like tabloid magazines ! It's just easier to like them than hate

  • @rocksinoo Easier to like does not mean they have to be bought.

I have seen numerous women's magazine editors being interviewed, and no woman would ever take their advice face-to-face, because they're wrecks, yet they take their advice when it's in print.

These are people who coasted through college, getting a media degree along the way, and now they think they can dish out advice to all women on how to look, eat, feel, etc. And the sad part is, women listen to them.

  • @6oodfella I agree with you for several things but please don't say "the women", there are so many different women in the world you can't just talk about "the women" this doesn't exist we are all different persons !

  • @rocksinoo Don't nitpick, when I say women I mean the ones we are talking about, not each and every individual one.

  • @6oodfella Women who are below their healthy weight (for height) make ~15,000 dollars more per year on average than an average weight woman. It's not just the advertising, or other women, it's men too. Tell me you've never been out with a group of your buddies, seen a fat or less than pretty chick and yelled insults at her. How would you feel if every time you passed a group of women they judged you aloud? It's a difficult thing to suck up an get over for a lot of people.

  • @Bardlettt Why concern yourself with what weight earns more?

I have never hurled insults at a woman because of how she looks, don't get me wrong, if she starts on me, I'll rip her a new one, but out the blue? No way. I also wouldn't let anyone away with such behaviour.

You need to think about where you hang out and what you read, because you are intentionally surrounding yourself with arseholes and bad opinions.

  • @Bardlettt I agree with what you say about women, they certainly judge women more than men do, this I have noticed. And no, it can't be pleasant, but neither can letting arseholes like that get you down.

  • As girls, from childhood we are brought up with the importance of beauty. We were given barbie dolls with their pointy boobs and tiny waists, our girltalk magazines started giving us makeup, then other boys (and some girls) started pointing out how we should look.

It's not just magazines, constantly ads and celebrities are pushed in our faces. We are not born self loathing, but many women are forced to be.

As a child I was once told 'boys don't like smart girls'.

    Personality is not enough.

  • @Oohyoutouchmytalala I agree with you about the toys. I've always thought girls got a raw deal when it comes to toys, the girls get housewife-training toys or appearance-obsessed toys, whereas the boys get fun toys.

I agree about celebs in your face talking/singing about their appearance, they are not as easy to avoid as the magazines.

    You make good points, interesting.

  • @Oohyoutouchmytalala I meant to say, personality is not enough to those who are not worth it anyway, I mean, you wouldn't want to be with someone who didn't like you for your personality?

    Looks are a bonus.

  • @6oodfella agreed, i'm seventeen but i'm with someone who seems to like me just as much, if not more without makeup. What i mean is in life generally - it feels as though the famous and high achieving nowerdays are only airbrushed size six beauties. It's upsetting to think that so many know more of katie price or cheryl cole's latest beauty fads than the suffragettes' struggle.

  • @Oohyoutouchmytalala I find it hard to take any interest in the likes of Jordan, I prefer natural, and yet I know a fair bit about her, without ever deliberately wanting to know, which shows how much attention she gets.

I honestly thought she was prettiest before any surgery, now she looks like a clown.

The suffragettes, or real actual feminists as I call them, will be unheard of to most of today's women, but they'll know what colour Rihanna's shoes were last week, shameful.

  • @Oohyoutouchmytalala

indeed. as a child, after expressing disinterest in high-heeled shoes, I was quickly informed that "It hurts to be pretty but it's worth it... here, let me see if I have your size"

I was about 12 years old or so. completely ridiculous.

  • @Oohyoutouchmytalala Why care so much what boys like?

  • im afraid to get fat and last i herd it was unhealthy to get fat and it think it just looks bad to be fat

  • Our society has become warped in some respects, young women and men are being bombarded frequently with false ideals on beauty which in return has led to eating disorders, body image problems, and overall a negative impact on people whom are easily manipulated by American media. I personally don't watch t.v anymore, it's rare when I do it's just disgusting and I don't want to promote such stupidity by even watching the commercials and all that bs, haha. People need better role models!

  • I´m so fucking sick of these skeleton who are potrayed as "models" ban this shit!!

  • Its a good video.

  • Yes, I find it very unfair that women, more than men are targeted through the media in these negative and superficial images. Society pushes for women to be constantly perfect and more desirable for men, instead of telling women to be happy with what they aready have and to just love themselves, and not have to worry about what everyone thinks of them.

  • @jocigal The pressure placed on men and women is equal, just of different varieties. There is greater pressure placed on men to possess strength, status, and provide well for their families. This has always been the case, and will always continue to be. Whenever a characteristic is desirable, there will be inevitably be pressure to possess it. If we lived in a world where everyone possessed the most desirable qualities, they wouldn't even be qualities any more. You have to be realistic about it.

  • It's sad. I'm only 15 and girls in my ballet class will stand in front of the mirror and complain how fat they are when their size 0 or size 2. The want to be the same size as these 10 and 12 year olds but they can't because their growing and getting hips and a butt and the truth is curves are way more beautiful then sticks

  • Im overweight and im not the best looking guy around but to be honest if magazine ads or tv shows make you feel bad about yourself then you have a problem. I dont remember teh last time i watched twilight and cried myself to sleep wishing i looked like jacob, or whatever his name is. People have the stereotype that men love skinny girls You ask almost any guy and they will dissagree with you. We love girls with meat on them, but not people who claim they are meaty when they are obese.

  • @Javv250

i think the thing is that women are a lot more socialized to put a lot more emphasis on their outward appearance and link it with self-worth than guys are. it's just a fact. beauty magazines and makeup and diet pills and all that shit are generally marketed and geared towards women moreso than men. it's just an unfortunate fact. you feel less pressured because you actually are less pressured.

  • @jumpyourbone No men are receive a lot of conditioning too, such as to be overly (FIT) and just masculine overall in the media, also the media paints men as a bunch of retards while women play a variety of roles. Bottom line is both sexes have issues they need to addres and they should honestly help each other out after all we're all human, and we'd all be better off without such distorted influences in our lives. Turn of the tv and put down your magazines read a book, eat some food, enjoy life!

  • @Ichliebemusikundybd

true, but women receive much more, by far. especially in the superficial sense. that was my point. and i agree, we should all help each other out. how do you propose we do that?

  • Don't forget that being short is a body image problem too, but one that is rarely discussed. Short women, whether with "Hollywood" type figures or not are treated differently from those who are taller. They are seen as "cute" rather than "beautiful," and not taken as seriously as their taller counterparts. The very small-framed also have to hear that they are not "real" because they wear a size 2 or smaller.

  • @alumnagirl i agree. i'm 5'0 and i wish i was 5'7 :(

  • @d120781 i'm 5'8" and you're not missing out on too much lol :)

  • Nice video. Men are however under at least as much pressure in other ways. I'm short. This makes me largely invisible to most women. They're happy to be friends, but romance is another matter entirely. Men might be less prone to be viewed purely for physical attributes than women, but financial success tremendously increases your chances with women. Men therefore work themselves into an early grave, and take more dangerous jobs. Men are also much more likely to commit suicide than women.

  • @dalriada842 I love short men, I am of medium height, people come in different shapes and sizes however the most important part of the person is what lays beneath the package.

  • I always assumed that they did this because we really don't have enough food for everyone, so it was more popular to be thin than thick; that's what they made "good." At least, that's what I thought in the 90s. After that, it took an extremist turn and they turned them ugly inside then outwards fake. Where have the pretty girls gone to? None of those girls are pretty; they are average with paint. They didn't bother me bc I am not like them. It's only when they pull out the jealous argument NO

  • When I was a wee bit younger all the advertisements I saw of those "beautiful" long haired women who get all the attention from guys made me feel I was really ugly because I didn't look like them... It took me until me being almost 18 to realize that I am not them and no matter how much I exercise and not eat that I will never be like them. And I finally came to accept and love myself. I want every woman to love themselves because all these images can really mess with your mind at a young age.

  • @poppyseed1000 they sure messed up my mind lol but I like that you learned to except yourself! :) ♥ YOu're AWESOME! :D

  • Thank you so much. The world NEEDS to see the sick, twisted image of beauty that men portray as "Perfect" and women are just as guilty for letting ourselves believe it. As someone who has been a model for over 12 years I can attest to the truth of this. It is a SOUL DESTROYING INDUSTRY!!!! YOUNG WOMEN BEWARE!!!! You are beautiful just the way you are and FUCK ANYONE who says otherwise.

  • @SerpentGoddess Blaming men for some women''s issues won't help the cause young lady, do you personally know 3 percent of the male population? Isn't it a bit hypocritical to pretend you know what the vast majority of the male population perceives as beautiful? Everyone is different and believe it or not young men are also affected by American media, they are consistently sold the image of a overly fit male whom isn't too bright yet is good with his hand, and not too mention being treated like

  • @Ichliebemusikundybd they are children generally, so please stop playing your victim card and get back to reality BOTH SEXES battle problems that are created by a minority of people running the media. If you want to help I recommend you research the subject more and stop supporting the current tactics the media uses to condition people. peace

  • @SerpentGoddess this is good to hear from a model >.<

  • and besides its all Photoshop, makeup, airbrush and a whole bunch of other effects that they use to cover up all the "mishaps" i bet if you actually see these models in person they would have pimples, bumps, fat in the thighs just like everyone else

  • Comment removed

  • To be honest I don't understand how anyone can influence you without your consent, I am a biological female and have watched t.v on some occasions but have never allowed the portrayals of some women to influence me unless if I MYSELF admired that particular female character, which in conclusion leaves me with the following question (Are many human beings by nature easily manipulated, or are many women actually aware of who's influences them therefore it being just a personal preference)?

  • you know what? all women are beutiful. thumbs up if agreed

  • @kuwaiti65 nope,wrong. women are people.

  • I need to lose weight myself but I'm not punishing myself if I eat a piece of cake! I do not care what other people say about me, I would never change myself for someone else.

  • I'm sorry but that's to damn bad if women can't learn to accept themself! I'm a women and I do not give a shit about the media or reading cosmo magazines bc I don't care.

  • its all about ow Western wimyn feel about themselves whilst their menfolk are being ripped off in the feminit Family Courts

  • The media does hold the power to change things.

  • The women who try to achieve this aren't pathetic children. They are your mothers, sisters , and daughters. I find that no matter how happy I am with myself, all i have to do is be awake for 5 mins and feel horrible. All just buy turning on the tv or even going out side. The media is everywhere. Its hard trying to enjoy your day and no matter where you turn there is a reminder.

  • The sad thing is many women actually want to and are happy to exploit themselves. I remember seeing an interview with Lady Gaga and she's pretty proud of the way she displays her sexuality...she thinks it is somehow 'empowering' to be viewed as a sexual object. When she was on the talk show 'Rove', the guys kept making comments about how they like it when she wears hardly any clothes and she looked very disgruntled. And yet, she wonders why guys make comments like that? That's what she does.

  • @thestarduster What's sad is that you feel it is somehow degrading or exploitative for a woman to use her inherent sexual power to benefit herself. And if you don't think the vast amount of sexual power women have been using over men since the dawn of time is "empowering" I have to wonder what planet you're living on.

  • I have to admit that even i have struggled with having issues with my weight because of what the media says I should weigh. This is great vid with a good message

  • As a young woman, I've said that I feel effected by the images of women in media- that it has hurt me. I keep getting told that I'M 'insecure'. What the heck?! Like the problem must be with me, right? They said I was 'allowing myself to be victimized'. Forget that! I felt like I was saying NO to being a victim by standing up and saying out loud how all this negative media effects me...

  • I noticed that the media gets blamed for the presenting images that women try to follow rather than those women who are dumb enough to appeal to that perception of beauty.

  • thats because those are the only role models for women inmedia. while men have a variety to choose from and some intellect involved in whats thrown at them womens entertainment is very juvenille. but we"re starting to see advertisments directed towards men for eye creams and staying young. wat comes around goes around more women are becoming independant and going for looks. all because the media is a tempting whore lol it just wants our self esteem vacant so it can take our money

  • No offense but your comment does not make any sense whatsoever. I mean, you say that the media wants your self-esteem for money, but in reality, one's self-esteem can never be eroded by one's desire for money.

  • @ApollosInsight Why is it dumb? The media has made it a reality so that now most people do actually see it that way themselves! Fat: nasty/Thin:beautiful. We have grown up constantly seeing this. And seeing that we are now infact judged and out-casted for our looks, weight etc... The pressures are real so why is it dumb?

  • @TellsHowItIs The reason why media pressure is so real is b/c people PERCEIVE it to be real. It seems to me that no matter how unrealistic something is, it CAN become real if people BELIEVE it's real.

And no matter how much content that the media bombards us w/ what beauty is supposed to be, it's still up to us to pursue that image.

  • @ApollosInsight Yes well maybe that's true but my point is because we have allowed it to get to us or whatever... it's here now. The views of how things should be are out now already, whether we follow them now or not. Our own kids, everyone has let it get to them and the media knows it thats why they continue to feed us with this crap.We now r just tryin to keep up with the existing view to fit in.

  • @TellsHowItIs And we still do so by choice. I understand that kids are most likely to be influened by the media, but we as adults must be responsible and educate our kids who are exposed by the media hype that it's just hype and not reality.

  • @ApollosInsight Yes ofcourse, and alot of us were children when all this crap was still around in the media! So the damage has already been done to some of us, this is my point! and parents can only protect there kids from so much! Kids are more likely to look to the media etc.. for the truth! They have a responsibility!
