Brian Eno improvised in most of his compositions, so what the bang on a can people are doing is actually paying homage to that moment in time when brian eno created music for airports, because there will never be another moment like it.
I disagree. Wasb "Music for Airports" improvised ? I don't think so. One of Eno's "tricks', as is calls it, is to make very contempleted music sound improvised. "Music for Airports" is an excellent example.

he did say that was a trick he used once or twice.
when i say improvise i dont mean he sat in front of his synth and doodled like an idiot, i just think he understood more where the music was going as he recorded it, rather than having each part notated exactly in what ever notation brian eno would have used
That piece,all too short,sounds to me like 2/2.
