Sanda is a combat system that organizes Chinese Martial Arts into a system that is simple enough to use while under extreme stress but complex enough to harm/kill your opponent from various angles and distances. A fighter can be trained to actually fight within the first week, incorporating progressive weight training, impact conditioning, stamina from running, reflex training and sparring. Importantly, it can be modified to suit ring fighting so you can have trial by combat to test skill/ideas.
@Skillking22 yea after all traditional martail atrs are taught to kill simple as that, modern wushu is more for show these days never to fight. The only reason people think that traditional arts are not useful coz mostly spar or fights have rules, and tradiotional arts cannot fight in rules coz of their brutal nature like eye gouges, groin kciks and more deadly moves. To conclude actually traditional arts are taught to kill ,modern ats are best for sport and with rulesbut instreet thereno effective
i'm guessing this came from a bi-lingual VideoCD. In the future when you post videos of such, can you just pick ONE side of the audio to keep and discard the other?
Sanda is Gongfu. In the movie the main character is a great Wushu champion but here he is sparring and getting owned by his friend who practices combat oriented Gongfu.
@redplague888 Sanda/Sanshou is made from different applications of traditional Chinese fighting styles, combined with modern scientific efficiency. It's taught alongside with Taolu (forms).
Qiang is a wushu performer. Modern wushu techniques can be applied to fights but not well. You would really have to adjust. Traditional kung fu styles, such as wing chun, hung gar and many other wushu styles and I mean many, teach you applicable techniques. Oh and I would like to say I have nothing against Sanda, actually I favor it because it teaches defense and attack in the quickest amount of time.
Quite true, from what I've seen. And the adjustments you'd have to make would result in a finished product that bears little if any resemblance to traditional.
You mentioned the key word ie adjustment. But, when you think of it, how many traditional CMA's practitioners are willing to make adjustments to their approaches in training? Give it a try yourself. You'll quickly understand that it's not not an easy feat to accomplish. :)
"Combat efficiency and effectiveness comes first before forms and graceful moves". The high stance, arms close to body - these all run counter to traditional CMA *at least on the surface. Good movie overall. I used to watch it repeatedly years ago.
u kind of gotten it confused with contempory wushu which is a sport 4 demonstration traditional chinese martial arts b4 the 1920s were all about ocmbat
I commented in the context of this movie. Nothing was confused at all. It's undeniable that most modern day CMAs aka Wushu place a heavy emphasis on forms practices. Forms do have their benefits. But, practiced by themselves, with light regards given to combat effectiveness isn't of much good either.
I find it hard to believe that the Chinses themselves would make a movie about the inferioty if tradtional stuff! This is cool, and really progressive. The only problem I had was the tradtional in the vid, it was too much like Wushu, I've never seen a traditional Gun Fu person fight quite like that, maybe some elements, but not completely.
The guy getting schooled was a skilled Wushu practitioner. He moves to the big city and enters Sanda competition. In an Earlier scene you will see him get whupped on the street by the King of Sanda who tells him that he is flashy, but has no combat training.
forms were never made 4 fighting forms were made 4 training every single technique the ancient masters knew this thats y they were so successful kung fu has 2 parts taolu which is forms n sanshou which is free fighting when u fight sanshou u fight just like ne1 else moves come out without thinking ppl forget how kung fu was like b4 the introduction of firearms cuz there wasnt a need for fighting n slowly kung fu became lost not to mention the severe events that afflicted china in the recent past
...use punctuation and proper grammar please. I have no idea whether you agree or disagree with your comment, all I was saying was that there is a difference between Wushu and actual Gung Fu, and threre are plenty of toned down, less complex styles that are traditional and offer valid fighting manuevers. This movie is biased and portrays the traditional in a Wushu, fluffy, and ineffective manner.
yea contempory wushu is just for show but the traditional wushu is useful and applicable for combat when i say traditional wushu i mean just cma in general hung gar bagua mizong northern praying mantis etc

You guys are silly. Sanda is kung fu. All it is freefighting kung fu. That has it's roots in Laitai.

The Kung Fu guy obviously lack combat experience. He must have attacked based on fixed combos (forms) yet when things don't go his way, he's screwed.
Skillking22 2 years ago
This movie is biased. Simply because a Kung Fu practitioner loses to a Sanda practitioner doesn't mean traditional Kung Fu sucks in combat.
Master Shi De Jian would own both their asses anyway.

Preferably keeping the Cantonese track. :-)

What does the Xanda style consist of? That's what I want to know: the techniques and defensive measures behind it.

So is Xanda like Jeet kune do, almost? The principles that you described for Xanda sounds almost like jeet kune do...or is it something different?
