be sure not to buy the Beacon brand, I got two of them and niether would turn off, I used a pair of pliers to turn one off and the other fell apart before it turned off, they are about $3.30 at sports authority but are crap.
some people have asked how much they weigh...i scrolled down and look at quite a few posts and didn't see that anyone has posted weights. I just weigh all of mine and they vary from 21-23 grains. I imagine the differences are mostly due to how much glue is used and how much of the "cut" nock you are using. I'll work on getting a video of mine being shot so that ya'll can see
I've looked for these Thill Nite Brite bobbers at Meijer and Walmart....they dont seem to carry this kind. However, my local Gander Mountain and Dick's Sporting Goods has them all the time. We made 6 of these just before the Fall Archery season in 2010 and this now Spring 2011 and all 6 still work perfectly.
I have tried this; looks pretty easy and it is, but the battery lights suck and are easy to break.. they arent for consistant shooting,, they are good for about one shot and two if ur lucky.. if i would have known this i just would have bought luminoks instead.
I have tried this; looks pretty easy and it is, but the battery lights suck and are easy to break.. they arent for consistant shooting,, they are good for about one shot and two if ur lucky.. if i would have known this i just would have bought luminoks instead.
i will say this is cool, but i tried it and just pay the 10 bucks for a illuminok. there to easy to mess up and then your out the 6 or 7$ for all your parts!very cool though!
I bought 10 of the Thill lights to make these lighted nocks and was only able to get 3 of the 10 to work, the Thills are so weak they kept breaking and would not turn on.
the problem i have with these is getting the nock to stay on the light i have tried many types of glue and they just wont stick? any specific nock i should be using? right now i am using gold tips..
hell yeah cool shit them things are EXPENSIVE and you gotta make sure you get the right size and i agree with Blame11 lol........and its a till lighted bobber light
these work perfictly thanks for sharing, didnt have to adjust my bow sights at all and made a kill on a 9pt buck last year they also work great for placing tracking markers for the blud trail.. thanks for sharing your video.
This was a great video thanks for sharing, I watched this last year and then tried your sugjestion and they worked perfictly. Plan on making a few more thanks
hey that's sum good info to have i use the lumenoks and i made 5 of these noks for about the cost of 2 lumenoks brilliant idea and i've tested them works just as good as the others only thing i had trouble with was i changed arrow rest and had to rotate the nocs which when i tried to rotate the first 2 didn't go so well broke off on the inside as u said would so no big dissapointment there had to remove the inserts on the front which i took to the local shop to do but good idea thumbs up..
whats the name of the light bulb thing u used again? i listened to the vid over and over again and couldn't quite catch what you said.... something like.. ''Bother-light''??!!
just a suggestion, intead of the trouble of cutting the other nock, i have rubber bands from braces and they work perfect. they are tiny so they fit around the light but just big enought to touch the arrow.
I tried this, it works good, the only thing I did different is - I put the light in the nock first then squirted superglue through thehole I drilled to glue the light in, that way it got a little more glue and can't get under the light to mess up the on/off switch.
Rmadison75, did you use the original nock from the arrow to make the anchoring end? It should have fit tight if you did. Might have to try different nocks for the anchor end. Hope this helps.
I read the comments on here you can get these, lights from any store really, you can use the Nite Brite made by Thill you will find them at Meijer, Walmart, in the fishing dept. they run around $3.19.Drill size will determine on nock size of course i used a 3/32" to drill my holes fit perfect. The only problem i am having is the anchor point its not anchoring hard enough inside the shaft to allow the push and pull on/off positions to work properly. Any suggestions would be great.
Just made two of these lighted nocks for my Beman ICS Venture arrows and they work GREAT!! After I thought about it a few minutes and decided what I was going to do, it only took me about 15 mins to make two of them. I've shot them about 40 times apiece and they haven't failed not once!! Bought the lights at Academy for 3 bucks and some change each.
made two of these today and they work great. the light works better if you match the nock color and light color (i.e. red light/orange nock). if you have any super glue gel, it works great for the bottom sleeve
deer7532 these homemade lumenocks do work for a beman ics hunter arrow me and my friend shoot the same arrow and he made enough for all of his arrows and they work great.
I made 6 of these for my carbon express arrows and they are great.Don't glue the nock to the light, leave it loose to turn off and on,also do not try to make these if you have Easton Axis carbons, they are too narrow.
omg please respond, were did u get your arrow knocks, fot the red and white fletched arrows. i need to know cause i cant find them anywhere, i dammaged the nocks on my arros and need to replace them, please reply, thanks so much!
these things work awsome. do u no where to get them cheap. and some helpful hints if you need to get it out of your arrow use a coat hanger to push it out. and after the battery dies you can reuse the lighted knock by drilling out the old light
great idea where do you get the bobber lites at I am in canada so to find them might be a bit harder. would like it if you could get back to me on this thanks .
These work great, just follow the directions and you won't be disappointed. Way better than paying $5-7 a piece for pre-made ones. After combing every aisle at wal-mart for the replacement bobber lights I went to Academy and found them there. The red ones glow the best, these things are amazing.
these lights worked great!!! i made three my self today and am very impressed. overall they const about 2 dollars and 50 cents to make each. the lights are very small in diameter they will fit in any arrow. im sure of it. this is a much better and cheaper solution then paying 10$ a piece for luminoks or other alike products... thanks for the great video it saved me lots of time and money.
That's a really good idea and it looks like it works well, but it seems easier to go buy one. I may try it that way too. Anyway, really good idea and design.
hey i was wondering if tey would work in the X-nocks in the easton axis arrows? I think they might be a little smaller. Do you happen to know the diameter of the light complex?
i just made some today and the lights are more than small enough in diameter for even the smallest of arrows. they work fantastis. even better than the luminoks. i compared them side by side and these homemade ones destroyed teh luminoks... for only a quarter of the price!!!! you cant beat em
made some tonight the only lights i could find actually came with the bobber too. they were like 7 bucks a dicks by the time you do all the math plus your time your not saving much money and they are no where near as strong as the origional luminock
thanks man they work great how long did it take you to figure out how to do this?Had trouble trying to find the night brite bobber lights.Where do you get yours?
I have made a couple of these about 12 to 16 if you had trouble finding the thrill replacement lights you can also use blue fox firefly replacement lights also, they are cheaper and last the same amount of time as the thrill brand, i found them at dicks sporting goods and walmart. Cant beat each one of them costing about 1.99.
ITS a great idea!! (BUT) The lights are to Fragile!!! they are good for 1 or 2 shots and the light breaks and starts to flicker from the force of pushing the nock into the arrow and pulling it back out! after a couple of times light breaks and stops working from turning it on and off. Also the part that acts as the stop will never be snug enough, and if it is snug enough it just helps break the light switch even faster when you push it in the first time! its basicly a waste of time
I tried this and it works really well. However, for my Maxima TCX nocks, I did not have to drill the nock and using superglue gel seemed to work better and faster in both cementing steps.
I have Easton Axis and the Thill light needs a 5/32" hole to fit into nock, which is to large for the nock because it starts to cut though the nock wall making it very unstable.
With bigger diameter nocks this works great!!!
(Anyone know of a light I could use with a smaller diameter?)
I just got done making three of my own. It worked gread I shot it several times and seems to be dependable! Just be careful with that glue I messed my second one up! Don't twist either my buddy twisted one and it no longer works.
Have you ever tried making these with an Easton Axis Shaft? I tried and it was a failure, the shaft's nock is too small for the light to slip up into, even when rilling it.
Excellent tutorial, much easier than the others I have seen. I can't wait to try it now. I just might this weekend. Thanks for sharing your expertise!!
did it and it works great....word of advice for all you viewers...when he talks about the super glue....be careful...my first one worked great...second one i glued up wrong and effed the whole thing...but it works
No. I haven't yet, but I'll try and get one done. Saw one at Wal-Mart, though. Really did not feel like paying nine bucks for one that can cost only around $3.Have a good one.
Why is the second nock so much dimmer than the other one? Is it just because the battery is low?

Have you ever tried making these with an Easton Axis Shaft? I tried and it was a failure, the shaft's nock is too small for the light to slip up into, even when rilling it.

Nice job!!!! Have you noticed much change in arrow performance with the added weight to the end?
lordphobus 5 years ago
No. I haven't yet, but I'll try and get one done. Saw one at Wal-Mart, though. Really did not feel like paying nine bucks for one that can cost only around $3.Have a good one.
