Thanks for the demo. Miter boxes seem like a nice, cheap alternative if you're only going to do a few cuts, but if you're going to make these cuts often it's probably worth investing in an electrical miter saw.
@brokenjaw1971 Good video and yes only for now-and-again type use or small projects. The tip about the thin piece of wood at the bottom is excellent. Also, I would find a place to screw it down somewhere and use that lip at the bottom to hook it on an edge of a work bench or old table because the stability it provides is priceless if you don't like doing things over and over because the shaky cuts don't fit well.
Thanks!! You rock, I was having a hard time remembering how to this, since the last time I saw it was watching the original this old house with my dad:)
ummm it shouldn't sound like that and im no expert. that was not a smooth cut.

THANKS MUCH!! List of your helpful hints (4 me and others :):
1) Mount the Box to a piece of scrap wood for stability
2) Put piece of slip-proof carpet material underneath to prevent box movement
3) Prevent cutting through the miter box by placing piece of wood at box 'bottom'
4) Mark trim where you want to cut
5) Line mark up with the cut opening
6) Use back saw to make cut (saw was specifically made to use with a Miter Box)
7) Tight 90 deg joint achieved with some sanding
