The first scaffold match I had heard of was the one at Starrcade '86 between the Road Warriors & the Midnight Express. This one was before the one at Starrcade.

Kinda sad to see the empty seats here. Just a year or two before and WCCW was selling out places like this easy. Vince's national expansion was really hurting everyone else by this point.
@peterp21 even before Vince's national expansion most of the promotions that held cards in stadiums never even quarter filled em if you look at Fritz's retirement match against bundy it wasn't even close to full they tried camera angles to make it look full but it failed
I have to say that scaffold matches to me back then were not very entertaining.I knew that common sense would tell you that neither any of the wrestlers were ever going to fall on their heads or take a crazy fall and get seriously hurt.It was just boring because both teams always spent most of the time on the stomachs, and would take any serious risky maneuvers.
@sammys70 I have seen one scaffold match where the wrestler went straight from a standing position down to the ring. It was at the ECW Arena in 1993 so the scaffold was about 10 to 12 feet above the ring. It wasn't extremely high since they couldn't get it much more than that. Even with such a lowered height, the fall was SCARY and I don't even want to imagine what it would have been like on one of the legit 20-25 feet scaffolds.
I never knew this match took place before today. I agree, this scaffold looks 6-8' higher than in any match I've seen before. And I can't believe there's no guards on the entire length, especially as shaky as it seems during the match. Great post. I don't think you'll ever see a match like this take place again as great as the liability is in this day and time.
Thanks for sharing, you are right this does seem a bit high but I think The Starrcade match from 86 was about the same height but it also had guardrails on the end
Why won't they stand up and fight? That scaffold looks VERY sturdy! :)

6 guys lay down on a scaffold for 6 mins while a sparse crowd looks on.
