@kn00tcn i'm running on the beta version since it's known to have the most stability. i'm afraid you are right about 10.6...all my problems with CF started when i updated to it.

whenever i want to play DX10 games, my only options are to disable CF or downclock the 2nd gpu to 500/507...really sucks. If ATI keeps doing this, they will lose the market share for extreme pc gamers. they make great hardware but the drivers are crapware!

there's also twl's drivers that apparently fixed the x2 issues & a bunch of other things, cuz he's mixing parts of different versions into 1 pack

@kn00tcn temps are fine, around 40-50 c tops on the 2nd gpu according to gpu-z. all i know is, i've had these issues since i opened my vid card up to clean it from dust AND installed from 10.3 to 10.6. So i dont know if it was the driver or if i messed something up physically. all i know is that i'm not alone in this issue.

Multiplatform games use a custom 3d wrapper library that interfaces to OpenGl -or- Direct3D. It's the only way to make it a viable option to develop for multiple platforms. That's why a lot of companies shell out big dollars for a cross platform library that's good. So it of course "uses" direct3d, but GTA 3 didn't do it very efficiently. What I meant was whether or not it makes efficient use of it. It looks pretty darn good in the video.

On my ASUS M3A78-CM it runs pretty good in High Detail. I have to admit though. You have a awesome system too! But it's good you know that. Not many people know water is the most difficult item to render in any video game. Try old school Battlefield 2, and post the water rendition if you want. That uses both shader 1 and 2 models. BF2 is getting old, ETQW is like BF2's water but smoother (coincidentally, ETQW's gameplay is a lot like BF as well)

water is easy & 'good enough' if you fake it with basic reflections+ripples, but only good artists make it proper like in crysis

max view distance is a real pain on the cpu, & it's a really strange option... they should have used lower detail textures for far away buildings or something, as it demands well over 1gb vram just to go past 30 view distance

in gta4, overclocking the cpu should be a big difference, not so much in most other games

i (eventually) made all volts manual, since P5Q series motherboards have horrible auto settings

a p45 northbridge does not need much voltage at all, i think i run it at 1.14 or 1.16v

the cpu vcore (& the other cpu related voltages) i've changed, but i dont think i went much higher (if at all) than what auto volts were on stock speeds
