  • Yes. Yes I do dream in colour thanks.

  • No problems with the quality. This is ace. Bill's homegrown effort was one of the earliest video promos. It cost Bill 500 quid which was a lot in those days. Still far more innovative than most of the tripe you get these days. The fact this made only #51 in the UK is a sad indictment of the record buying public at the time.

  • Had this on 7" vinyl.. still sounds just as good today. Will have to dig out some Be-bop Deluxe stuff now. Quit dreaming and get in the beam :)

  • Bill Nelson...all his solo material is just amazing. Genius.

  • genius. unutterably, unequivocaly so far ahead of his times it hurts. this man invented post punk and gets fuck all credit in these BBC4 shit retrospectives.

  • I know I'm a child of my time but (with apologies to hardcore BBD fans) I think this era solo stuff is the best stuff he's ever done. So far...

  • saw bill in glasgow years ago!! in a nightclub called nightmoves!! he was brilliant. way ahead of his time and his music is so inbeat, brilliant,, keep it up?xxx

  • Bill Nelson, I met him at Leeds Irish Centre & Leeds city varieties what a gentleman. A legend.

A man ahead of he's time.

  • I was lucky to meet bill thru steve peer -Steve was a darn good drummer

  • Definitely one of the most underrated guitar players of all time. I'm hoping for a Be Bop Deluxe reunion show, with Bobby Pickett on bass. I'm dreaming in colors.

  • visionary and ahead of its time!

  • I bought this record nearly 30 years ago & am STILL playing it, one of my favourite 7"s ever...

  • thats amazing, ive been looking aroundon here for rare bill nelson stuff for agggerrs! :P its quite futuristic when you think about it

    ^^ AWSOME

  • @patriciaannpat How could you think that??? Bill Nelson is one of the greatest musicians of all time and this is one of my favorite songs.

  • we have this album, and its awesome!!!

  • Looks like the future Talking Heads members really liked Bill Nelson's work.

  • @wreed22 we have this CD, its great!

  • I am pretty sure my brain just converted that video into colour!

  • To grab this mp3 goto ezmp3grab doht cohm.

  • I still love this after all these years. What year was it? Maybe I shouldn't know really, it would make me feel too old!

  • bill nelson panic in the world,,,dreamin colour,,,,red noise...funiture music.what a songwriter.............

  • this is almost like dr caligari

  • Love Bill Nelson. Always loved Be Bop Deluxe and always will !

  • got most of bills stuff . but god these eccentrics annoy me . they have so much talent and a prodidgeous output but very little commercial success. frustrates me as the plebs will never hear true talent :( m49

  • Those were the days.

  • all ways dreamed in colour surperb....

  • This video is up there with Colin Newman's B for sheer brilliance! Same time too.

  • another of my fav's i've never seen! where do you find this stuff??? shazam1059

  • help, looking for 'Suvasini' off 'On A Blue Wing' Let me know if you can post it.

  • the dancin bloke dances like me after a few ciders ! at 2 mins 11

    good track !!

  • odd dont know know if my dreams are in color, can't be B&W right?

  • the first time i saw this was on the max headroom show,

  • Bill Nelson HERO

  • Amazing.

  • i have slept in this very house that the vidio was maed in my friends antie lives there and i loved every secound of it ! i slept inn that very room the vidio starts from ! x

  • An abstract approach in this video. Music runs parallel to the illusion.

  • banal yes ,,how about red noise album brilliant!

  • For those of you who like this song, but aren't too familier with Bill Nelson's work, give the tracks "Banal" and "Living In My Limosine" a good few listens, and you'll prob then want to get his album "Quit Dreaming And Get On The Beam", which has all 3 tracks on. You won't be disappointed

  • Bill Nelson is awesome, I agree track is like Devo.

  • Great track, reminiscent of Devo and "Pop Musik" (M)

  • The 'old man' mask used in the video looks a lot like the one Peter Gabriel used whilst performing sections of The Musical Box with Genesis in the early 70s.

  • come on- what a distant planet away this %$##% is from us now- and I mean that as pure as most of my compliments could possibly be- i feel as though i've opened a time-capsule from a distant galaxy- so this is perfect...

  • I love this

  • very underrated artist witha prodigious output over the years just like aussie ed kuepper

  • totally/obviously a devo ripoff....but still heavy regardless..

  • sorry friend both band and artist are quite different bills stuff is mostl avant garde/experimental and devo tend to be more commercial (try album "love that whirls" for a better idea of bills most commercial?) both are/were hugely underrated but i still love em both...btw i like far more of devos stuff. but eros arriving(bill) is one of my all time faves :)

  • filtro 6 is an idiot, but he's right about the cut of Bill's jib... one of the great overlooked songs of the 80's, by one of the great songists...

  • In this time Bill Nelson was so creative. This is so cooooool.

  • Bill Nelson is still a creative genius

  • Whimsy from 2003 is fantastic, 41 songs who sweep you away. Bill Nelson is for me the most creative person ever born.

  • @2perros2

''The most creative person ever born!!!?''

    Man you're hilarious.

  • Man, Bill is awsome !

  • @2perros2 yes Bill is incredible i agree but i don't like Be Bo Deluxe

  • Brilliant stuff, the lyrics are a pile of meaningless pants, but I really like the cut of Bill's jib

  • We buried Michele with this boxed set. Mauve.

  • Could someone add KISS OF LIGHT?

  • this is a classic!..prob one of the best record of the 80,s.............i just dream in colour

  • lol that luks lyke the mask peter gabriel wears in the musical box at 1. 08

  • This song has been stuck in my head for almost 25 years. It was always a mystery to me what it was. I was 11 or so when I heard it. I've tried searching for this title to no avail. I had no idea who the artist was but I knew it was somebody very original and eclectic. Thanks for posting this. Now I can discover more of Bill Nelson's work and from today this song can be stuck in my head for another 25 years but in a fresher and informed sort of way.

  • dans antie jacks is the bets in the werd and she livs in this house wher the video is coz this was bill nelssons old house wher the vidoe was made

  • i have bin in this house wher the vidio was coz my mayts antie jakcs ons it and she is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fun and well better than my mayts anty kathrin!!!!

  • So cool.. good one

  • What is it about Bill and miniature televisions?

I never knew Bill made a video for this. Loved seeing all the creepy masks (reminded me a bit of early Devo videos).

Wondering about the Max Headroom / Blank Reg segments. Was this video produced to be used in an episode of Max Headroom?

  • Yes, this video was indeed used in the Max Headroom series back in the eighties. If you like this, check out "It Hurts" by the Lotus Eaters (available on Youtube) which was also featured in the same programme. All classy surrealistic stuff!

  • I've no idea what a single sentence of the lyrics on this album actually meant, but it's cracking anyway

  • I had no idea there was a video for this song. Neat!

  • I hate that old punk in 1:30; he's disgusting.

Pitty, 'cos the video is great.

  • I'd love to see a video of 'Living In My Limousine' if there's one out there, it's my favourite Bill Nelson song.

  • Do you dream of you tube?..Bill Nelson is a pioneer!

  • I have the whole Max Headroom series on VHS somewhere. I must dig it out. It was a bit surreal. Like the Sting interview. Max gives him a gift. A pair of golf shoes. Sting hates golf.....

  • wow...what a blast from the past I love this!! I must have it somewhere...thank you for this!!

  • Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant!

  • rip ian nelson great guy

  • What a gem. I still remember picking up the single of this during a trip to the UK in 1981.

  • and we are..'helpless to resist'

  • "Video junkie, looking for a fix" this should be the theme song for Youtube! Love Bill Nelson, he is a treasure.

  • Ahead of his time...

  • I have everyting with Bill Nelson. I love this song and the album....Buy whimsy--

  • do we dream in colour - to this day i still don´t know !

  • the mind is a wonderful thing to waste...

  • I believe that Bill made this video himself (and very cheaply) because he didn't have the backing of a major record label after the breakup of Be Bop & Red Noise. The story that I heard at the time was that the UK broadcast Trade Unions then decided that they wouldn't "allow" it to be broadcast on UK TV because it was made with "non union labour". Wow, it just shows how the world has moved on with Youtube, My Space etc.

  • i agree dagebu.. he was way aheadof time..red noise was a classic..durastic plastic..should have been one of the all time great albums, billnelson is a geinus..

  • Got this on 7",think it was a freebee with " Quit Dreamin and Get On The Beam " Great song,Great Vid.

  • Have always been a big fan..

Be Bop Deluxe were possibly the thinking mans Roxy Music!

I often wondered if he ever met Ollie Halsall..

Bill has always been a bit special..

Like David Bowie,Brian Eno and Thomas Dolby..

    Thanks for this unforgettable clip

  • This one haunted me for 22 years until it turned up here. It's stood the test of time I think. Unfortunately the bit that haunted me most is the keyboardist's hand gesture that just happens to be at the moment when some idiot TV person decided to cut to the people in the junk yard.

  • True experimentation. Love that avante-garde feel. I never knew this was on Max Headroom. What an exciting period all round. This video reminds me of Texas Chainsaw Massacre which I saw at the same time. Those masks give me the freaks even now. Especially the sax player's dance. And now I'm 14 again... Thanks dagooch

  • The sax player was Bill's brother Ian who sadly died in 2006 on his 50th birthday. You can find more details in Bill's journal on his website bill nelson dot com.

  • Had this as an EP (remember them lol) and lost it:-( any hoo by all accounts this was recorded in bill's front room !!!

  • A favourite track by an all time genious.

  • i dream in H-D colour

  • I always loved Bill Nelson. he opened my car door by mistake when he came out of a Pie Shop in Blackheath...he thought it was his Triumph Dolomite..but it was mine. Had he taken my car and I taken his..wow...we are really exploring a parrallell universe. As it happens he just said "sorry" and I continued with my life as a tyre-fitter.

  • weird/interesting music

  • I just discovered this as I am looking for the song "hers is a lush situation" but I do remember this one. Haven't heard it since the 80s

  • "Now a quick update from the Middle East"

  • Have the album,have never seen the vid,until now !! :-)

  • this is brilliant..havent heard this for yrs!! am a big fan of be bop deluxe..cant stop playing this track..fantastic andy

  • Bill Nelson is so underrated in the 'states. Thanks for posting this video to one my favorite BN songs.

  • I was always curious to what this group sounded like. My mother is a hippie and my father listens to this. How strange!

  • -elwoodlpool- think i should look harder..Cheers

  • Bless the maxhead room show,Obscure stuff it was,Bill Nelson timeless,Living in my limousine was excellent too.Ringy classics..

  • agreed i have some of those max shows there worth having just another strange video from the max headroom show was a woman singing about rats and a guy singing about germans

  • Oh Yes! 'Rats on a stick' wasn't it? Looked like Tonie Basil on speed bouncing around in her short skirt lol. Udo Lindenburg - Germans. Does anybody remember that AWFULL song by Jessie Rae? Some muppet in a kilt on the top of a mountain swinging a sword around overhead being filmed from a helicopter who kept flying around in circles? By the sea or to the sea i think was the title.

  • Cool but this came out 1979 though I have the single ep package which includes Rooms with Brittle Views

  • Has anyone got "Revolt into Style" ?

  • Any one have anything from Bill's "Red Noise"?

  • Way ahead of his time.

  • i love Bill

  • i have this video on the max headroom uk extended movie

  • Nice one,in the same max headroom show i'm sure there was a video 'steam hammer' don't know who by..,Be nice to see again.

  • do you mean sledge hammer

  • The video you are after was called "steamhammer sam".

You can find it at this Youtube id:

     "watch?v=qPJINtSIe4M"

  • i remember seeing this on max headroom - shows how old i am... this (excellent) song is from the cd "quit dreaming and get on the beam".

  • thank you so so much for this. I bought the single on release but never saw the video.

  • i saw them live twice in the glasgow apollo ....fantastic!!

  • I saw them live in the Apollo too I think it was 76 & 77 fantastic.

  • It was also released in the US as the first track on an LP entitled Vistamix. Thanks for this entirely obscure upload!

  • Ok thanks asteroid, ill try and get it as soon as poss!

  • I never knew this video existed...Fantastic! Did Bill get the "old man" mask from Peter Gabriel?? lol

  • its off 'quit dreaming and get on the beam' released 1980 his first 3 lps are classics - buy them!!

  • dam i cant stop listening to this song!

  • Also on "Vistamix".

  • answer my comment ppl!

  • Ive only just started to listen to Bill's solo stuff and i have to say its looking good, i love this song, its really unfortunate that bill is so underrated but thats just the way things go.

  • Can i ask, when was this song released? Any particualr album or single? i wana try and find it on cd or something, thanks

  • Bill's first 2 great solo albums are now back in print. "Quit Dreaming and Get Back on the Beam," and "The Love that Whirls" are availiable worldwide, for CHEAP.

  • This song is available on his album Quit Dreaming And Get On The Beam which was originally released in 1981. It was recently REreleased and I highly recommend you go out and buy it along with The Love That Whirls (Diary Of A Thinking Heart) and Chimera. You will not hear music like this from anyone else. Nelson was and STILL is in a class of his own. Genius is what he is.

  • It was released in 1984. It's from Nelson's solo album, "Vistamix".

  • it's a fab song - takes me back. I'm from Selby too and remember him from the to heaven a jet era....

  • Anyone got the awesome Ships in the Night??

  • If anybody has any more videos please, please put them up.if you have time go to his website athttp://www.billnelson.com/

  • Thanks! Fave solo song, but had no clue there was a video.

  • thanks. i can't find my VHS cop. wait... it was on max headroom??

  • Brilliant- a truly underrated artist

  • This takes me back.It great to see the video after all this time and bill with hair.

  • He still has hair.
