Dumbbells were actually adapted from the clappers of churchbells in Italy. Kettlebells were a form of market weight. In Scotland they would throw rocks with handles for distance. It should come as no surprise that the Chinese would use padlocks for conditioning. Cultures since time immemorial have found fitness uses for generic equipment.
Also, if you look at an ancient Greek haltere, it looks like a Russian kettlebell or a Chinese padlock. Russians have other cultural influences from Greece, such as Orthodox Christianity and some of their architecture, so who knows.
thanks for the info, never heard of a haltere before but yeah its crazy how everything and everyone is connected in someway ex. martial arts, tools, genes etc.
man ive been nursing a sholder injury, this would kill me lol but im sure it would be great for toughening tendons and stuff as well as building strength :D
kind of late in replying but hey, i've actually rehabilitated my shoulder injury from working with kettlebells, so i hope the same has or can happen for you
thanks lol my shoulder is better now tho, it took for ever to heal though, i do landscaping also and the tendons or what ever didnt get time to reduce from swelling. i was thrown from an arm bar while sparing our top student when he was testing for his black sash. try not to have that happen to you O_O lmao.
I am an okinawa karate practitioner, we use a tool almost identical to the stone padlock in the video, a little more square in design but pretty identical :D
i was wondering if you know how to make the padlocks or you just buy it :)
sweet. I was just playing with a 15 lb kettlebell today doing this exercise. so I guess it's about the same. I started to get the hang of it... but after my 55 lb kettlebell clean and jerks I was too tired to do it too long...hahhaa. I'll keep it up and increase to the 25 lb later.
@KicksOfFury I tried it with 8kg kettlebell- its not a difficult as it looks, the most awkward part is keeping ur hand position during the throw and catch :)
Accidents with that thing would be ridiculously painful, wouldn't they? But then, poor training for a fight would be worse. If only it were possible to buy a stone lock in the UK.... Thanks for the upload.
Nice, it improves the rotation of the shoulders as well as the strength of the sides. At the same time, it improves the stability of the legs.
Just to let you know, it is not really compound exercise. As compound exercises are normally defined as exercises making use of own body weight whereas equipments that extert external forces are called auxillary exercises.
y does it have to be a joke. its not like theres a set thing to upload. this is jus tryin to broaden the shuijiao name. it may not be as dynamic as an mma fight but it has its benifits. im not even a shuijiao prationer but its interesting to see how things r don in other places.

looks like a kettlebell. Could russia's kettlebell be derived or taken from china's stone padlock?

Ashwix, many of us want to know. How much would you guess that thing weighs? I think a kettle ball could be used. (A little one for me though....)

Yeah you could def use a kettlebell for that. I'm willing to bet that thing is not as light as that guy made it look lol

That's awesome. I will try to do that w. a kettlebell, but it will take some time to build up enough strength. I'll post a reply when I do.
