This is Hendrix at his mediocre level. The original Howling Wolf version is much more expressive , whilst this is a monotonous drone. By the way, before you start the personal insults, I was a big admirer of Hendrix and saw him play live many times, but some of you get so sychophantic about anything he did that you can't be differentiate between the better worse. I avoid the word "Fan" = Fanatic = can't think clearly.
neither him nor Clapton were gods, but both brialliant sometimes.
@GATTAPADRE the guitaring intro is pretty cool, but as far as the rest of THIS performance of the song, it kinda pales in comparison to the version they did at the monterey pop festival imo. Dont worry, this is one fan who will not attack someone simply for having a different opinion.
@GATTAPADRE Nobody is a GOD! Everyone had ON and OFF nights! I would say for most people this would be THEIR GREATEST ON NIGHT! I know you're probably PERFECT but, we cannot all be that way. Forgive us MERCIFUL LORD!!!!!!!!
i would have given my left nut to see Jimi do this when he got up to jam w/Cream & freaked out Clapton..i was watching this to try & get an idea of how he "rages" thru it and blew away everyone , espec Eric, but this seems kinda tame as compared to the way he was described preforming it that famous night..that has to be one of the 10 greatest moments in Rock..
Named the number one electric guitarist of all time for the second time by some of the top players of today in the Rollng Stone Poll. And he did it without tapping, imagine that.
If it wasn't for the creative genius of his Rhythm section; his music wouldn't have made much sense; Mitch Mitchell was playing with a few bands before he met up with Jimi Hendrix as was Noel Redding; both went on to play in even more projects after Jimi Hendrix' death1 But' all 3 influenced mucisians for years to come.
@Kelly14UK Couldn't have said it better myself, and I'm not putting Page down at all. Led Zeppelin are possibly my favourite band of all time, and Page is my second favourite guitarist, but the gap between Page and Hendrix is incredible. Jimi really was in a league of his own, the pinnacle..
@vedderfan94 You know what does it for me? The Spanish Castle Magic from this gig. He uses a Strat and he needs it as you'll see. It's hopefully still here on YT. It's almost unholy and you wonder where he was coming from lol
@Kelly14UK I'll have to check it out. One of my absolute favourite videos of Hendrix is his performance of Voodoo Child at Woodstock. He's just casually talking to the crowd and then launches into a blazing version of the song, making it all look so easy. Then the first solo just completely takes me away.
@AndrewP222 yeah but Hendrix went to a cream concert and then got on stage and asked if he could do a song with Cream....people were like...the nerve of this guy. Hendirx plays this song between his fuckin legs and behind his head while having sex with his guitar, and Clapton just stood there, as he thought the song was too technically difficult to play. But yeah he liked the song...i'm sure being mindfucked by hendrix was quite the Experience...see what i did there
I've spent days learning about hendrix, his life, his music, everything hendrix. I'd get 100% on a hendrix quiz D: My friends think i'm crazy. I'm being told to "get with the times". THIS IS MUSIC MAN; This hits my SOUL.
This is so much slower than the monterey performance, like a different song. This is laid back and heavy. Thats what I love about Hendrix, you never know what you're going to get.
Redding looks like my friend that happens to play bass, mixed with Geddy Lee... Clearly all amazing bassists model themselves after him... look at those fucking fingers move...
Alot of ppl don't know this and probably don't care, but jimi hendrix was actually depressed. He was always exhuasted from shows and was very alone. Thats wat manic depression is about. But it's nice to see that our good old boy hendrix is doing fine and well in this video. Love u hendrix! :D
@claytonisboss I care and yeh he was depressed at times because there was the fact he had no one he could open up to, but he always had alot of good friends with him e.g. Billy Cox, and ALOT of girlfriends... tell me that wouldn't make you happy ;)
@Clubs4Metal True true those treasures would make me happy, but after awhile u do get tired of certain things. Plus he didn't have to many good friends. When he first started out with the his band experience hendrix his bass player was always jealous and they were always arguing. When they were at the checkpoint in canada the guards found cocaine on jimi. Jimi at tht point was trying to go sober. shortly after tht his bass player quite. sorry for getting off topic. who cares? JIMI IS AWESOME!
@claytonisboss yeah Noel Redding was a bit of an idiot back then, and he even was in the Classic Albums episode of "Electric Ladyland", and actually it was Heroin that was found in Jimi's bag whilst going through customs at Toronto airport. He did have good friends of course, Billy Cox, Buddy Miles, Chas Chandler, Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones and of course his father. Mate, let's not think negative about him, cuz Hendrix is a legend! :D
@Clubs4Metal Nice to know someone who appreciates hendrix as much as i do. U must be a guitarist to appreciate and know music like this. It's always a thrill for me to meet another guitarist like myself, i can always learn soo much from them. :)
@claytonisboss Jimi has been quoted as saying Manic Depression came about because someone TOLD him he looked depressed (one of the band members I think)
He may well have had depression, but he made the song up after being told that.
I heard that they didn't play well this show because they tried but couldn't find anything to smoke. However, between shows they scored some hash. The recording I have from the second show this night is 100% better than this show. They were ON FIRE! Unbelievably great...
Noel Redding had the worst bass tone ever. He was so lucky to get to play with Jimi, but he was always whining about wanting to play the guitar of all things! So Jimi let his band, Fat Mattress, open a few shows...AND THEY SUCKED!! Jimi used to call them "Thin Pillow!!" Check out their vids. They were sooo lame...
Led Zeppelin did a version of this song... except they called it "the Lemon Song" but not sure if they ever gave credit to the real composer of the song.... Howlin' Wolf. Zep had a habit of using other people's music and calling it their own.
@Frapzoid I know Zeppelin was sued (3 times if I'm not mistaken) Willie Dixon, who wrote alot of songs (muddy waters, howlin wolf) during chess records era, I cant remember the songs,, but they arent hard to look up, sued them, chess records as well, so perhaps they did start giving credit after a few lawsuits
@TheDevilsBusiness I play flamenco guitar it's very technical but jimi is not one to scoff at he's a great guitarist in a way most technical players can't understand so trust me when i say this don't be extreme biased to one style because if you listen carefully jimi plays a style most flamenco players can't really appreciate because it isn't technical or timing based it's spread out and tone based.
@randycwyatt I was around when Jimi played. I am not saying he couldn't play, But as I play both Flamenco and that psychedelic stuff, Jimi basically played blues and feedback. The fact that he included the sonic sound instead of trying to clean it out was innovative, Ok, not ANY Flamenco could play around him, but those Flamenco players who aren't limited by Spanish Classical structure and culture but play from the real gypsy heart could do it.
It's a well know fact that hendrix wasn't the druggy they kept reporting if anyone has watched the documentary on Hendrix you truly have to give great pause on what happened the nite he died for he only had a few sleepin pills in his system which he took on a regular basis, there is great speculation that the industrial machine didn't want his influence around autopsy reads drowning from red wine
It is hard to put into words how truly amazing he was. In such a short time he made his mark in music history as one of the greatest guitarist. ever if not the greatest. I personally, and I am sure many others agree, think his lyrics are absolutely priceless.
@browsemusicvideos ..........greetings from the apple isle dude..............long time no see...........that bad a s s gossip from jimi's '68 vienna visit can be found at "kate ceberano pash sharonipwni"..........just press "see all" to find the 3 hidden comments............simmo said you wanted it. regards.
I luv listenin to jimi but i can't stop thinkin how noel gettin fuked out of his royalties and he was pretty well pushed out of playin bass for jimi cause the black panthers were highly critizin him for havin a all white band. That pretty well sealed the fate of the experience, although Mitch did end up comin back.
Yeah noel wrote a cool book 'Are you experienced?'. His bass playing is great here! I think they could all get a bit frazzled from all the drugs, but noel seemed a bit bitter - Jimi and Mitch used to miss planes to avoid him!
Noel made me take up the bass though, and 20 years later I still wish I could play bass with Hendrix! Sly Stone told the Panthers to get lost when they started all that 'whites in the band' rubbish!
Amazing version amazing song!!! He just had so much charisma. Oh and as far as the dude saying he wasn't out of tune... I love jimi, but dude he is clearly trying to get his guitar in tune... If you have ever played a strat... Especially heavily bending the strings and attacking the whammy!!! You would be rich if you got paid for how often it goes out of tune.
@expandwhatyousee And since this is what 40 years ago, that means the tuning mechanisms aren't as good as today so this issue of strats falling out of tune is even worse. Thank the Lord for Floyd Rose!
First time I've heard this version. This is a MUCH better than the one at Monterey Pop. I've always thought that was too fast - figured it was the drugs.
@chunk4l1f3 bullshit you've seen better, jimi has and always will be the GOD of any type of guitar style you can think of. There is no better so shut the fuck up and learn more facts before disrespecting Hendrix
Clapton never played this song with Cream as he deemed it too difficult when Jimi went on stage to jam with Cream he played this and Clapton just stopped playing and just walked to the side of the stage unable to compete or believe what he saw and heard cz Jimi just pulled out all the stops. MAN I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SEEN THAT JIMI blew god away HA HA HA
@bumbo612 aye! :) my best friend is also italian I speak 16 languages, to :) I speak Hebrew, yiddish,Italian, english, spanish,Arabic, dutch, german,Japanese,Chinese,Portuguese, russian, slovenian, slovak, swedish, and Vietnamese. Now don't think I was on this earth for 93 years for nothing ;)
@bumbo612 I'm from England I'm also jewish. And I first started listening to his music back in 1962 until his death :(. and may years later I come to you-Tube to search up jimi hendrix music : )
I'm actually 93 year's old about to be 94 in October. This is my son's account and he taught me how too use this what's the name of this.. Oh yes the Mac.book Pro. I have no Idea what the hell it is.. But anyway I know you're right I follow up these young fast CHILDREN in my eyes...... I'm ashamed of this young generation.
@Keno2468 wow where have you been all you're life. jimi is a legend and.... Probably he was playing music before your father even think about having kid(s) so if you don't have nothing suitable too say please, please for the love of god shhh
@Keno2468 wow where have you been all you're life. jimi is a legend and.... Probably he was playing music before your father even think about having kid(s)
@keno2468 Hendrix wasn't "out of tune" like you say, he just never plays the note or the chords you're waiting for. In fact Hendrix always surprise you because he never plays the same thing twice. He is the best guitarist of all time, and he just blow my mind every time i hear his Strat.
@voodoochild1311 It's a Strat... It's out of tune. That doesn't make him a bad guitarist. I just don't believe he could possibly have anything resembling a Floyd Rose locking system, so it'd take probably a song to play out of tune. And as far as not playing the same thing twice... No one has that huge of a vocabulary. You sir are false. And he has to play the chords right, otherwise it would indeed be out of tune. You make no sense. Go study some music theory and/or guitar please.
OMY gosh when I turned this up too the max I almost lost my hearing Mitch M used to fucking hit on the drums like it's fucking running away.>:-O but I still like it :) (song)
Can you imagine how an unsuspecting Clapton felt when Chas Chandler got Cream to agree to let Hendrix join them on stage and Jimi unleashed this monster intro on them?

I luv listenin to jimi but i can't stop thinkin how noel gettin fuked out of his royalties and he was pretty well pushed out of playin bass for jimi cause the black panthers were highly critizin him for havin a all white band. That pretty well sealed the fate of the experience, although Mitch did end up comin back.
dictator54 5 months ago
@dictator54

You would be rich if you got paid for how often it goes out of tune.
expandwhatyousee 6 months ago
@expandwhatyousee And since this is what 40 years ago, that means the tuning mechanisms aren't as good as today so this issue of strats falling out of tune is even worse. Thank the Lord for Floyd Rose!

First time I've heard this version. This is a MUCH better than the one at Monterey Pop. I've always thought that was too fast - figured it was the drugs.
Thanks for the upload.

He was out of tune what a shit guitarist!
keno2468 7 months ago
@keno2468 Hendrix wasn't "out of tune" like you say, he just never plays the note or the chords you're waiting for. In fact Hendrix always surprise you because he never plays the same thing twice. He is the best guitarist of all time, and he just blow my mind every time i hear his Strat.
voodoochild1311 7 months ago
@voodoochild1311 It's a Strat... It's out of tune. That doesn't make him a bad guitarist. I just don't believe he could possibly have anything resembling a Floyd Rose locking system, so it'd take probably a song to play out of tune. And as far as not playing the same thing twice... No one has that huge of a vocabulary. You sir are false. And he has to play the chords right, otherwise it would indeed be out of tune. You make no sense. Go study some music theory and/or guitar please.
