A fairer approach would seem to be restorative justice i.e. a significant fine to be put towards victims of underage rape etc. Jail in this instance would benefit no-one, least of all the victim. What is the age of consent anyway? Seems many countries, and previously, US states for that matter, have not reach a consensus.

Opinions about this case are fucking disturbing. I find it really shocking when somebody like Michael Jackson who touches a young "boy" is persecuted for YEARS and he wasnt even convicted of it, and then Roman Polanski fucks a 13 yr old "girl" and were all okay with it. SEND HIM TO PRISON. Great talent but doesnt mean he should get a free pass. If this was ANY ONE OF YOU there would be no case to save you - itd be off to jail for you you go.

I cant see the point of putting Roman Polanski in jail. A fairer approach would seem to be restorative justice i.e. a significant fine to be put towards victims of underage rape etc. Jail in this instance would benefit no-one, least of all the victim. Their are other factors at work, the wishes of the victim (let him go), RP poses no threat to other minors plus the fact that grief does funny things to people - a hefty fine would be right IMHO. I suspect the Americans will cock it up though.

We put scare tactics and the word "disgusting" into way too many things...after all, how old was the Virgin Mary when she gave birth to Jesus? Most religious and historical experts say it was common for women at that time to be married and give birth to their first child at 12 or 13 years of age, and Mary was no different!

I believe that if a 13 year old girl who is sexually mature, and the contact is ok by both parties, it should not be illegal!
HOWEVER, if the 13 year old is forced or manipulated against her will, that is a different story. THAT should be illegal.
In France, Spain and other European and African, South American countries, it would be, as long as it was consensual, be viewed as a "learning" experience, or maybe a questionable matter, but not illegal to where the older person went to prison.

He never did rape her. The charge was "rape" at first but DA had to change it to "unlawful sexual intercourse", so he never pleaded guilty to a rape.
