The reason Irish musicians don't play this song is because it's a steriotype at this point. It's like one of us saying "Top of the morning to ya" or "Blarney." We just don't do it. It would be like an American playing Camptown Races while saying "Gee-wilikers this song is the bees knees!"
It's tiring hearing this tune bashed so badly by so many. This is a nice change -Very well done and the hammer-on trills show off the proficiency of this palyer. Again, very well done - and thanks for letting me hear it done properly with feeling.
Hi. What's your tuning here? It sounds like the first string is tuned up to an f; Is that safe to do? Wouldn't that break the string? I've never tried such a high tuning, but if it is safe to do without breaking my banjo, I would give it a try. Thanks.
being taught my country's music in my country benefits me alot in that sense, because you don't just get the yank here and there who might play the same instrument as you. Over here loads of peole play banjo(tenor)
Maybe it's a chestnut for the Irish guys, but it doesn't get done enough in bluegrass circles, especially if you can play it like this guy1 GREAT job, Rex.
they played this song at McGuffys and the dublin Pub(my favorite local irish pubs :D) over St. Patricks Day. Its still stuck in my head. And I LOVE IT!!!!!!
WhooHoo! Happy ST.Patties day to you and God Bless you!!!You have the most amazing sound,I really enjoy it,hope the fact that Im part mexican and Irish from My dad,and in the army national guard still brings me some luck, any way your the best!!!!
:O Can this sort of stuff come with practice at all? All i can say it pure fuckin talent. :) very nice work. better than how francis rossi plays on it the 25th aniversary lol.
Brilliant stuff!!! i'd love to hear you and ryan cavanaugh and chris grotewohl and leon hunt play some irish stuff together in a massive 5 string jam! keep up the terrific videos and music!
bloody great, the way you are sittin you look really relaxed, i have an ocarina and i am (tryin to) play this song, it sounds better on a banjo, but pretty nice on an ocarina. keep up the good work
