as a fitter yes he was retracting the boom in but yet the main control cable controls all the boom and main electronic pannel so he could not retract as you can see the fitters are working on the problem but yet but yet the hoist rope would not snap in any way as its left handed lay steel cable okay maybe a bit unsafe around the crane but id do it only suggestion i could of really made to stop that block from swingingis release pressureout ogf the main ram which is still dangerous

Not to be rude but i dont think you know what you are talking about he is not using a jib. A jib is a extension boom that attaches to the end of the main boom and is used for relatively small weights. It is also very possible that the hook falls off the wire IF the wire breaks and the way that hook was whipping and twisting i wouldnt be very comfortable be around it

No reason this couldn't have been avoided. Where I worked that crane would have been red tagged to see what damage the block did to the boom. The last thing you wanna do is start beatin' on the boom like that.

I used to come unglued on carpenter/laborers who let the spreader bar hit the boom.

Crane is on a barge, it should have been reeled in a bit more using the over ride to bring the block in. That can damage the lines, then they would have to be re-spooled. Morons! you never let the block do that.

Lowering the block would be better once it was in motion as the frequency and angle of swing would be reduced, and there would be increased clearance between the stick and block. Also, the waves still coming in may have acted to damp the swing if enough rope could be let out to reach twice the wavelength as the top of the mast would then be moving in the same direction as the block at the same time, with the middle of the rope moving in the opposite direction.
