@smittsteve04 Because FL Studio is limited in comparison to what programs like Live, Reason, or Logic can do and FL's VST's are low quality. FL is to these programs as Smooth Jazz is to Miles Davis.
it what ways is fl studio limited? it can import every vst you would use on live or logic, and reason has great built in pluggins but your cant import any 3rd party pluggins (that's a huge deal-breaker for me)
dude I like your tutorials you don't preach like djvespers, LOL, who just got a life coach to pretensiously tell us all how to be spiritual and enlightened HAHA ,he appears to be preaching to teenie boppers. Your vid are to the point without pretense.

Other tutorials always seem to skim over the most important basic feature...the relationship between Session & Arrangement view and how to navigate between them. Also, an overview of clips & scenes. Thanks for helping connect the dots.
im using ableton lin last 10 months. now im pro with this. i can do everything i want. there is almost no problem. most of my friends using logic fl and other stuff they always complain about their DAW. i found out ableton was the easiest one. i used to use fl 6. so i didn't learn anything from fl at all. when you go to ableton's arrangement view, you will see your whole idea when you just open that shit up! its very fast and easy to put your idea right away into your project in ableton.... A+++
@jocopa3 hahaha quite the contrary i'm in the process of switching from fl10 to live. when the project gets large i find working with fl10 a total mess. to each his own though!
@guitarsalert When i got the lite version with a keyboard i opened it up and thought wtf is this shit. Im into rock music so i thought it was gay. Then i started using it and its really good once you get into all the effects and metering and analyzers. You can run audio units from other apps like logic pro. Its pretty good just takes a bit to get the hang of., better than protools thats for sure.
Thank You Ruta47!! I've been trying to understand the sequence / song breakdown as it works in Ableton and after watching your video I believe I have it!! cheers!!
They are all superb but for me live was the most intuitive. I was able to jump straight in there and make music. I also find live the best for creativity.
For me though, studying how to use them all and delving deeper into the programs is half of the fun and I'm constantly surprised at the power of all of them.

I wish I could dowload this to my brain,, Ableton is by far more aesthetically pleasing than most other daws, I want to use Record with Ableton, but now I have to relearn another daw,.. what's the studio advantages as opposed to live.?
@tintala I have been using Reason Record for a few months now and I think it's great. If you already have your head around Ableton, record should be a breeze. You can use Rewire to link the 2 (Ableton as the host/Record as the slave). It makes for a truly powerful combo.
to all the high school dropouts who are having thier brains "melted"...... bro, this the most simplest and aesthetically pleasing music program out, i used it since middle school, grow up and educate yourself on how to use it before you complain, sorry you wernt born with ableton pre-programmed in your brain, or more obviously a computer in your house
@SkaterSlashGamer I wouldn't hate too much, I think they don't have much experience in this type of shit. I don't have this program yet, but I get the picture for the most part.; but I've been doing this type of stuff for awhile. And some of this shit can be confusing. However, the more you're working with it and experiment the easier it should come. And especially if it comes wIth some help/or troubleshooting advice.

hello, hope you can help me, how do i input in a clip, a note from the bottom of my keyboard, then join the note with another note at the top of the keyboard, creatting a siren effect please? PS. i only use midi
@skywalkmangeforce To make a siren effect (in the style of techno) make an 8 bar note on your clip then press the clip envelope button (thats the little "E" button in the clips down left corner) then click the "Pitch Bend" button and automate the red line to go from all the way down left corner to all the way up right corner. I think you can alternatively do this just with your keyboard by holding down the note and using the keyboards mod wheel.

Ok, I found a possible conclusion to my thoughts. I just might like Ableton after all. Creating clips caught my attention and is a feature that other DAW's do not offer. I'm not a proficient keyboard player so creating a complete keyboard arrangement in clips is a nice feature. So, now that you have all your clips ready to record in the arrangement view, you're suppose to click each clip individualy in the order of the arrangement, that's difficult with a lot of clips. Can u just clik one time?
I don't know, it seems to me every song in every tutorial sounds the same. The drums sound cheesy like a pencil tapping on a desktop. I've yet to hear any punch in any instrument, it all just sounds so damn cheesy cheap. If your creation ends up sounding just like another person's creation, what's the point. Maybe it's just the crapy DJ or Hip-Hop sound that makes it sound so boring. I'm not sold yet. I've messed with Cubase and Presonus and the instruments are more professional sounding. Ahh.
@stratcries I used to feel the same way, It felt like every sound was something I would hear in an elevator or something made on fruity loops. I have a buddy who uses ableton all the time, and I was blown away with what he does. He makes dubstep/house music and his sounds are very bassy and very thick. Ableton does have potential, it just takes a little bit of work. Figuring out where everything on ableton is, is a hard task but I've definitely heard professional songs done on this program
does anybody have live lite 7 working on windows 7? it says runtime error when I try to run it... I really need some help, please. It's a Line6 version that i got with the Line6 ux-2.
made an own minimal track with ableton =) would be great if you would watch it and tell me what you think about it! (My New Ableton Live! Project 2.0 )
@YOUNGBLOODBEATS i think ableton is the most versatile. but reason has some more advanced features, and fl has its own benefits. You really cant go wrong with any one of those. Take a look at producers who make the same genre that you want to produce, and that will help decide. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter which one you use. I'd also recommend Cubase if you can get it. Personally, I can see my self getting Cubase in the near future.
dude stick with it. learning is hard . but when you do have it learned you can get your music down very very fast . that for me after all this time is practically a miracle. i know you didnt ask for this speech but i love live :)
I come from using a 8 track tape recorder so if you imagine how strange this is for me.
I just don't 'get' the whole (scenes) thing where you record bits of music then trigger them into a final recording. Im used to sitting there with an instrument for like 3 to 7 min and recording from start to finish.
Does ableton sync up say a live guitar with a live drum pad recording?
@solarwinter86 solar its like making little clips and then joining it all up together by firing them off in sequence (its really really cool check it out). The upshot here is if you have lots of different ideas for different parts of the tune you have them all there in front of you and you can try them all out to see whats best. Its sounds a bit mad but im serious its genious.
@solarwinter86 its really simple.. ok you can either A. record dif clips (drum loops...bass lines...lead loops..one shot samples..etc then you trigge rthem on the fly while recording in real time (After you have made all the parts. or B. simply go the arrangement page...pick an audio track..set the inputs to your inst inputs (if using actual inst) and press rec and start recording. So you have two ways of getting your music down.
@mynus303 The clips are fun because yu have ALL of your parts there ready to trigger in real time you can basically "jam" with all of your clips.... or you can do it old school and record track by track.(like an old 8 track) understand? if not ask me ive been using logic reason live and pro tools for over 10 years peace
@vanzahn I really don't know what your background is, but compared to a lot of the pro software I've used, this is ,. by far, the most intuitive apps for me anyway. Especially once I tied it to my maudio axiam. Once I had my tracks set, hooked to the keyboard, it was like it didn't exist.
@spacer77 i hear comments very much like yours all the time concerning Live and how user friendly it is, but compared to other audio apps i'm familiar with (including hundreds of hours with studio Logic, Fruity Loops Pro, Cakewalk and cuebase) i found it to be utterly unyielding and inflexible. It's bizarre that most feedback concerning this program seems to reflect the opposite of my experience. It's pretty gutting cos i found every stage of it's implementation & use to be an utter nightmare.
Van, I'm with you all the way. It's a struggle to do the simplest things on ableton. I want to like it, but I just don't. The workflow is so silly and counter productive.
I just got Live 6 lite for Christmas. I have NO IDEA how to creat a MIDI track. Are there any tutorials out here for a total newbie? I just have a new MIDI keyboard and the software came in the box. Looking to make it work. Thanks
dude i took a class in college with one of the worlds' best ableton users as my teachers and ill tell you...its a complicated program for the fact that there are infinite possibilities...but what i will tell you is that you can go online and look up the hot keys and external gear syncing online. knowing the hot keys will help you amazingly much
@WynGator check out youtube and search ableton and you can find the Ableton live page on youtube which has a bunch of tutorials that will give you the basics and you can go from there. the basics are pretty straight forward. anything beyond that is up to your imagination
lOlz im asking the same question ..ill send yu abelton live 8 dont buy it .. wel figure this oUt together when yu get info let me know and when i get some info ill let yu know .. ima add yu as friend
i can help you out there. i have an akai mpk 25 and an akai apc 40. you can use any midi controller. i just prefer akai cuz their pretty rugged. i use my mpk 25 to create the clips and the apc 40 to arrange them into a song. check out some tutorials and you'll see what i mean. i could use a copy of ableton though. i only have a trial version. hope this helps give me a shout if you want. be glad to answer any other questions
im selling Sonar 8 producer on myspace page for $50 i send it to u as a attached file to yo email address so that u can download it to yo computer and install it instanly after u buy it sonar 8 is the best recording software on the planet they use sonar 8 producer to make commercials and the music industry leading artist music it have all the plugins u need to master your songs and create effects to yo vocals like none other program can do
Thats some serious Fuckin Elevator music you made for the demo mate Hahaha. Cool tutorial though, I got some good tips and ideas out of this. Thanks. Cheers, IC.
ableton looks like it could have alot of potential.. i just hate the look of the arrangement screens.. makes it confusing as hell to follow or understand.
@akarc24 it quickly makes sense, trust me i was the same way before i started working with it, then after about a week it makes it even easier than that on like reason or fl.
Isn't this unoriginal though. It's good to use if your a hobbyist, but if you want to compose for TV or tracks for CD this is not going to do it for you. What's the point of dragging a bunch of stuff that other people make and call it yours.
Who says other people made the music? It could be your own loops, created through a midi keyboard for example using the vast array of instruments that ableton includes or a VST instrument for example.
Yeah, he is just using the preset audio samples. But you can mostly record your own audio samples into this, or even osulate your own sound from one of the synths. I make all my music from Ableton, only using my own sounds and samples
hmmm yeah logic/cubase/pro tools are powerful but for me at least the fact that live contains everything you need and its not hidden or clumsy means that its alot better for making music.
Recording artists or for bigger things logic all the way :D
ableton is better in making music then just radom loops behind other mixing its and its better 4 life use you got more effect its better in a way to make full songs and its way and way easyer :D enough exsamples ??
sweet thanks, i got live 6 a few weeks ago i havent installed it yet, cuz i thought it might of been a weak program but now im excited. would native instruments work on here??
well said. That applies to everything though, if you don't know how to use it of course you'll think it sucks. I don't use Ableton because it's way confusing. I'm a FL User hehe

I just don't 'get' the whole (scenes) thing where you record bits of music then trigger them into a final recording. Im used to sitting there with an instrument for like 3 to 7 min and recording from start to finish.
Does ableton sync up say a live guitar with a live drum pad recording?
solarwinter86 1 year ago
@solarwinter86 solar its like making little clips and then joining it all up together by firing them off in sequence (its really really cool check it out). The upshot here is if you have lots of different ideas for different parts of the tune you have them all there in front of you and you can try them all out to see whats best. Its sounds a bit mad but im serious its genious.
joeyxl3456 1 year ago
@solarwinter86 its really simple.. ok you can either A. record dif clips (drum loops...bass lines...lead loops..one shot samples..etc then you trigge rthem on the fly while recording in real time (After you have made all the parts. or B. simply go the arrangement page...pick an audio track..set the inputs to your inst inputs (if using actual inst) and press rec and start recording. So you have two ways of getting your music down.
mynus303 1 year ago
@mynus303 The clips are fun because yu have ALL of your parts there ready to trigger in real time you can basically "jam" with all of your clips.... or you can do it old school and record track by track.(like an old 8 track) understand? if not ask me ive been using logic reason live and pro tools for over 10 years peace

Me too. I'm so sick of people saying how intuitive and easy it is to use. It's just not.
vanzahn 1 year ago
@vanzahn I think when people say that, they mean its simple compared to other production programmes.
robtallent 1 year ago
@vanzahn I really don't know what your background is, but compared to a lot of the pro software I've used, this is ,. by far, the most intuitive apps for me anyway. Especially once I tied it to my maudio axiam. Once I had my tracks set, hooked to the keyboard, it was like it didn't exist.
spacer77 1 year ago
@spacer77 i hear comments very much like yours all the time concerning Live and how user friendly it is, but compared to other audio apps i'm familiar with (including hundreds of hours with studio Logic, Fruity Loops Pro, Cakewalk and cuebase) i found it to be utterly unyielding and inflexible. It's bizarre that most feedback concerning this program seems to reflect the opposite of my experience. It's pretty gutting cos i found every stage of it's implementation & use to be an utter nightmare.
vanzahn 1 year ago
Van, I'm with you all the way. It's a struggle to do the simplest things on ableton. I want to like it, but I just don't. The workflow is so silly and counter productive.

I just got Live 6 lite for Christmas. I have NO IDEA how to creat a MIDI track. Are there any tutorials out here for a total newbie? I just have a new MIDI keyboard and the software came in the box. Looking to make it work. Thanks

dude i took a class in college with one of the worlds' best ableton users as my teachers and ill tell you...its a complicated program for the fact that there are infinite possibilities...but what i will tell you is that you can go online and look up the hot keys and external gear syncing online. knowing the hot keys will help you amazingly much
Moshwell 2 years ago
@WynGator check out youtube and search ableton and you can find the Ableton live page on youtube which has a bunch of tutorials that will give you the basics and you can go from there. the basics are pretty straight forward. anything beyond that is up to your imagination

i can help you out there. i have an akai mpk 25 and an akai apc 40. you can use any midi controller. i just prefer akai cuz their pretty rugged. i use my mpk 25 to create the clips and the apc 40 to arrange them into a song. check out some tutorials and you'll see what i mean. i could use a copy of ableton though. i only have a trial version. hope this helps give me a shout if you want. be glad to answer any other questions

ableton looks like it could have alot of potential.. i just hate the look of the arrangement screens.. makes it confusing as hell to follow or understand.
akarc24 2 years ago 21
@akarc24 it quickly makes sense, trust me i was the same way before i started working with it, then after about a week it makes it even easier than that on like reason or fl.

@akarc24 This is an old Ableton. The new one looks a lot, lot better.

Isn't this unoriginal though. It's good to use if your a hobbyist, but if you want to compose for TV or tracks for CD this is not going to do it for you. What's the point of dragging a bunch of stuff that other people make and call it yours.
NathanLee0921 2 years ago
Who says other people made the music? It could be your own loops, created through a midi keyboard for example using the vast array of instruments that ableton includes or a VST instrument for example.
HotAsYouLikeIt 2 years ago 3
Yeah, he is just using the preset audio samples. But you can mostly record your own audio samples into this, or even osulate your own sound from one of the synths. I make all my music from Ableton, only using my own sounds and samples

How does Ableton differ from MAGIX music maker software?
ShoppingBargains 2 years ago
Ableton's better
moneymadman398 2 years ago
okay but in what way?
examples?
ShoppingBargains 2 years ago
well it's top rated. more artists use it than anything else. umm.... yeah.
i think the only other music software that compares to ableton's awesomeness is reason.
but yeah. everyone just thinks it's better and people just use it more.
moneymadman398 2 years ago
reason's just a big vst really though
evanisgreat 2 years ago
reason does not support vst's. so reason is good with the sounds it has, but if you want to add your own vsts...go with something else.

and obviously logic pro. but thats only if youtr a mac user, which i'm not, but credit given logic is amazing.
Kasharicdaims 2 years ago
hmmm yeah logic/cubase/pro tools are powerful but for me at least the fact that live contains everything you need and its not hidden or clumsy means that its alot better for making music.
Recording artists or for bigger things logic all the way :D

ableton is used by proffesionals
fazkool1 2 years ago
ableton is better in making music then just radom loops behind other mixing its and its better 4 life use you got more effect its better in a way to make full songs and its way and way easyer :D enough exsamples ??
RemcoMusic 2 years ago
Yes, it does look more sophisticated than 'music maker' but does it have voice or text to speech in male and female voices to create lyrics?

Who the hell uses that for lyrics? :o

ableton live is actually really easy to use. Its click, drag instrument, double click a slot for a new clip. Its great!
I like it better with logic. It works hell of a lot better on pc, butgotta love the macs.

if you dont like ableton live, you have not learned how to use it. simple as that. learn it, and learn it WELL. you will fuckin love it.

sweet thanks, i got live 6 a few weeks ago i havent installed it yet, cuz i thought it might of been a weak program but now im excited. would native instruments work on here??

yea i was wondering the same, if like my microkorg's presets would work on it
eskimoDOMINIC 2 years ago
yea mate native instruments would work a treat with ableton. looking to get komplete 5 myself. pretty pricey though but definatly worth it
EternalJunglist 2 years ago
well said. That applies to everything though, if you don't know how to use it of course you'll think it sucks. I don't use Ableton because it's way confusing. I'm a FL User hehe
