I would say this is more of a beginner sig. Nice job though. You should have added commentary so that people who don't know what they are doing could follow along.
fgreat tut dude just a tip with one color backgrounds just use color pick tool and go select>invert then cut it make a new layer paste it then anchor layerand save as .png then add to gimp!
i hope you know that you didnt have to cut him out right? you could of removed the background first since its all one color.

it opens but once it reaches the loading for fonts it bucomes unresponsive.
