@niknak987 Businesses have their interests at heart. So what? The profit motive enables them to make expensive items cheaper and of greater quality. That happened w/TVs, radios and computers. The public option was just a Trojan horse to universal health care and frankly gov is the prob of health care, not the solution. Gov run health care means equality, which means the nadir of quality. Best quality comes from market competition which gradual improvements by entrepreneurs.

Our schools are among the mostly costly yet least successful in the Industrial world. Gov regulations & subsidies turned the airlines into gov-funded dependencies that get complaints galore from consumers. Gov can't do anything right in the economic sphere. The private sector is far superior at serving the people.

Ray Kroc, JC Penny, Condoleez Rice, Clarence Thomas, Thomas Edison, Zachary Taylor, Harland D Sanders and numerous others came from poor and destitute backgrounds to become wealthy. It's not about altruism, but self interest granted, but it has been done countless times & continues to be that way. Just have a good attitude, work hard and go the extra mile and you can do it. Gov can't.

@niknak987 Yes, it is self-interest and not altruism. As Adam Smith stated, the pursuit of the common good really hasn't provided much good except charity. Entrepreneurs serve the public for profit by minimizing costs and maximizing quality to compete with other entrepreneurs. Minimal costs means max profit and most affordable even for the poorest. Max quality means best for everyone including the poorest. The profit motive caused that, not gov, which just fails in every economic endeavor.

FDR's policies were failures, b/c there was NO growth in the 1930's and unemployment remained double-digit despite spending. Yes, FDR was a Keynesian per his policies, but he build his policies directly upon Hoover's including cooperating w/him when he was gov of NY state.

Talking about race and being racist are two totally different things. Blacks do make less on average, have less schooling on average, and die younger on average than whites.
