My husband could play chess with adults when he was 2+ and went to competition when he was 3. He doesn't even get praised that much for it, it's the environment as everyone around was playing chess too. My teacher's grandchildren performs violin on stage when they were 3 because their whole family are musicians. It's better to be humble as kids gets lazy after you praise them too much. Average kids can all do well if given the time and effort to nurture them.
well english is my tertiary language which i never even learned in school, i learned it from movies with subtitles and the internet... so excuse me for not beeing perfect in your only language.. asshole
My mom thought I could read snow white at the age of 1 year and 8 months, but then found out I couldn't actually read yet, and I just memorized the whole thing because it's my favorite story book...
Anyways, you people should say such mean stuff just because you're having an inferior complex. And I'm all for free speech and all that but, what some of you are saying are just plain cruel and rude...

Meh. I could count past 100 at age 3 and i could read harry potter at 6. I was trying to read it to my overly religious cousins, but they said it was blasphemy! XD
what a smart little boy, congragulations. people dont have to watch these videos, but to make themselves feel better, they watch it, and because they think everyone is going to agree with them they post an absurdly rude comment. But i give props to parents and especially the little guy. Keep it up <3
this is how i was at the same age my mom had a video of each thing like abc's numbers words the only thing I didnt know was sports like cricket and polo.
If the kid wasn't happy with what his parents are doing for him, he wouldn't just say he didn't like those baby pictures; He'd say he'd hate the whole damn book.
It is a great thing that your child is doing so well with reading. I too have a child is has a great love for reading. He reads the yellow pages, signs, shop logo's, car names, new papers. I wonder if your child is like mine. Loop sided. My son 23 mths has been interested in reading for the the last 2 mths but has not mastered othered basic skills like ride on bikes, trikes? Could you let me now if your son is well rounded.
This isn't all that uncommon, but that doesn't make him any less of a genius. Early reading skills are prominent of children who go to a montessori-type school, especially at an early age. But still, this is amazing and congratulations to the parents. Hopefully he'll be able to do something great with his intelligence.
My godson was like that. He was also reading at age 2. By 3 he was doing math equivalent to what a 1st or 2nd grader would be doing. He is now 10 and is basically on the level of someone in the 12th grade or 1st year of college. Unfortunately, as these children get older, it becomes difficult to offset boredom in school. This is something my friend (his mother) is now dealing with.
Hi, I was extremelly impressed with Eric. I am very curious to know what it the enviroment and the nurturing rutine for a boy to develop this way. If you can please write and coment more about how he learns all those things. Does he comes up with questions out of the blue, or are they related to the books you choose for him? Does his knowledge comes from the books or information he receives from parents, or is it just that you don't know? Please, tell us, so that we can do better with our kids.
My son started reading at age 2, he could read the newspaper, pretty much anything you put in front of him, was able to count and so on, anyway we figured our boy was a genius!!! As it turned out, he's grown into a pretty bright guy, however not a genius, probably above average, but he seems to be a good person. I guess that's most important thing.
Wow you remind me when I was young. I started reading Harry Potter in first grade XD Keep of the good work of raising him! He's gonna be a smart kid hopefully! Nothing can help your mind and keep you occupied through life like Literature. It's my favorite subject! Best one too ^_^
At first thought he just had the book memorized, but as he gets more into it you can tell he is actually reading it, from the way he talks. He's definitely a smart kid:) I'd love to see a video of him counting or something. He reminds me of me;) I was doing math including simple addition and subtraction of fractions by 3 1/2 years. I don't remember when I started to read, but it was somewhere between 2 1/2 and 3 years.

That's real smart, teaching a kid to read before he can talk properly
jmc8197 4 years ago
Your child either has it or he dosn't. It is the parental support that is needed for such gifted kids. kids like that more or less teach the parents.

Is he decoding, or is it memorised?
It's certainly a very familiar text.

If he's teaching advanced physics at 8 like Sidis then consider calling him a genius.
