A lot of this "nowadays"-talk is nostalgia imo, Lupe is one the best (perhaps the best) scholar with a mic Hip Hop ever had + has extreme versatility, amazing flow, freestyle skills etc.

But I agree on 1 thing: Overall, oldschool was more about being witty with your lyrics and real, not as many fake gangstas getting fame back then.
