  • I wish he would just use a fully upgraded MPC 3000, it's a good step up from the 60 without it being too "unlimiting" so to speak. It would offer a nice balance for his music now which is all made on the computer. Even a full 2000XL would be fine, but really after those MPCs were still good but too much IMO.

  • He should never have stopped using the MPC. Since he started using DAWS a few years ago his music has suffered. Its totally obvious to me what's happened. He took years and years of a method of working and threw it in the bin. His limitations with the MPC are what made his music so good. Now that he has no limitations you can hear the apprehension and lack of direction in his newer stuff. A real shame because this guy has a lot talent but has allowed technology to ruin his karma,

  • DJ Premier still uses it to this day, people criticize him for that. That MPC-60 made me a fan of Premier and inspired me to make music. It's good to expand your horizons but you shouldn't have change for nobody. I know this is a DJ Shadow video but I just had to put it out there.

  • Dj Shadow is the shit! I fucks with anything he puts out! This dude is so under the radar...I have no idea why because he makes real fuckin music!

  • SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE HIM A MICROPHONE

  • Saw DJ Shadow in Brighton.

Well worth the trip, Shadow sphere FTW

  • ...Like watching Davinci with his paint brush. What a phenomenal ear for music this man has.

  • Crap soud. Get serious people.

  • dope

  • Check 4, Beats by Wallace Green

  • Thanks for the video. I enjoyed Introducing and those early Mo wax sides. When he said he Paris helped him buy his 60..that blew me away. I used to really dig the production on "sleeping with the enemy" moreso than the lyrical content. Does anyone know links of what exactly he produced on the album? did he do "back in the day"? This may be redundant questions? It's also interesting to see an artist get so caught up in their own Media Mythos. He seems a bit sad these days.

  • /watch?v=ypGMS3E-Bfs

this is something i made.... please give feedback.... if you listen to dj shadow's music sure you've got sincerely good taste ;)

  • am i the only one that started to dislike this guy as the interview went on? he uses the mpc as a midi controller? then he sez they he just got it back a week ago?it sounds (and looks) like his friend got more use out of it then him!haha

  • @CeSektion He's not talking about using the MPC60 as a midi controller. He's talking about the midi controllers that Akai makes that are the sixteen MPC pads that trigger sounds from a computer (model #'s MPD18, MPD24, MPD26, etc.). If you know anything about how Entroducing... was made, you know that he only used the MPC60 he's pictured with and a sh*t ton of records. Clearly you haven't done your homework on DJ Shadow

  • @theanalogsound I assume when you say "he's pictured with a shit-ton of records", that you're NOT referring to the album cover, cause if you knew anything about Endtroducing, you'd know that he ISN'T on the cover. Clearly you haven't done your homework.

    Quit being a douche.

  • @theanalogsound nope i dont study up on dj's... i shouldnt have to study up on him he should word his shit right in the interview..

  • @CeSektion well, if you don't study up on dj's, I'm not sure why you'd complain about a video interview with DJ Shadow, clearly he's A DJ!...and his wording in the interview is right, you just misunderstood.

  • an old akia sampler and novation bass station and your set

  • how do you create a new program on the mpc with your own transferred sounds?

  • i bought endtroducing two nights ago, last night i smoked a fat L and laid in bed and listened to it

my mind was blown so hard. this man is a genius.

    GET THE ALBUM

  • Good call dude, many smoked out nights have been had with Endtroducing in the headphones lol

  • @goredsox1792 took your advice and it blew my mind the record is fucking awsome

  • @jad1793 wordd up

  • @goredsox1792 Loaded it, heard it, loved it, bought it

  • good to see one of the most classic of albums is still bringing in new heads. enjoy mate :)

  • @ThePhatrob1 no doubt! that was actually almost 2 years ago and since ive listened to all of shadows work quite intensely. for a loooong time he was all i could listen to haha, he taught me a LOT about beats. he remains one of my heroes and still amazes me when i drop one of his albums in. i remember when i posted that comment, my life was so changed after hearing that first cut. changed the way i thought about music

    peace!

  • wtf was the point of that video!!!!!!

  • OMG 20 years...

  • I must be goin deaf coz I'm strugglin to hear this!

  • i really wish i could get my drums sounding like his in endtroducing

  • true indeed, me too!

  • this would be a cool video if i could hear everything he said

  • you can get that thing fixed. take it to a college tech class

  • You are correct haimolvania. Because why would we bother.

  • im right ur all wrong. still.

  • He said he only uses it as a MIDI-controller now. Triggering samples from his computer, on the pads, how do you hook that up?

  • MIDI cable and program through your DAW, if that's what you're using.

  • holy shit, he's got levels, like Kramer

  • DJ Shadow is a good turntablist, he appears in Scrath the movie

  • Why do people want to rip eachother up on this.. Just watch the videos and comment on the VIDEOS!! So many people want to come off as having all this knowledge... Man fuck that!! It shows in your work... DJ Shadow is the SHIT!!

  • interestingly enough, my personal theory is that nobody on the net actually knows anything.

people that know their stuff don't usually comment on youtube video.

    so there you go...

  • @hailmolvania good theory

  • nothing like a mpc60

  • Thats sick that he produced beats for Paris back in the day, i have much more respect for him than i did

  • man i bet half of u wouldnt even know trhe difference from mp3 or vinyl inless u could hear the cracks who give s a fuck whut it is how can u deny a dope beat hip[ hop is everything, use whut u have fuck the haters

  • Preach my man. these youngins wouldn't no vinyl if it hit there supped up tuners.

  • Um dude who asked you and your opinion doesn't matter. You're just another YouTuber. *fag*

Jokes aside.. ner ner , did u get that frm year two, XD

    dweeb

  • SAmuRAiJaKK -

You dont know what you are talking about. To the untrained ear mp3 might sound the same as vinyl, its not ...it one 10th the size, that 90% that is thrown away contains what is called harmonics these harmonics make the it sound warm and contain the bottom end of the base.

You are totally incorrect, you should read up on a subject (compression) before hurling abuse at someone who has commented on it.

Im not trying to diss you just correct, also vinyle is vinyl & not wax m8.

  • lol ok but what are you correcting apart from saying wax, which is like slang for vinyl? i know mp3 is compressed

but ok thanks for informing me anyway

  • Do beat machines have cords that need 2 be hooked up 2 a socket

  • not if its midi, just use a usb cable

  • lol, an mpc 60 wont have a Usb cable. It's all MIDI cables and stereo ins/outs etc. no computers.

  • i honestly dont rememebr saying that and why i would is a mystery to me, i have the akai mpd24 which is usb but i know that the mpc does not... strange. Peace BIZZY

  • I AM THE SHIT ON THE MP60

  • That sample is used on a sage francis song too..

    cant remember which one...

  • I have no idea how he made Entroducing on an MPC 60. It must have taken ages.

  • that's cool that the one in the video is the actual MP he used to make the album. it should be in a museum someday.

  • I think dan tha automator helped him out with a really old version of pro tools or some shit when he was making it.

  • it was mastered at dan's studio

  • so the guy fully posts it again.

  • nice interview

  • honestly the newest MPC you can get is much more worth it in the end the touch-sensitiveness is wayyyy better on the newer ones havent seen the 5000 yet tho

  • please stop

  • mp3s suck. Id rather buy 3,900 records, and sample them.

  • I think a good beat can't be made

with mp3, cuz it's not pro to make that, but the CD quality is exelent and when you extract music from it, you can choose the highest quality...

So what's the differences with vinyl? Just cracks and pops (like you can hear with first primo and mobb deep beats) and samples that sounds "older and true"?

  • vinyl has a special sound, this sound is raw, organic and dirty. this sound is hip hop! mp3 are compressed format for mp3 players..its junkfood! its the way vinyl sounds, and (important) the way you have to work with vinyl, that makes that special sound.

  • Agreed a 110%

  • When music is digitized, all the extreme highs and lows (treble and bass) are reduced, giving you a flatter sound with a slimmer range. Thus, you don't get the variation in sound that you can get with vinyl.

  • That is only true of compressed digital audio. What gives vinyl it's character is the medium and playback components which create artifacts in the signal being reproduced. Uncompressed digital audio is a lossless format and does not loose resolution on playback. But what would hip hop be without sampling from and scratching vinyl?

  • @JessesMagic so do it

  • @JessesMagic EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Correction, that is an MPC60II

  • poor audio

  • whats's that song at the end 2:50??

  • midnight in a perfect world - dj shadow

  • wow id love to see that in person

  • where do you get MPC 2500 from?

  • that shit l0oks like a cash register lol , nice yo i just started with the mpc 1000 , but before that ive experience fruity loops for bout 5 years chek me out myspace/odis3e nice video br0

  • advice on a good one to start off with anyone?

  • start off with the mpc if money is an issue 1000 but if you can start off with the 2500

  • MPC 60,,whats that? IS that the cheapest of the MPC's? Whats a MPD-24? Which is best to start with if ya new to beatmaking?

  • MPC-60 is one of the old ones. Not the first thing you should buy. Perhaps the MPC-500 is better for you, if you can stand the smaller pads it got.

  • The MPC60 was the first MPC ever released, it's widely accepted as the greatest MPC and drum machine ever made. It definately isn't the cheapest, probably the second most expensive after an MPC4000. I know DJ Premier still uses one. The MPD's are midi controllers, you can't load samples into them, they are used to control software like FL Studio, and are a fraction of the price of an MPC. They are also similar to the M Audio Trigger Finger.

  • MPC60 was the first mpc ever. The cheapest is the 500, but it lacks on features. The MPD is a midi controller to control the sounds from your computer. I'd suggest getting a used MPC 1000, for around $650.

  • what song started at 2:49. sounded sweet as!

  • its called "midnight in a perfect world", off of Endtroducing....

the sample is "the madness subsides" by pekka Pohjola

  • L4m3

  • did he play it?

  • Very well-done! -Matthew Cepican A&R Vesuvius Records

  • wow. thank u for posting this.

  • bad qualty

  • this guy had to film this from 30 feet away , yea thanks camera man

  • worldbeatmakers com

  • He's amazing, amd will always be my favorite DJ. Yay for him!

  • dj qbert own this

  • nah. dj qbert is only better in scratching, shadow is far more ahead of qbert on musical terms

  • really? wat kind of musical term?

  • i know i'm not good in english but what i meant to say is that dj shadow makes real songs with something more and qbert just makes beats and scratches on them

  • have you listened to Wave Twisters?

  • jup, just did. k, you're right, i only saw the scratching videos by qbert. i think i just overreacted, but i still like dj shadow more. (just a personal taste). you should see high noon from dj shadow. it's divine ;)

  • I saw Shadow in Sydney in 2002, and it was the best shows I've ever been too, I loved it. It's similar to his recent live dvd. I would love to see Q write more music tracks, but he gets paid handsomely for his tour shows... so I guess he thinks why have the break. :-/

  • spellings sorry :-)
