  • Hey turbo, you make your muted note sound like a wood block so well, any tips?? does the smaller size drum make for a more snappy tone?

  • @MaTtYmYsTeRiO hey, i hit the side of the skin where the fold is, and mute it really hard!

  • WELL DONE !!!

    GLORY TO GOD.

    GREAT Techniques!!! Keep it coming!!

  • thanks a lot man...

  • I seems like you are playing with a key tuned djembe. Would a rope tuned djembe sounds the same? I really like the sound coming from your drum

  • @tenordrummin360 a rope tuned is usually deeper and less bright in tone.

  • ive watched these guys a hundred times, there is so much to learn from a short video, thank you for that..

  • WOW,,,, AMAZING. !!!!!!!!!!

  • you two are great musicans with good feelings :) and this song is great

i love your playing, nice djembe and guitar and the voice is also great

  • Thank you so much! I've bought a darbuka for my church and i was looking for a few videos to teach the teens to play percussion.

Yours videos are really really good, congragts brothers :)

  • Such a beautiful overall sound with such minimal instrumentation. The vocal harmonies are very well placed, I am very impressed. Subscribing now!

  • Spectacular! I'm glad you are using your talents for the Lord.

What kind of djemebe are you using? Is it a Remo? It looks like it has a smaller head than many djembes I've seen. I love the sound. Thanks

  • @Marisssssa1989 Hi yeaup it's a 10" earth remo.

  • Spectacular! I'm glad you are using your talents for the Lord.

What kind of djemebe are you using? Is it a Remo? It looks like it has a smaller head than many djembes I've seen. I love the sound. Thanks

  • amazing!

  • Mad props to you fellas. I love that you guys are taking the time and effort to provide useful, practical tools to musicians and worship leaders.

  • you guys are so tight with your playing.. vocals are amazing... man you guys are great

  • Very nice. Thanks!

  • hello.. can you pls send me the tabs or chords for the guitar part? pls???

  • Number ONE of YouTube!

    Incredible Job, Incredible performance !!!

  • Great job! I'm a newbie djembe player and I'm learning some great worship techniques here. Keep up the good work!

  • how is it possible to sing and play at the same timeee?!

  • I just bought a djembe to work on a secular song with my kids. I have also been surrenduring myself to the Holy Spirit lately. As this song is one of my favorite worship songs, this video really showed me what I should be doing with the gift of music God has given to my family and me. Just a beautiful rendition and a very clear and humble lesson on the djembe. Thankyou for sharing your knowledge and praise be to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  • Wow you guys are awesome!!! Keep GOD first in your life and everything else will fall into place! GOD BLESS! :D

  • You're pretty amazing, and your djembe sounds great. What kind do you have?

  • nice bro.. keep it up...GB

  • i am thinking of buying a djembe and i was wondering if you think it would be loud enough to play in front of larger audiences or if its more for playing in front of small groups

  • I just want to say thanks for this video, guys. I know it was made a while ago, but I watched it over and over to watch your hands while you played your djembe and have learned quite a bit from it.

I love playing my djembe and your videos helped me learn how to do some new and interesting things with it.

    Thanks and God bless!

  • nice

  • i just have to say you are really good at playing and singing and your vids are really helpful. thank you

  • I'm having a lot of trouble with the triplet beat you talk about in the end where you use the heel of your hand as well as your fingers.. I always roll my hand instead of beating it right. Any tips?

  • steveinator,

start slow, count 1na 2na 3na 4na as you play ea stroke, make sure the spaces inbetween them are equal, increase gradually :)

  • @Steveinator100 How do you get th(pop) sound..I can only get the snare snound?? thanks

  • @skunksnag To get the poppy snappy sound you have to put a hand over the drum to keep it from vibrating and use your other hand to hit the edge of the drum. You can also alter the pitch of the snap by moving the hand that stops the vibration around. (You can see how turbochicken does the snap in the chorus)

  • thanks for the video, it´s been very useful, i was wondering if you could upload more hillsong songs lile mighty to save, at the cross desde mi interior, i dont know the name of that song in english. Also do you play bongos? cause those songs sound really good with bongos to. Anyway excellent video

  • hi samysociety, i will try!

  • hey turbochicken i love these vides thanks for puttin em up. i think im about to buy a djembe hopefully this weekend. How long did it take you to get the hang of things? i can tell muting and swipes are going to be difficult

  • hey jdrum,

it's muscle memory, so you'll need to give yourself months to a year perhaps, with constant practice, say 10mins a day, 3-4 times a wk. like how you can type the keyboard w/o looking at it, that amt of time, about there :)

  • This is really well done. I'm not religious at all, but I like everything else about this song.

  • I'm a member of our music ministry in SFC. ty for the djembe play. Gives me more idea!

  • very nice song and good ideas, but the guitar player needs to smile he looks like a zombie

  • Number ONE of YouTube!

    O.o

    Incredible Job, Incredible performance...

    *_*

  • Very cool.. What church do you attend? Calvary Chapel by any chance???

  • where is calvary chapel?

    i'm in singapore...

  • hi,,can u plz tell me where i can find the guitar chords that hub4thailand plats.can u plz reply as soon possible cause its really really importan

it's the same chords as the original from paul baloche, starting with E open chord and the B/Eb...he has them on his website. trying searching?

  • hey....i have a djembe to....really like the way you play.....keep it up......

  • Thank you for the instruction! I'm a self-taught hand drummer with an African carved Djimbe, playing in churches since 96. I now understand some of the things I was doing, and doing sloppy. This instructoin will help me tidy up my "less is more" style on the hand drum. Great vid!

  • hey nikscebba,

glad the video is of help to your ministry :)

  • Geil ohne Ende, Nur 2 Instrumente und so Klasse gespielt. Die Gitarre macht anscheinend nur 3 Griffe.

  • sorry, i don't understand you.

  • Fritz meant; superbe. Only 2 instruments and played so fantasically. It seems the gituar is played only with 3 grips.

I also love it! Simple, well done and so spiritual -- inspiration comes through!

  • OH. yes, Fritz, the djembe and the acoustic guitar go very very well together, esp for worship! (my take)

  • @turbochickenstudios only way to play any instrument (for worship) [my perma take]

oh and thanks for posting these djembe 101's. I plan on utilizing your lessons. :) You are awesome!

  • !! Two Thumbs Up ! !

  • muy bonita interpretación, que Dios los bendiga

  • świetnie! :O te djembe strasznie mi się podoba:D Świetnie grasz! :) W ogóle śliczne głosy! Brawo! ;)

  • que weon más sobrao!!

    el chinito guitarrista la lleva

  • que weon mas sobrao!

  • hmm man you have a good rhythm but you are playing incorrectly the open tone

  • hello kelvinjester,

thanks for the feedback :) incorrect, but as long as it works! (since the remo djembe is not your tradtional djembe make anyway)

  • I just recently started playing djembe with my home-group and all of your videos here have taught me a great deal. Thank you so much for sharing talents with us, its been a huge blessing. Keep on giving praise guys, you have done so much just by this.

May God keep blessing you in incredible ways!

  • hey benobian,

    thanks!

  • thanx ull hlp me a lot of playing the djembe cuz i need to play it for my church thanx ^^

  • man, yall are really good!

our youthgroup has the same kind of style,

    you're really inspiring (:

  • mt mt mt bom....!!!!!!!!!

    (very very very cooooooooooooollllllllllll!!!)

    qual é a musica?

    (what is music?)

    parabens!

    (congratulations)

  • i know you do worship...but maybe Jason Mraz - I'm Yours would be a good song to cover. a very basic djembe beat with a big fill half way through and from what i an make out not too hard on the guitar.

    please consider :)

  • hrm...very probable....

  • hey, you can sing!!

I bet you play in your church services.

May I know which church you go to?

  • hello leeoniza, i'm from singapore, are you planning to visit? :)

  • amazing work, good djembe playing!

I'm currently learning this off of what you showed at the end, so thank you.

    God Bless.

  • Thanks for sharing this with us! Very helpful. You guys are gifted.

  • that was very nice man. ur very talented. dont stop making vids! lol

  • Don't get sidetracked arguing about wood verses fiberglass djembe drums because there is no end to it. Both sound good especially juiced up through a sound system and the sound man can make adjustments to correct any concerns if he is worth his salt. The audience will appreciate both and not even think about the technical differences between the two! It's the djembe player that determines the outcome of drum sound to a large degree and I apprecriate this inspirational video!

  • hey alleyhse,

good input. however it's just my preference, after having played both types for worship (and top 40s). you're right that they're both good and the engineer can work miracles but there are definitely some differences between the 2 makes :)

  • i ordered a djembe online and its coming today! so excited, thanks for inspiring me to play such instrument!

  • hey gameon15,

nice! post some videos when you start grooving :)

  • im buying a djembe in 1 month, aroudn how much should i pay for a 10" synthetic

  • Thank you so much for doing these videos. I am learning to play guitar hoping to use it for worship and I am buying my hubby a djembe for his birthday. He is a drummer and is wanting to learn the basics he skipped and has never played hand drums so you are helping us both. Thank you so much for sharing your gifts to bless the body and praise God!

  • hello ericnlisa4Christ,

you're welcome. it's an online ministry to me. any questions feel free to email me.

    thanks!

  • nice..can you make a video playing Here in my life by Hillsong? I love this song(here in my life) so pls make a cover of it..I will be glad..Thanks very much..^__^

  • hey hidemenow02,

i haven't planned any more videos for the next few months, but will try to include that if i do!

    :)

  • ok, I'll wait for that bro.. I just thought that if you guys make a cover of that song in acoustic version and with that djembe it will be great for me to watch your video..thanks a lot.. ^__^

    \n/

  • Nice fresh rendition. Thanks for sharing your technique. All the best. GB.

  • Hello:) Great job guys!!! I love Your version of this song!!

I've just get traditionally built djembe from Republic of Ghana:) I`ve hope, it will be good for a start plays on djembe;)

  • you are a great teacher!

  • good job guys.. keep up the good work and worship...aDIOS

  • You guys are great and I really appreciate you taking the time to spread your knowledge.

After seeing this video and the other instructional Djembe ones, I want to get a Djembe. Shawn ,Is the one you use (apparently only a ten inch? ) made of fiberglass?

Thanks so much for the inspiration.

    Jim

  • hi rettolbkni,

you're right, the one in the vid is a 10" remo (fibreglass), you can google it or find it on the remo website.

    thanks for watching!

  • Do you suggest fiberglass over the skin ones?

  • in like skin better than fiberglass personally. i think it gives a warmer tone. just me though.

  • you mean fibreglass over wood djembes? fibreglass ones are more modern in tone, and easier to maintain. if you're referring to skins, synthetic ones last longer and the pitch stays better than the calf / animal skin ones.

  • my hands just can't seem to move fast enough for the'ghost fill in'.

  • hey gnoowlyrad,

how about slowing down, set a metronome (a web metronome) @ say 100bpm and play 16ths for now, take it 10mins everyday and increase 10bpm the 2nd week. when you've gotten up to speed, include the accents.

  • awesome. great direction and calm playing. My mom brought me back a djembe from Guana africa. it has goat fur around the head. The shape on the bottom doesen't curve inward as much as the other ones i see.

  • oh traditionally built, i suppose?

    rope tuned?

  • think song sounds like U2

and i stillll havent fouuund...what im lookignforrr....

    n great lessons bro.

  • Great job [; great tutorial videos for djembe.

  • Thankks!! I play in my church and this is really, really helpful

Also - Do you ever play Congas to contemporary worship? I do, and it would be nice if someone out there would share if they have any goos stuff - with a drummer, Conga quitno Tumba

  • very nice playing! also a gd and special way to evangelise! great job!

  • hi shawn, your djembe, see you on wednesday drum lessons :-)

  • Great job. I personally like this version even better than Paul Baloche's acoustic version. ^.^ Question: Are you using a Remo 10-inch (or 12-inch)? Sounds decent!

  • hey,

    appreciate the compliment :)

the one in the video is a 10inch. i think it's pretty good too, for a small drum :)

  • heyy!! i think you guys are really wow .. im just wondering does it matter what kind of drum or guitar you use to get the same beat ??

  • hi magicteardrop,

the timbre of the drum (type, tone etc) does matter, actually.

the djembe fits coz it has the right amts of low mids and highs to impress.

a set of bongos, comparatively, will be decent but not as convincing as djembe.

  • Try to translate what I will write :)

Wielkie dzięki za te lekcje, są super.

    Pozdrawiam!

  • you're making it difficult for me!

    :(

  • I'm sorry :) I'm just saying: thank you very much! I love this song (I know the polish and russian versions) and I hope I learn how to play this on the djembe!

    God bless you!

  • desde mexico muchas felicidades exelente trabajo yo soy percusionista y me encanto tu trabajo aprendi mucho .. mucho exito y gracias

  • hi,

i have no inkling on what you said, i'll try to get it translated!

  • this is alfonso from mexico con gratulation you did a really nice job i am a drumer and i really liked your job i learned a lot from you take care

  • Do you have the sheet music for this? I'm new at this and your playing way to fast for me to figure it out.

  • the groove is explained in my djembe 101 series, lesson 1.08 (alt hand accent). you can get a breakdown there.

    thanks for watching.

  • Thanks but i still cant get it i have watched and can keep up with all the videos upto 1.08 but on 8 is were i loose the ability to keep up, the accents through me off on what i'm supposed to be playing ive watched it like 10 times and cant get it

  • hi tarian,

i've put up separate videos on the different techniques used in this "open the eyes"; djembe 201: 2.01-2.04

lemme know if it's not clear enough.

  • hi hughman174,

i didn't mike the djembe bottom or have a pzm mike, just a condenser on cardoid. i depended on the reflections for the lower ends. also avoided placing mike too near skin of djembe, to allow it to capture more room sound.

    glad it's helping you.

  • sorry, one more thing. r u miking the bottom or just top of the djembe?

  • whoa! this vid is a breath of fresh air and inspiration to dust off my djembe. u guys are so gifted by God. voices are harmonized well. thanx for the post and God bless

    Stan da Man

  • hey, thanks.

i'm afraid we don't have a CD. maybe in the near future, if we have really decent material.

  • Awesome! Do you guys have a CD? That sounds great!
