4) The harp seal population now numbers around 5.8 million animals- the allowable catch is 3%(ie: Canada has a very well-managed and conservative hunt)

For starters, Paul McCartney is a vegetarian, so he is an activist for the humane treatment of chickens.
Secondly, chickens for consumers are bred and killed specifically for consumption in a humane, quick and painless way. Humans need food to survive, and one way or another we kill something to do so, whether it's chickens or plants etc.
These are wild and vulnerable seals being skinned alive, aggresively and painfully for something as invaluable as fur coats. THIS is not right.

Instead of complaining about other people not taking an education you should educate yourself. Look into what real scientists say about the subject and about sustainable harvesting and regulation of seal populations (and other wild animal populations). Look into the 1987-1989 seal invasion of mainland Norway and subsequent mass seal death by starvation.

If we don't kill the seals, they are going to wipe out the already endangered cod (which many american companies illegally fish off of our borders) also Paul McCartney did not even know where Newfoundland was the last time he was interviewed about all this. Also no one complains about the hunting of other animals.
And for the record, the few people who hunt seals do it because they NEED The money. Unless you know all the facts, back off.

There is no need to talk about the places where it has happend or about the age of this seal CHILD.
Its cruel and unnecessary to do such things for getting "fine" cloth. The time where you had to do so for surviving that way are over.
But if you keep on going to treat the nature like this further on, these times might come again.

"Baby" seals have not been part of the seal hunt in Canada for OVER 20 Years!! yet HSUS keeps telling us they are! A seal cannot legally be killed if it has a white coat. At 8 days old it is 3 times it's birth weight and WEANED.
Another lie is that harp seals are endangered. Though some species are, Harp seal pops have tripled in the last 18 years, even while the managed hunt has continued.
HSUS lies so that you send them a "donation"!

These are the facts:
1) Harp seals are not and never have been endangered
2) The harp seal hunt is done in the USA, England, Scandinavia (with EU-endorsed funds), and others (Australia) want a seal hunt because their pop's are out of control
3) During the past 4 decades, the population of harp seals has TRIPLED, even while hunting has continued
4) The harp seal population now numbers around 5.8 million animals- the allowable catch is 3%(ie: Canada has a very well-managed and conservative hunt)

For all of you stupid enough to be so sensitive about seals getting clubbed, it's that they actually try to balance things out.
If they didn't club the seals and left them mate for winters on end, they'd have a big population and eat all the fish that's there and when the population gets even bigger, they'll die of hunger.
Sure that seeing an innocent baby seal getting clubbed but without balance, things would disappear.

very good point, people miss the fact that harp seals are near the top of their food chains and have very few natural predators. They NEED humans as a reliable predator in order to keep the ecosystem in balance.

While the harp seal hunt has continued over the last 4 decades, throughout that time, the population of harp seals has TRIPLED. IT IS NOT A STABLE POPULATION.
