I rarely do a 'This character is better than that one' thing in my mind. I just have characters I don't like (which are very rare), characters that are tolerable (ones I don't hate but don't particularly like, like Dr. Light or Roll), characters I like (Mega Man or X, for example) and characters I love (Proto Man, Bass, Quick Man, Zero and so on). Never really thought to pick out a #1 character because I love all my loves. ^^" Proto Man's theme song is badass, though. Gotta give him that. X3
I'm glad that Capcom's going back to the best games in the series. Mega Man Universe, Mega Man Legends 3... what we need now is Mega Man X, maybe even Zero.
I hope more of the Classic Mega Man games will be made, too. Those games were my childhood. I still play them to this day, and I feel like they made too many plot points. It's sad that the series died off for a while, and the reboots great, but there's still questions. What happened in the Cataclysm? Are all the original characters dead?
Blues! This fits his moniker. Everyone always wondered why Proto Man played a flute, it's because he represents blues, the genre of music. Mega(Rock)man and his sister Roll represent...well, that's obvious. He was the prototype for Megaman, just like rock evolved from blues.
Zero if compared to the original Mega and Proto from the terms of mechanical bad assery and advanced systems, armor, materials and what not, would be like comparing a 2011 Mustang to a Model A car, there is no comparison aside from they have wheels :P

after that, he used protoman's design to make the first 6 robot masters.
Sorry, Sparkster, that's not how it goes. Blues was the first human-like robot ever invented. However, he had an unstable solar reactor. When Dr. Light tried to fix him, Blues ran away and went missing. Afterward, Dr. Light created Rock and Roll. The events of Mega Man 1 and 2 occurred. Before the events of Mega Man 3, Dr. Wily found the dying Blues and repaired him. After the repairs, Blues took on the name "Break Man" to hide his identity from Light.
Without telling Wily, Break Man secretly helped Mega Man defeat Wily after finding out that Wily was evil. After Mega Man defeated Gamma, Dr. Light and Wily's supposed "peace-keeping" robot, Break Man saved Mega Man and Wily from the collapse of the Wily Castle. This is when it is revealed that after Blues was to be repaired by Light, the name given to him would be "Proto Man". He is not evil, but he does not trust Light either. Instead, he stays alone, helping Mega Man whenever he is needed.

Blues! This fits his moniker. Everyone always wondered why Proto Man played a flute, it's because he represents blues, the genre of music. Mega(Rock)man and his sister Roll represent...well, that's obvious. He was the prototype for Megaman, just like rock evolved from blues.

@hamburgerjoe1 he just disappears as far as we know, he first appears in 3, then appears in 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10. After helping Mega Man on numerous occasions , he always warps away and rarely speaks to Mega Man.

proto was the first combat robot light has ever created. he had an unstable solar reactor. protoman was aware of this, but when light tried to fix him, he was afraid for him to fondle with his systems and went missing. when wily found the dying robot, he fixed him temporarily by having his reactor to swith from solar to necular.
after that, he used protoman's design to make the first 6 robot masters.

This is when it is revealed that after Blues was to be repaired by Light, the name given to him would be "Proto Man". He is not evil, but he does not trust Light either. Instead, he stays alone, helping Mega Man whenever he is needed.

He's MUCH better then Zero because A) He doesn't look like a girl and B) he isn't annoyingly overstocked with 'kewl' things to bedazzle less discerning fans (Which Zero definitely and painfully is.)
Protoman just IS cool.
Zero... rubs me the wrong way. By piling on everything from his attitude to his lightsword he just looks like an utter tool to me. Bleh...

I feel I must disagree with you... though you are, of course, entitled to your decision. I have been playing Mega Man ever since Mega Man 3 for the original Nintendo, and when I first saw Zero, yes, I thought he was girly. But when he became playable and you couldn't snipe people from a distance anymore, you had to learn to use combos to perform badass moves. ^_^ But that's just this veteran's opinion
