I'd like to get a DIAS for an ar-15, what is the correct process for getting a pre-1986 autosear that is already registered with the BATF? I want to build a wilson combat ar-15 that has select fire capabilities and a gas piston, and know that you can not build a machine gun, but once you own the registered auto sear, you can use it in any receiver that is full auto capable.
I believe the AR18 was conceived to be a less costly version of the AR15. I think the early M16 users in Nam would have preferred the 18 over the poorly introduced 16. Although the 16 is actually a good design it was not built, loaded & maintained the way the designer specified which made the perfect storm of failure.
Forget all of the arguments about "which is more powerful" or "which is more accurate." This isn't Black Ops. Two weapons with the same length barrel firing the same cartridge are going to be very, very similar ballistically.
So here's my question for the video poster: between the AR-18 and the selective fire AR-15, which did you prefer? Not even which one was better, I'm just wondering which one was more fun to shoot.
@Breakneckhydra1 Sadly this is not true. Some weapons are inherently less accurate because of their mechanisms. For instance in the AK-47 (and all its offspring designs) the bolt carrier is set off the barrel axis, thus during the weapon's cycle a lot of vibration is transmitted to the barrel causing it to oscillate and decreasing its accuracy. This is a factor independent from barrel lenght and quality, ammo type and quality and others like stock design.
It was an assaultrifle way before you were born.Designed back in the early 1960's(almost 50 years ago).
Have you seen the 1984 movie,"The Terminator",starring Arnold S. before he became the State of Ca. "Governator"?The scenes w/ the AR-18; in the gunstore,the police station shootout and when he goes to that motel.
Yeah, most Ar-15/M-16 Rifle's allow you to swap the Top receiver. So you can put like a 18Inc barrel and then swap it to a 15 inch barrel. It's like having several Rifles in 1, It's very handy.
They're OK , i'm looking at one too. Construction is below the AR , as it was designed to be produced/sold in US friendly countries that couldn't tool up for m16/AR configurations, this really never happened due to the US producing a very abundant number of m16s.
If my life is immediately threatened, I am justified to use deadly force. I won't be held criminally liable if law enforcement determines it was legitimate self defense.
I don't own the full auto rifles in the video. In the US sale of new production full automatic firearms was banned in 1986, so any full autos for sale must be "pre-ban" (made before 1986), and since there are a limited number out there, they are very expensive (and I can't afford them).
Always remember the lowflash load :) No good when your both blind and your putting rounds down a hallway / doorway when you can't see.
How many robbers break in day light ? :P
VERY nice video though, love the rifles, too bad our laws prevent owning them. Kind of sucks, but with ALL the crazies actually out there, it's probably for the better.
you'd be surprised about how many burglaries happen during daylight. think about it: most people sleep at night. where do people sleep? in their home. so if you break in at night, chances are people will be home. during the day people are at work, school, running errands, etc.
@kjsh987 If you kill someone in a legit self defence situation with any firearm its the same, also the same if you use a baseball bat, ball point pen, a sheet of paper, a drinking straw, or claw hammer.
@kjsh987 - Nope, you can use a class 3 weapon for defense. I heard a story in February about an H&K Sales rep, had an MP5 demo gun in his house, guy broke in, sales rep (good guy) shot him up. No problems :)

wats the difference between the car-15 and the m16a1?
sonofrock97 4 months ago
@sonofrock97 The CAR-15 is much shorter than an M16A1 and has a higher rate-of-fire.
FlyboyHelosim 4 months ago
PLUS it´s much louder...in the Vietnam war many officers supplied with a CAR-15 complained about that.

is the ar-15 more accurate?
emasterpiece15 9 months ago
@emasterpiece15
They are the same in accuracy.
Why would they be different when they fire the same bullet?
Breakneckhydra1 9 months ago
@Breakneckhydra1 the design counts. the cartridge doesn't say everything
emasterpiece15 9 months ago
@emasterpiece15
What do you mean "the design counts"
If 2 guns have the same barrel length and cartridge, there is no "more accurate"
One can have better placed control's, or be more durable
The first AR had what looked like an 18 or 20 inch barrel, and the second had what looked like a 14.5
so in terms of powder burn, the long barrel adds more velocity to the bullet, so it goes farther
But as for the so called "accuracy", the bullet goes where you aim if you do it correctly
Breakneckhydra1 9 months ago
@Breakneckhydra1 Straight-line stock and ghost ring sights for example
emasterpiece15 9 months ago
@emasterpiece15
It still doesn't make the bullet itself more accurate.
The gun is only as good as a shooter.
Any given day anyone can shoot a gun with "accuracy".
Breakneckhydra1 9 months ago
@Breakneckhydra1 that's obvious. i just wanted to know with wich one its EASIER to put the bullet on the center of a target
a standard full lenght AR-15 or a standard full lenght AR-18

Legal Machine guns are exempt from NFA Short barrel registration requirements. Semi auto is not exempt. I make both at my business.
Nice burst control.
thedarrenpeters 2 years ago 29
To install a barrel shorter than 16", one will need to meet NFA requirement, i.e. apply for an SBR stamp from the ATF.

dp665 3 years ago
ar-18s were designed in the 1960's to compete with the Ak-47.
so based on that and from what I've heard its a very good rifle
but its not as well known as other designs.

Ya. but the low flash will still be effective in the daylight. If you had a normal load at night time you'd be screwed
Bigboomer 2 years ago
@87bu11seye87 so even if you do not have the appropriate gun liscence to own a full auto rifle if it is pre-ban 1986 you can legally own it?
Vexzm 1 year ago
@Vexzm
There is no "gun license"
Breakneckhydra1 9 months ago
@Breakneckhydra1 i think you need a class 3 or class c lisence to own 1 right?cuz u cant just own a fully automatic weapon
Vexzm 9 months ago
@Vexzm
Nope, you only need a class 3 FFL license to be a DEALER and sell them.
Anyone can buy a full auto with no criminal record, enough money, and time.
You pay for the gun (usually they are start at around 8,000$ because it has to be pre-86 so they are rare)
Pay the $200 ATF tax
Get it transferred to a dealer near you
And start your 6 months of paper work / waiting period
Unless you live in a state like California that doesn't grant you the freedoms you are entitled to as a citizen
Breakneckhydra1 9 months ago
@Breakneckhydra1 mk well thanks can you just buy the parts to make a weapon full auto or is that considered constructing a fully automatic weapon?
