@atiboy1 no there are some hollywood marriages that have lasted longer Eva Marie Saint has been married 60 years and Charlton Heston was married 64 years when he passed away April 5th 2008 about 6 months before Paul did

@RichardElden Olivier was a good actor...but let's take a page from your book. He cheated on his first wife with Vivien Leigh, slapped the manic-depressive Leigh around from time to time, left her for Joan Plowright, was suspected of being bisexual with multiple affairs with men, had prostate cancer and died of renal failure. Not too different of a life from Paul Newman's wouldn't you say??? Are you glad about his death too?

@msserenity20121 him cheating on Joanne with Nancy Bacon has never been proven and he carried guilt for leaving Jacqui for Joanne for the rest of his life forgive him that one mistake Jacqui did you can't help who you fall in love with or when. Paul also stuck with Joanne when a lot of men would've walked away when she miscarried their first child during their honeymoon
@caligirl5285 It is commendable that they stayed together 50 years, but I think it's important to understand that this wasn't a fairytale romance. In fact both of them expressed to the press difficulties in their marriage at certain points. And Paul said he had packed up and left at one point (pointing to the veracity of the cheating allegations). Overall they just really liked each other and were able overcome problems and difficulties which is great.
He cheated on his first wife, with Joanne while she was at home with little kids. And he also allegedly cheated on Joanne with Nancy Bacon. Fairytales don't exist. I think he is basically a sweet doting guy but fallable, like all people.

@LJYO8,so he didnt cure cancer. he did however set up the Hole in the Wall gang camp and Barretstown in Ireland for kids with cancer. what do you do with your time and money to help other people? The man was/is a legend. happy birthday Paul Newman.
y'know, when i see awesome couples i unashamedly put myself in the female role or the relationship, so the guy would be married and happy with me, not the celebrity wife. but i have never wanted to imagine myself with paul newman, just because i love joanne and paul together so much. i don't want to split them up, even in my dreams.

Um I would have to disagree that she "persued" Newman. It makes it sound as though she were the nasty other woman who broke up a marriage.
According to a biography, newman and woodward had a mutual attraction while he was still married to Witte so it was not all on woodward's part why his first marriage failed. Newman had his regrets on the failure of his first marriage-- but i guess he really was happier with woodward since their union lasted fifty years...
@LJY08 yeah, and paul newman donated at LEAST $250 million to charities with Newman's Own. They've done so much for society and they weren't stuck up.
thanks for posting this it's really sweet I'd never seen it before but it's also painful to watch with today being the 1 year anniversary of his death it inevitably triggers images of how hard it's been for her to let him go after inseperable all those years
