  • Those VOX amps in the background are great.

  • That dudes arms are everywhere lol

  • @Classiccountryfan1 He hires out on weekdays as a mosquito repellant, I hear.

  • @Classiccountryfan1 and his feet & hips, his HAIR, chin & lips even! This dude is hilarious!

  • Kevin bacon widda Fro! Yo!

  • @kimonui Haha, seriously! Looks just like him, that's pretty funny lol

  • Not bad for a garage band!

  • Diese Musik ging ab wie von selbst, keine Schnörkel, einfach nur hammerhart. Ich bin dankbar dafür, dass ich als Jugendlicher die 60er Jahre erleben durfte, allein schon wegen dieser unglaublichen Musik...

  • was at a bar friday nite when the entertainment played this song....blew up the room! had everyone up...young & old!

  • me too, must be about the same age..seems like there was some great music that summer

  • He looks like Mic Jagger's kid brother.

  • I know ME covered it. Who did the original? The ME hit #2 in Billboard, 7-8-67. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great week!

  • @DaveWollenberg Song was recorded by a British group called the Little Darlings two years before ME. I can't be sure it was ever released in the US.

  • @Alikah1 Thanx for tellin' me. I found that out on Wikipedia, myself. Have a great week!

  • responsables d 'un tres beau RARE FRENCH EP .

    great !

  • Eva María se fue, buscando el sol en la playa...

  • I didn't know Kevin Bacon was in this band. Just joking, I always loved this song.

  • @SuperACEJONES LOL! Didn't see it till you said it. So true and an awesome song.

  • great song i just woke up from a dream about this song and i was curious who sang it, glad it was one of our own bands & not another british invasion tune, this is def a great memory..

  • J Lyons' strong voice gave this quasi-bubble gum band a more appealing garage band sound. Another one of those Orchestrial Singing Circus groups from Buddah Records producers Jerry Ka senetz and Je ff Katz.

  • AT THE FUCK SHOP

  • Would love to buy their gear.

  • Wow. This guy looks like Bowie.

  • this tune is still big on the northern soul seen today ! some tunes will go on forever and this is one that still lights the place up and everyone dances in the place ! great upload THANK YOU

  • we bought their first PA. Mike the Sound Mansfield Ohio

  • I can say this much the lead singer DOES KNOW HOW TO DANCE LOOK AT HIM GO IN THE VIDEO,,

  • this song was popular when I was young as I understand it the lead singer the one in this video died of heart failer and this band really started out as a garage band ,,,I dont know how many hits they had but I do REMEMBER THIS ONE,,,no one can do this song like MUSIC EXPLOISON,,,

  • WHO SAYS WHITE PEOPLE CAN'T DANCE?

  • Love the way he moves!...I think I'm in love with him...

  • I am the bass player for the Music Explosion. We did the Dick Clark American Bandstand show in Feb. 1968. I was surprised that this was broadcast in black and white. We also did "What you want" which was due to be released later that month. Thanks for all the nice comments for 5- 20 year old kids. We still perform and we always receive a great response at the beggining riff.

  • @tigerspooks That's super having one of the band members on here!!! GREAT tune...I was 2 when you guys recorded it!

  • @tigerspooks Who was the drummer on the record? He was kickin'!

  • @tigerspooks Who was the drummer on the record? He was kickin'! Did he continue his career and did he play on anything of note?

  • @tigerspooks You can't be performing this song except as a cover as Jamie died two years ago. I went to high school with him in Galion and sat near him when the Stones played at the Cleveland Barons Hocky arena. Also followed him with the Capital City Rockest and other bands. I believe his last gig was at ComFest 09 or somewhere around there. Or are you sure you're who you say you are?

  • @jmvosu I don't understand what you are saying. The Music Explosion is the band which includes Jamie. The year we recorded this video was 1968, not 2008. Jamie died in 2006. I think you are confused. I am who I know I am. I am one of the founding members of The Music Explosion. I still have our group together and we still play. Rick Nesta is the ryhthm guitarist, My name is Burton StahlI am the bass player, and when we played at the Rock and Roll hall of fame we had our drummer Bobby Tousignant.

  • @tigerspooks

I don't know where you've been, but Jamie Lyons died 2 years or so ago, not long after he played at the ComFest in Columbus. So you can only be doing covers of the songs he made his own. I knew him from Galion High School, the Snow Trails Ski, The Inferno, The Balloon Farm and Mr. Browns on High St.,

  • @jmvosu I know when Jamie passed. You are correct that is was a few weeks after the comfest. The song is the magic which was everyones group performance. I think you want Jamie to be the only one in the group and that is wrong. This song had great magic after 3 takes including overdubbed background vocals. Jamie died in Sept. of 2006. I don't know where you have been but that is a few more years than2.

  • @tigerspooks Sorry about my misunderstanding. Not trying to put the Music Explosion down as a group. I did know Jamie in school when he was kicked out for not cutting his hair. I followed you guys and the Ohio Express, Sir Timothy and The Royals, The Narzar Blues, etc, etc. So much good music around in those days. I spent 4 years in the Navy between 67-71 and came back to OSU. At that time I saw Jamie at Mr. Browns with Hard Sauce and later with the Capital City Rockets.

  • @tigerspooks Rock on!

  • I like how he got into it. One of the best lip sync jobs I've seen. This song is a real pick-me-up. Thanks ME

  • ya im touching my cock ya

  • I worked with the lead singer in myrtle beach for years he was a blast to work and had some interesting story

  • still have the 45 - one of the first I bought as a kid growing up in San Jose. thanks for the info on the group!

  • The singer has more moves than a rubber snake.....lol..good stuff though

  • I was only 5 when this was on the radio and I remember my teenaged cousin dancing to it. I so wanted to be that grown up and cool! This song and also another group had a hit called Hang on Sloopy. I was a child of the 60s but a teenager of the 70s.

  • Da Nang... 1968... The person who wrote This song was there in Vietnam with my father...

  • very straight beat, i thank god for not being born in the todays poor days of music.

  • My sister, myself and a couple of friends met these guys at a dance at Gem Beach on Catawba Island, Lake Erie the week this song first went #1 on the charts. Memories!

  • his voice is fuckin good

  • My brothers favorite song!! RIP my brother...I miss you

  • Outstanding. Where has all the great music gone.

  • First time I ever saw anybody a Trini Standard, nice

  • Thanks for sharing this video. Great song, catchy hook with great lyrics sung with gusto and feeling.

Can anyone tell me what TV show this is recorded from?

  • @doodahbagel American Bandstand with Dick Clark.

  • Great song!

  • Soul or rock?

  • @clarkbell

    It's rock with soul.

  • Great uplifting tune. I was there back in the day and I miss this music a lot. Wish it would come back so today's generation can experience real music.

  • Love the facial expressions LOL

  • Ohhhh la gran herencia de mi viejo¡¡¡ exelente¡¡¡¡

  • Bubblegum generic.

  • I was in high school when this song came. Those were really great times.Too bad many people didn't experience those days.I stll like song after all these years and so do people who weren't even born then but hear it many years later. Will anyone here listen to the songs today 40 years later and have the same nostalgia as I do,I don't think so,maybe I'm wrong. The songs today don't have the staying power as songs did then. It's just the way it is.As I said, too bad you didn't experience those days.

  • Singer moves like SNL character "Gilly" but great song. Listen to the drums! One of the great American garage rock drum lines.

  • the guy singing reminds me of Will Ferrel

  • I don't know who this singer looks more like Mick Jagger or James Hetfield from Metalica. He might not sing like Mick but he sure can out sing James Hefield. What a great song!!

  • Love the Vox amp

  • @foneBro It's the singer who made the song such a hit.Maybe this is the only song he could sing, but without his unique voice, the song goes nowhere.

  • @FRANK1FM You need to search the Music Explosion. There's at least 1/2 dozen songs from their recordings. I really love Jamie singing "little Black Egg" He really was hooked on Mick Jagger and the look and performance style.

  • Sing this song first.

  • Great stuf!! When this song came out I was 5 years old. My older brother had a 45 of this, and I just loved it! Never saw this video before, just fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

  • Many good bands came from Ohio. A local TV station had a summer program called,"Swim and Swing" and a lot of the bands were on.

  • the summer of 1967 1 was 18 and growing up in this era with this music on the beach in belmar nj was about as good as it gets. you just had to be there

  • This baby boomer @ 15, with my carry-all transistor record player for 45's and this song necking with my b/f in the park...oh these memories that even a stroke didn't burn from my mind.

  • it is a great song I love the way the guy moves his hips twards the end of the video,,

  • This song was Number One after Ruby Tuesday, Penny Lane, and So Happy Together. It's an awesome song, I like the way it builds towards the end. Early Punk Rock.

  • had a version in england...didnt chart..good tho...by iron cross

  • He got a little bit o'soul with that fro.

  • wow I was young then 12 but I remember them My home town Mansfield Ohio

  • five stars for the hair!

  • Nowadays the singer grabs ahold of his mic stand and clutches it as if he's about to fall off a roof . . . all to avoid the "what do I do with me hands" problem.

  • This song makes me feel as happy now when I hear it as when I heard it on my transistor AM radio when I was 12 years old or so!

  • Badass Vox Superbeatle amps!

  • Les Paul - 6 String electric

YES Always ... the heart of rock & Roll

  • The name says it all, “The Music Explosion.” 1967 was the year when five talented musicians from Mansfield, Ohio gave everyone some HOPE get going with a “Little bit O’ soul.” Front man Jaime Lyons took the stage with his unique style, swept everyone right from under their feet, and put down some of the most memorable and meaningful riffs of the 1960s, while Nam was hot…

  • such a great song

  • I LOVE his dances moves

  • At 0:30...Clint Eastwood scowl...

  • It's funny how "one-hit wonders" often have some of the most all-time classic songs to their credit, and this is one of the very best in that category! For a long time, I thought this was The Kingsmen. Great post --- I love these "lost" bits of video with the hundredth-of-a-second counters on them. I guess these were "safety copies" left over from the production of the original television shows or something (?).

  • The lead singer looks like a tripped out Kevin Bacon

  • LOL!!!

  • He kinda looks like Mick Jagger.

  • This was one of the first rock songs I remember as a little boy in the mid sixties.

    Great song, bad hair!

  • back in them days they had censorship couldnt say nasty things now days you can say what ever the hell you want,,but the song is a classic I used to have the 45 record,,still do,,,he had some great moves look at the hip swing twards the end of the video ,,,

  • The Vox teardrop bass is too cool.

  • PS riff4u. RIGHT. I was in a great little garage band in the late 60;s, and I couldnt afford the Vox teardrop. Settled for the Fender f-13. Still kicked ass, learned to play the bass in 5 weeks. Nice observation.

  • I couldn't afford the Vox teardrop either. I had to settle for a Danelectro from Sears........but I recently bought a Phantom Bill Wyman Teardrop Bass from Phantom Guitar works in Oregon. Yippie.

  • When this song was climbing the charts I was a little kid growing up in the Bronx. I remember some neighborhood girls singing this song and stomping to it. They thought it was the greatest song of all time. It;s one of my most lingering memories. I can still see them in my mind. It's funny how some songs can take you back. This is definitely one of them.

  • I was 15 in NORTH Dakota, and just had my heart broke. I remember this song for it's silly, uplifing message..."A little bit of soul will get you through." It did..a neat little classic.

Lead vocalist had just the right amount of "rasp" to his voice...could have been the lead for the Kingsmen Louie, Louie.

  • It's funny you mentioned silly message because at the time that's what I thought. I remembering arguing with the girls saying that can't be the greatest song ever. As I've gotten older I've grown to appreciate the song a lot more. The line You'll get a lot more kicks with a little bit of soul also got to me. I believe I was in college and hearing this again made me think the message was absolutely true. The whole world can use a little bit of soul. Thanks for replying 3Rubee.

  • Nestor, you're welcome. As we grow older, we appreciate these classics and their simple message, all the more. It's called growing older wisely , and gracefully.

  • And when you're in a mess and you feel like crying

Just remember this little song of mine

And as you go through life trying to reach your goal

Just remember what I said about a little bit of soul

    Not such a silly Message

    peace brother

  • @fanfestdhl PEACE

  • @Nestor123057 I was a little kid growing up in Brooklyn and this is also a real memory for me too.. All the WABC, WNBC music that was played at that time has such visceral memories.

  • @Nestor123057 AMEN.

  • @Nestor123057 Cool! If you don't mind my asking - What part of the bronx were you from? I grew up in the Bronx since I was two or so and I still live in the Bronx even now. I grew up in Parkchester btw - now I live in the North Bronx.

  • @Hotrodd100 I was living on the on the Grand Concourse. I live in Riverdale now..

  • Scut Farkus from Christmas Story?

  • his eyes were yellow.i swear they were yellow

  • Art Garfunkel look a like ... good singer too

  • i heard he was a good musician also

  • my dad knew this guy

  • watery it wowuld be Kevin bacon looks like him without the afro, but yeah I see the resemblamce too.But yeah music back then wasa about music, not about some queer fashion model out there acting like a moron, the music shows it too. real music real people, not guys in spandex and eyeliner vieing for a mabeline contract on the side.

  • Back then it was about the music not about being a run way model.

  • wow! what a great great song! the band was very cool! great video!

  • heheh, television before the days of onset stylists. Even sooooo, what made this guy think his hair was okay?

  • @Mungo1965 Hello Jamie Lyons the singer was a very good friend of mine. At the time he was very influenced by Jimi Hendrix. Many folks at the time wore afros...I didn't but my hair was not curly enough to hold up in an afro. Unfortunately Jamie died a couple years ago from a heart attack. Jamie Lyons was from Galion Ohio...lived in Myrtle Beach until his death.

  • nice fro :) catchy song though

  • Looks like the lead singer's from London and wants God to save his queen.

  • It does too. How rotten.

  • @BCK Jamie Lyons the singer was from Galion Ohio....but he was greatly influenced by British music at the time.

  • Thanks 4 the info kgwrld. Johnny (Rotten) Lydon is always the 1st person to come to mind while watching this. It's only fitting that this fella's name can be mentioned nearly in the same breath.

  • He looks like Kevin Bacon with an Afro

  • you damn straight he got his groove on during the song. Go ahead with your bad self Jamie!

  • Awesome song!! Love it!! One of the all time great songs from the 60's and all time. The 60's were def awesome!! just like the 80's. The 70's were great too!!

  • Any idea where any members of the group are now ?? Thanks... John

  • The lead singer Jamie Lyons, died in 2006.

  • Thanks for your reply. what about the rest of the group ?

  • I read on another posting that guitarist Rick Nesta operates a restaurant, Rocky's Pub, in his hometown of Mansfield, OH.

Another popular Mansfield group was the Ohio Express.

  • Thanks for your help too. I'll let you know what I find out about Rick.

  • @cutlasjohn25 I work for Rick Nesta. He now owns his father's restaurant in Mansfield, OH called Rocky's Pub.

  • Just met with Rick last Saturday and found him to be very nice. He signed my collectors autograph book too. Rocky's Pub is a great dining place .

  • Got a definite touch of Manfred Mann about it.

  • goofy looking dude

  • he got is groove on during the song

  • The singer looks like Chris Squire with an afro.

  • what's the deal with the drummer? did he forget his kit? So they gave him a big bongo to beat on?

  • I have a Dodge Dart 95 flate out :)

  • A gem from the Dodge Dart Era! I LOVE this 1967 gem!

  • Joey Ramone rocked this so much better.

  • the singer looks like kevin bacan

  • Its Carrot tops dad! J/K great song I remeber my adad playing all the time.

  • Ever heard of "Eva Maria" by Formula V?

  • that guy looks like mathew lilliard from the scooby do movies

  • My favorite song in the Jukebox at the Seaview pool...

  • don't know about that but certain songs take me back, you know, you remember where you were when you heard it. my mom was trying to be hip at the time by letting us listen to "top 40" am radio while she was drivin.

  • i remember hearin' this on the radio when my mom was drivin us kids to school in 1967, drivin' a '57 buick station wagon

  • i lve ur memory. did the song pump u up 4 school in station wagon?

  • Best sneer this side of Johnny Rotten!

  • i have a jamie lyons nayru shirt...one he really wore..ha!

ther rocked back in the day.

  • one hit wonder band, but what a hit it was. I have loved this song over 40 years now
