Lets be honest, Vista must have been awfully bad for Microsoft to release windows 7.

E.g. XP released in 2001, vista released 6 years later.

That is a 5-6 year gap which shows that Microsoft were "happy" with XP.

However, Vista, released early 2007, late 2006 perhaps, 2-3 years and it already has a successor!

Microsoft usually ships OS's in a 3 year span. Vista was delayed due to XP exploits MS needed to revamp XP, and security flaws. So MS turned attention from then Longhorn to fixing XP, after that was done MS restarted work on Vista. That's why it took so long. Window 7 is just on schedule.
