I just started my natural hair journey never relaxed my hair but I used to straighten it a lot. I was just curious as to whether you would say a full head weave is still a protective style? I know it may seem like a silly question but I don't see a lot of natural youtubers mention it only braids and wigs. I'm from London btw love your channel :)
Stumbled upon your vids a couple of days ago, and I'm working my way through watching all 600+ of them. I've been rocking my natural for the past couple of years now, and I am loving it (took a while tho to get comfy with upkeep). Mine looks just like yours, but yours is longer. I'm excited about your channel and what you're about, you're definitely one of my fave subscribers from now onwards. You're beautiful. Stay blessed!
Definitely Luv Luv Luv ya when I decided to go natural about 1 yr and 1/2 ago I had no clue what I was getting into but I loved the end result. I went natural because I felt I was more than hair. I Big Chopped in June after about a 6 month transition and I decided to straighten my hair for the New Year. I have severe heat damage and I've decided to do a 2nd Big Chop Next Month !!! :) So thanks for the Encouragement
LMAO@You saying some naturals think they have to walk around wearing african jewelry cause they natural. That is so true and before I went natural, that's what I used to think too. Because every natural woman/man I knew always did everything afrocentric and while I love my african heritage, I just wasn't interested in playing no drums/oboe, wearing a dashaki and all that other stuff. Don't get me wrong, I would wear some traditional african dresses, head wraps, but some stuff I just couldn't do.
thank you for this video.. im transitioning and your video has and will help me kick the negative comments and commenters in the mouth.. i love your confidence about YOU. thanks so much
If it's not an imposition, could you explain what went into your decision to get locs and then to chop them off and go to loose hair? I've been thinking of getting rid of my 10 year old locs now for awhile... just bad energy (I think...or is that "hype"?) and I'd like to know what your journey from locs to loose has been like. Thanks AE. *hugs*
@karbari It really was nothing more than I liked the way that they looked, and since I admired them I loc'd my already natural hair. After 5 years I started wanting a change, and I had some acquaintances that had gorg loose hair, so I got the itch to cut, and I did :O)
Nicely said as always!! Your words of encouragement travel father than you know simply because you speak real truth!! Truth that every sprit needs and every moment of doubt is quickly overcome with an abundance of feeling fierce!!! We need more women like you! Thank you so much :)
Please, please. What do you use to make your natural hair manageable? My hair is very coarse and nappy and very thick. I am sick of perm! When I get braid in weaves, that is the only time I see the most growth because I am not touching it. It gets it strength back. What do you use? Wait.....continued...
@sheliene12 Now I am starting to realize that many of us not all, are not educated about our natural hair and hair products because of all the perm they sell us. No one has ever corrected the perm thing and they are making tons of money off of us 'with that hair poison. "HAIR SUICIDE IN A JAR" If you ask me. Let us start learning what we were never taught about our natural black hair. Our hair grows long full and thick without the hair poison. LOL!! Love your hair. BOYCOTT PERMS!!!!
As someone who has long championed natural hair for black women in general but ESPECIALLY for us dark-skinned women with textures that are commonly deemed as unacceptable across the board, you and I are >< here. For US to declare that we are beautiful as we are made...that is a HUGE thing. And as for hair choices, I've always said "I don't care how you wear your hair...just don't tell me how to wear mine." Anyone who can't get right with that gets left behind. Keep on doing what you do!
I agree - many times people responding on youtube criticize one's hair choice. That should not bother anyone else period. I will do me and you do you :)
You speak the truth girl. I am newly natural and still learning. There is a lot to learn about my own hair and natural hair in general for that matter. I have definitely learned a lot for you in particular so thank you. Oh and I am loving your lashes, they look so natural. What kind are you wearing in this video?
Thanks for keeping it real. I'm into year 2 and was a Youtube junkie. But some things that others say are wrong work for my hair. Some things naturals seem to love don't work for me. I don't want to feel bad about that. Yes, sometimes my products are not all-natural, but that doesn't mean I don't take care of my hair. What works for me works for me. Love your vids.
I agree with you for the most part. We should not let other people dictate how we do our hair or feel about it. It is so hard to do that. Natural hair is the trend now!!! If you don't have natural hair people are looking at you like what is wrong with her. Its just hair. What is the big deal with hair anyway?
thanks girl!!!! this young woman i know who is transitioning is not getting any support from the people around her. i gave her some words of encouragement and pretty told her the same thing! i will pass this video to her!!! thanks again!!
you speak the truth AE! i still remember when i first went natural, I worked in the mall. an African woman told me she was from Nigeria and only heathens wear their hair that way..i was taken aback but that solidified my decision of staying natural..
I love this video so much. I am 18 years old and have been transitioning for 5 months. Watching this video made me feel more confident and encouragement about my decision to go natural though my family does not understand or approve. This is my third attempt to go natural because I was afraid of the response from others and the lack of support. Thank you so much ! : ) P.S. You remind me of India Arie so much for some reason.
so I'm not natural, and for me personally I have very little interest in becoming natural (in the near future) but I still watch all of your videos because you are so genuine and inspirational that your energy literally jumps through the computer screen. PLEASE continue to be a wonderful inspiration to black woman!!
HOLA!!!!!! Girl you are the vlog dealer and I am the addict. I look for your videos in the day time with a flash light!!! Preach, preach, preach!!! Continue to do what you do best!!! Much love!!
Thanks for this Vid. I can totally agree with what you are saying. I have been thinking about transitioning. Not doing a big chop but just not putting any relaxers in my hair. So the un-educated me told my sister I am going natrual. Ahhh man I done started something now. What you going natrual for your hair too thick you have to cut it first, you growing dreds????? Its my decision folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
See now this is why i F with you, I get the truth. Cut my local last yr and was getting caufht up with the vids and hair product but came to my senses on my own and stopped that craziness. Love me and myself, lol probably cause I'm 40's and don't give a shyt
I love my hair now more than ever since being 100% natural(5 yrs) but it's taken some time for me to not have it all out. I'm learning to protect it more and leave it alone~Work in progress
I really appreciative this video but I do have a question for you or any other chicas that come across this comment, why is it that some black women say I'm or other biracial mamis don't count as being natural because we might have a different texture or our hair might lay a certain way, what's your intake on that?
I love you! Seriously! Once I fully embraced this natural thing and started just doing me, not focusing on shrinkage, not fighting for uber defined curls just focusing on healthy tresses....it was like a weight was lifted off my shoulders and I just love it. Dont care who likes what, it's me and I do what I want to do with it and I love, love, love it and more importantly, I loves me some me! Hugs right back at you!
GEEZ your skin is gorgeous!!! that ourburst was SO unrelated to this hair video... but I'm just sayin... LOL. ANYWAY... as to the message in this video--HELL TO THE YEAH! I will never forget the first time I wore my hair loose with *NO* products in it. It was definitely my "THIS IS ME" moment. Love love love your channel, lady!
Had I not already been subscribed to your channel, I would have subscribed after seeing this video! Thanks for talking about that curly, natural elephant in the room.
Because each of us is wonderfully, uniquely, individually and exceptionally made...the Creator didn't make a mistake when He made EACH person different. It was good in His sight let us accept His greatness...
My moms have been natural for yrs n cut off her locks over a yr ago n is now rockin a twa thats growing into a bigger fro...Lol! Anywhoo, since I've decided to go natural and have been watchin youtube n going on forums, I've been trying to give her suggestions on waht to do with her hair. She shuts me down every time LOL! and lets me know she's gonna do what works for HER. I say all that to say thanks for the video, I'll use it as a reminder next time i try n tell her what to do wit her hair.Lol
I agree, I find that a family member who has been natural longer than I have, year more forces her opinion what I should do to my hair n what I should do the wrong way. I should be able to have my on natural hair journey with its ups n downs n if you found something that works for you and suggest it ok, but what I don't like is when everytime I am doing my hair I'm frowned upon. So I am trying to develop that comfort n confidence you speak of even though it's been a year, its a working progress.
Wow u really are the realest. I cudnt disagree wiv what ur sayin. It's easy to get swayed but keep ur own independence on how you decide to represent yourself
That was well said. You are a true inspiration to us naturals. I've been watching you since my BC (Aug 2, 2010) and I must say that you helped a lot thru your videos. I had to give ppl the finger at times about how they thought I was prettier with a relaxer. Now a chick got hang time & they like omg your hair is soooo gorgeous. Lol anyway keep up the great work. #ProudOfYou from @BeautifulBrnMe
For some reason when I post a comment on your blog post they do not show up. I tried the other day and again this morning. It blinks and reloads like it took but it never shows up.......hum, just don't know *sigh* I was trying to tell you "Hair is way long....but then again I knew it was. Great job lady!"
Simple as that....! AE u are an inspiration to me. I luv my hair for the first time - over time I have learned how to care for it and it is the healthiest it has ever been. Your videos were the first I watched on YT and I have enjoyed growing with u. I always direct new naturals to your channel. Even though I love products, i really like your approach to using whatever product your
hey AE..why did you cut the lock off..i have actually seen people on the YT take them a loose.. seems like a long process but you could have kept the hair..doesnt look you have had trouble growing it back though...as always, looks very nice and healthy
Dammit u state such a valid point. Going natural was a shock to my family and for them to see my hair now not be fried dyed and lasted to the side is a shock because in at my first goal length which is just past shoulder length and this was three years and I look forward to my continued hhj👍🙆💆👍
Thank You for this video. I've been natural for just a lii over 5 months and it can really be frustrating....Your so right you really do have to listen to YOUR hair because looking at and swearing by all these YT videos on natural haircare, products and textures will have you twisted.
Great video. Especially the tidbit about people rocking African earrings because they're natural! Lol! There's so many sterotypes but if you chose to rock your natutal hair because you want too, then none of that matters!
I totally agree with you sister! I have been natural since 2000. I wore dread for 10 yrs. I took my dreads out in August 2010 and finally finish in Dec. 2010. I wanted a change too. I am starting over growing my natural hair. I love being natural and I like how I look with my natural hair! Keep up the good work sister!
Love your words girly!! I like that because you are natural doesn't mean you have to start wearing certain things. It doesn't mean you give up because someone else's hair style didn't work on you. YOUR hair is your hair. Find who you are, your look, how you want to present yourself to the world. Love it! Take heed ladies!!
I love the ear rings. I was a product junkie tell i found what works for me and my girls. So with that said I got all the product out to see what i can use up and came across an old thing of perm.....WOW i havent had a perm sense maybe 05 IDK?????
I am so glad to have found you on YouTube when I damn, near give up on my transition to natural you say these amazing words to put me back on track.,I love your personality thank you
Speak, speak, I love it, I wear my hair natural as well, I use to relax my hair and it was gorgeous, but I really got tired of going to the salon and waiting for hours.
you always keep it real and i love your real and fake hair you stunt either way. and you really helped me when i first went natural that was 1.5 years ago now i'm super comfy with my real hair and my weave for that 1st year i thought straight hair was the devil now i know its ignorant to think that way and i'm currently rockin one over my natural hair and i laugh when naturals give me the side eye because they don't know the 4c hair i have and love underneath it
I needed to hear this man... I been natural for a year and 3 months and I started to get a little frustrated because I don't know what to do with my hair..
What do you suggest I do to help maintain study growth. I have a nice simply regiment that I maintain and it just seems like my hair is in standstill growth wise. I'm reaching my 3rd year mark and was wondering did you experience this problem?
okay so like clone urself and make little dolls.. i swanny the beans i'd buy one and pull it out each time when doubt comes about. I am not gonna lie u were so not my flava when i first was introduced to yt, but girl u be the truth yeah u rough, raw, but most importantly REAL.... go head girl...
AE great message and I couldn't agree with you more! Everyone's natural hair has its own unique personality (i.e. my hair is not her hair etc.). After we spend time learning / mastering our own hair, we need to lighten up and have some fun with it and stop putting ourselves and our hair in a box!
Women take note. This is a Strong black woman! That other definition that the majority of people (other black women) use to descrive themselves is incorrect! Tell your husband to be that he needs to step up that wedding date cause you might get some flowers and romance looking coming from my direction.
i love this vid

It blinks and reloads like it took but it never shows up.......hum, just don't know *sigh* I was trying to tell you "Hair is way long....but then again I knew it was. Great job lady!"

Simple as that....! AE u are an inspiration to me. I luv my hair for the first time - over time I have learned how to care for it and it is the healthiest it has ever been. Your videos were the first I watched on YT and I have enjoyed growing with u. I always direct new naturals to your channel. Even though I love products, i really like your approach to using whatever product your

Lol! There's so many sterotypes but if you chose to rock your natutal hair because you want too, then none of that matters!
moniquedanielle82 1 month ago
I totally agree with you sister! I have been natural since 2000. I wore dread for 10 yrs. I took my dreads out in August 2010 and finally finish in Dec. 2010. I wanted a change too. I am starting over growing my natural hair. I love being natural and I like how I look with my natural hair! Keep up the good work sister!
johnjoyclyn 1 month ago
Love your words girly!! I like that because you are natural doesn't mean you have to start wearing certain things. It doesn't mean you give up because someone else's hair style didn't work on you. YOUR hair is your hair. Find who you are, your look, how you want to present yourself to the world. Love it! Take heed ladies!!

you always keep it real and i love your real and fake hair you stunt either way. and you really helped me when i first went natural that was 1.5 years ago now i'm super comfy with my real hair and my weave for that 1st year i thought straight hair was the devil now i know its ignorant to think that way and i'm currently rockin one over my natural hair and i laugh when naturals give me the side eye because they don't know the 4c hair i have and love underneath it
